Assume for the record that Bitcoin Classic is a coup d'etat, Assume that it is a Trojan Horse for BIP 101...
Isn't that better than having to deal and negotiate with the likes of Peter Todd and LukeJR?

Fork a multi-billion $$$ currency, shatter confidence in crypto, potentially even destroy lives, because some people don't like some other people - who they don't even know and just read about them in forums, reddit, mailing lists etc? I mean, wtf?

We've gone from the pretense of urgency to ...social disagreements as reasons to destroy bitcoin. Yeah, let's fuck peter todd and lukejr by forking it... that will show them (!) - along with a few million users of BTC. lol?

Peter Todd ‏@petertoddbtc @brianchoffman @matthew_d_green viacoin is the same protcol as Bitcoin. (and I was never worked on it they hired me to work on Bitcoin Core)

CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY
As you may know CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY is now live on Viacoin testnet, and will go live on Viacoin mainnet as of block 598,725, which should occur around January 7th, 2015. I’ve also submitted a pull-req to Bitcoin Core to make it possible to test CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY, although currently there is no schedule for when it’ll be adopted.

I dunno, past and present behavior just doesn't pass the smell test. Especially when  said actions have lead us to where we are today. I'm just happy peter todd keeps rubbing salt in the wounds of miner's. I mean, if they can crash bitcoin maybe their viacoin holdings will finally be worth something meaninful.

BIP 102 - hard fork increase to 2M on flag day (currently May 5 2016)

Specification summary:

Increase MAX_BLOCK_SIZE to 2,000,000 bytes at trigger point.
Increase max block sigops by similar factor, preserving size/50 formula.
Trigger: (1) Block time 00:00:00 on flag day, AND (2) 95% of the last 1,000 blocks have signaled support via IsSuperMajority (ISM).

wangchun commented 5 days ago
I agree the 95% rule. But the voting process should be AFTER the merge of this PR. If 95% cannot be met, nothing happens, if we have 95% in the future, as the code is already there, it is not only running on miners' side, but also on countless users and merchants. It saves us lots of time and could absolutely accelerate the fork process. In fact the switch over of BIP 34/66 was exactly like that.

So what have we learned today? The same word can have multiple and rather vastly different meanings depending on your geographic location and historical understanding.

No, "communism" isn't a subjective term. Some people just use it wrong and/or haven't bothered to really find out what it means.

Sorry, I was thinking more along the lines of liberalism, socialism, anarchyism? (is that a word? I don't think so...). Hat tips to the prior discussion involving communism, although I'd probably still try to jump in the ring on stolfi's side as my thinking was similarly misplaced :/

BITCOIN: TOO BIG TO FAIL  Cheesy

Quote
The death of bitcoin has been proclaimed once again. Prominent developer Mike Hearn’s recent comments that the bitcoin experiment was over mark the 89th time the digital currency has been pronounced dead since it first launched in 2009, at least according to one website dedicated to tracking bitcoin obituaries. While it's sad to see a talented programmer like Hearn turn his back on bitcoin, there are still thousands of people working on making the world’s first digital currency a success.
...
All successful projects face problems as they grow, thankfully there are a multitude of brilliant minds working to solve them. In five years, hundreds of millions of users will be sending money on the internet as easily as they send chats, and the only obituaries being written will be those of the traditional banks.

with china suddenly huge priority to release their own crypto-currency asap kinda tells me two things: 1. we are likely going to see crypto used more 2. something is happening in the world economy that has china being in a state of urgency, as though something is going down .................i think it has something to do with the feds rate hike and how the world is imploding from a 0.25% rate hike.. incredible.

Here we have another fat bankster pig at Davos who thinks Bitcoin is a huge fail. Blockchain YES, Bitcoin NO!..untill his Centralized Citycoin is getting slammed and lost the benifits from the real Blockchain. They all want the biggest piece of the pie. Those faces they're pulling when they realize there coin is not working as intended.

