Flippin' burgers since 1163.
Additionally, censoring such discussion only contributes to the myth that moderators here are unfairly targeting big blockers.
As confirmed by Holliday, both sides get deleted because they are off-topic (not because of the content).

When you delete a post, you should state why it has been deleted to the respective poster.

Currently messages are just being deleted, no reason given. If someone talks here about bigger blocks or Segwit disadvantages, and the message is deleted without a reason given, what do you think the poster's opinion about censoring certain subjects will be?

This thread is not a chat-box

But think of the time you could save yourself every day from having to moderate >320,000 posts?  Cheesy

So what? I've had just as many posts, speaking out against big blocks, deleted from this thread. It has nothing to do with big/small blocks and everything to do with being off-topic. Pretty much all of my posts that have received moderation over the years come from the wall observer thread. It's nothing new.
I have tried to keep an equal and impartial moderation stance (regardless of my views) as much as possible. Keep in mind that I'm not the only moderator who can delete posts here (before someone jumps to any conclusion with specific examples).

I'm not complaining. Like I said, I know I'm posting off-topic. I just can't help it sometimes (especially in this thread).

That's just it.  There used to be nothing off topic here.  It was a lounge.  That atmosphere has been killed and now it is a much less enjoyable thread to participate in.  Intelligent discourse has died off and we are left with trolling and people spreading FUD.

I will admit that bitcointalk has grown quite a bit over time and maybe that is most of the problem since you have to keep a much larger herd from stampeding.  But it just sucks that this place is nothing like it was a few years ago.  I really liked that place.

I disagree that bitcoin price exists as an isolated thing.  Sure, TA and chart patterns have an influence, but fundamentals matter as well.  Sentiment regarding different scaling solutions effects general market sentiment.
Did I say it was an isolated thing? I have not. Discussing the technical aspects of certain solutions has zero business being in this section. If you have a problem with the way that sections are set up or with the forum rules, then you are complaining in the wrong place. This thread is not a chat-box, and you can't post whatever you want, wherever you want it. This applies forum-wide.

Additionally, censoring such discussion only contributes to the myth that moderators here are unfairly targeting big blockers.

Forgive me if I misunderstand, but may I ask why discussion of Segwit is not allowed?

Surely it does affect the future price of Bitcoin, which is a topic that I would have thought falls within the bounds of the 'price movement tracking & discussion' contained in the title of this thread.
Read the small update here:
Discussing the price effect of either Segwit/BU/other would be on-topic, although it would likely also spiral into off-topic really quickly.
These posts would remain and hopefully not go sideaways too much.

I can confirm that I also had two posts discussing segwit deleted from this thread on the 25th.  I wasn't even discouraging it, just trying to explain some of the opinions I've heard over on that other forum.  We will never be able to reach consensus if discussion is not allowed.
How about you start actually following the forum rules? You're discussing solutions on a technical basis which has nothing to do with this thread, nor this section (you should try to remain on-topic whenever possible, even when just posting images). I have tried keeping such discussion, regardless of whether positive or negative, and Segwit/BU/whatever out of this thread. At times, this thread feels like kindergarten.

Regarding the poll: I have removed it as it was really outdated. There is no way to add one as a moderator AFAIK (which is unfortunate since OP's account is inactive). I'll talk to the administrators to see whether there are any options to get this rolling.

If you want to discuss Segwit or other technical stuff, then 'Bitcoin Discussion' is more appropriate for this kind of discussion (other sections may be as well, but the thread would be moved to the right one in that case). Also keep in mind that I can not keep reading all of the posts made here, thus please use the report function.

Yet, all of the anti-semitic hate speech is just fine.
I can not keep track of each such post, which is off-topic here (but not against the rules AFAIK). I have also reported at least 1 person for constantly posting off-topic replies in regards to that. However, I can not issue bans for higher ranking members so this is not up to me. You can complain about individuals to certain global moderators (e.g. hilariousandco) and the administrators (Cyrus is your best call).

I just don't understand how the issues surrounding the scalability of bitcoin are off topic, particularly in this lounge-esque thread.

This used to be a fun place to hang out and shoot the breeze with whatever topics were tangentially related to bitcoin and its price.  Because of your (not just you, the entire moderation team seems to be on the same page) opinion that the most important discussion in the community is off topic, many posters have left and those that remain self censor most of the time.

Yet, all of the anti-semitic hate speech is just fine.

If it's "fairly obvious", show us some evidence at least.

That's the catch with censorship.

If big blockers are censored, explain how this guy gets a free pass to start new threads daily and bump old ones on a regular basis.

Seems like Andreas has become a bull, price wise. This is rather rare for him to speak about:

"The Bitcoin valuation is 12 billion today. [...] Just wait and see what is going to happen in the next two years"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZCVQHtD2l4&feature=youtu.be&t=1818

Recommend to watch the whole talk. By the pitch of his voice you can tell he is really passionate about the subject: 'the war on cash'.
"You got to understand these currency wars are not an accident"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZCVQHtD2l4&feature=youtu.be&t=1756

Haven't Andreas always said that price is going up? He's a sharp dude but regarding price exploration, I wouldn't take his words for it lol. He's too far to the left to know too much about economics.

Over the years I've been wondering if Andreas was aware of the monster approaching. He seems to now be aware Smiley

Woot! I'm a hero member now. My sig is slightly smaller at least. Lol

Yes, I've had the odd (entirely innocent) question about bigger blocks deleted. Think I was asking what the odds were for SegWit given current adoption. Not impressed but then, I never was with BCT. It just means there's even less reason to swing by.
I imagine this post will vanish too, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Posts are pretty frequently deleted here compared to in the past. Far more so than on other threads, I know this from personal experience.   Nothing was taboo here once upon a time, but policy seems to have changed somewhat.

It is also true that different threads are moderated differently and always have been.

I've had a grand total of 3 posts deleted on bitcointalk. An interesting data point is that 2 of those were in this thread in the last few weeks and BOTH were on-topic but were in response to posts by adam (his new account). I think I got caught in a cross-fire there. That seems to me to indicate a newish attitude by mod(s?).

Wasn't aware of that. I'll have to look into it myself and find out if I see it like that as well or not. I've remained  on this forum, because, chaotic, ugly and sometimes downright noxious as it may be, it still felt like the right place to me. But if there's a new directive, or even if the effect is such that it resembles one, something like 'moderating towards a greater goal', it would change my perception of the place.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"
This is the second day with no movement on the price.  I wonder if it will keep up this suspense all the way to Christmas!  One thing's for sure, it's eventually going to swing either up or down  Grin
After few days mega dump incoming. ..
Charts don't lie.

The joy of the incoming dump  Cheesy I'm with you, this is as far as our Chinese friends take us, time to bail.

That's a crazy theory, and I don't think that such a theory is supported by the charts, yet.  Maybe you sold (or shorted), and you merely are talking you book, attempting to get others to follow?

I agree with the concept that a dump could occur at any time, but we are really getting decent continuing upwards price pressures at this time.  It seems that we are at least going to get an attempt at $800 in the coming days... currently, we are really close to striking distance of such an attack, and the resistance (at the moment) doesn't even really seem that strong (at $800 at the moment).

There may be more decent resistance in the mid to upper $800s, however.