Quote
The issue of the blockchain, for example, is particularly problematic because of the controversy that surrounds the virtual currency, bitcoin. “We know that bitcoin itself is a complete failure and shows the number one law of programming and software: that anything that can be programmed can be hacked. So nothing is completely secure,” said Willem Buiter, Citi’s chief economist and former member of the Bank of England’s rate-setting committee. “The cyber boys . . . they believe that this is something that can just work on its own and allow a seamless web of costless transactions across the world. Forget it.”

http://techcrunch.com/2016/01/21/bitfury-ceo-valery-vavilov-on-increasing-the-size-of-bitcoin-blocks/

"Earlier today in Davos, where afternoon temperatures reached a balmy 20 degrees (and evening temps have dropped to limb-numbing f-f-five degrees Fahrenheit), CEO Valery Vavilov of the bitcoin infrastructure provider and transaction processing company BitFury swung by our temporary  studio.

Among those topics addressed with senior editor Matt Burns: What BitFury does exactly, why the venture-backed company is supporting a somewhat controversial proposal within the bitcoin community to increase bitcoin bandwidth from the current one megabyte “block” to two megabytes (Vavilov thinks it will increase the scalability of the bitcoin blockchain), and those cases where bitcoin is likely to become very useful. (For one thing, says Vavilov, think property rights registration.)"

So this is good news for bitcoin? Classic price will go up and core will go down?

communism is a radical type of socialism.

In my understanding of the Communist Manifesto, that is not strictly correct.  Marxist Socialism is a necessary intermediate stage leading to Communism, which is a classless, stateless society.

a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs.

Can we get back to slinging some mud for core and classic? Thinking we might hit 370 again?

Read the Communist Manifesto if you want to know what Communism is.  Below is Wikipedia's definition.  None of these definitions, including the one you cite, invalidates the statement I posted.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism

Quote
In political and social sciences, communism (from Latin communis – common, universal)[1][2] is a social, political, and economic ideology and movement whose ultimate goal is the establishment of the communist society, which is a socioeconomic order structured upon the common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money,[3][4] and the state.[5][6]

There's no such thing as nailing it, unless you are placing your bets accordingly and then completely getting it right, and even then seems pretty risky and really unrealistic if traders were to bet everything in one direction or another on an ongoing basis

So let me get this straight:
English Wikip is wrong,  [ .. ]

Merriam-Webster on Socialism:
"a way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies" http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/socialism on Socialism:
"1. Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
2. The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which the means of production are collectively owned but a completely classless society has not yet been achieved.

Well, only today I learned that in English the word "socialist" means something quite different than what it means in other languages.  So you are right an I am wrong, sorry.   Sad

I must now go back and translate my posts into italian or something else.  Cheesy

As a lame of excuse: besides the French wikipedia that I quoted, in several European countries including Italy and France there used to be both a Communist Party and a Socialist Party, who were often bitter rivals.  While the Communist parties AFAIK never got in power, except as part of broader coalition,  and went extinct after the collapse of the USSR, the Socialists were often in power, and are still strong today -- and yet they never tried to "own the methods of production".

Well, that must be the reason why there has never been a significant Socialist Party in the US.

I was aware that a similar thing happens with the word "liberal", which has quite a different meaning in English (in politics) than it has elsewhere.  So much so that King Bush I was fond of saying "the L-word" to refer to leftist things like social security, whereas elsewhere the terms means generally "tolerant" or "supportive of individual freedoms" -- and here in Brazil it even came to mean what "conservative" means in English (so that Reagan and Thatcher were labeled "neo-liberal" down here).

Quote
USSR mistakenly called itself Socialist,

I did not say that it was mistaken. Even in the non-English sense it is correct, since communism is a radical type of socialism.

looks short term oversold to me. beware of the fourth punch: the second bounce.

did you hear that everyone ?? the four punchmens are raiding.

I don't know that, but it's a real possibility. The spike wasn't as "spikey" as usual, but still very obviously there. I'm just saying be cautious. That's all.

kinda doubt it... we were seeing large drops... we aint seen anything like the "chinese panics" or "chinese miner dumps"...
