How come it seems like the beartrolls are having a field day in here?  Because the recent dump this morning?

Isn't BTC up roughly 25% from end of day Friday?  Weren't we at $230 then?

...

So many questions....

Futures moving up too.

"FDIC Insurance"
"Customer funds stored in Coinbase USD Wallets are held with an FDIC-insured financial institution. "

Yes, I read that.  But read it carefully.  Does it say "Customer USD balances are insured by the FDIC", or does it say something else?

Let's see if we can hold the "magical $266" holds this time. Or is it no longer relevant?

Where did you see "BTC is privately insured"?
The BTC has been privately insured since November 2013 and is old news :
https://exchange.coinbase.com/
https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1662379-how-is-coinbase-insured-
"Coinbase is insured against employee theft and hacking in an amount that exceeds the average value of online bitcoin it holds at any given time."

I.e. only their hot wallet is insured, not the client deposits

Yes usd client deposits are indeed insured but with FDIC- https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1780543

FDIC Insurance
Customer funds stored in Coinbase USD Wallets are held with an FDIC-insured financial institution.

BTC is privately insured , USD is FDIC insured.

Since Coinbase has zero fees, shall we assume that its volume is fake, and exclude its price from indices and charts?   Wink

People purchased based upon the expectation of the great news from coinbase.

The fact that a FDIC insured and regulated exchange in the US with over 1million usable accounts to start has opened with 0 trading fees instead of 1% like before is a big deal. The fact that we will be able to use coinbase to set limit orders and trade at 0-0.25% instead of 1% is a big deal. The fact that no other exchange offers FDIC for usd balances is a big deal.

Agree with the fee part.

Never gave a shit about the gay Coinbase rocket page or their gay news.

I'll probably fuck off with their exchange a little bit though... it's for sure not bad news Tongue

Ever since Bitcoiners started making their own fan art, pone became redundant.  I mean, this came from some Bitcoin fan site:

because mmitech is very smart and everyone else is retarded  Roll Eyes

yes I am smart (or at least not an idiot) and there are so many retarded people here for sure, so your statement is somehow valid and accurate.

Ah, shifting the goal posts. Nice.

How do they work differently? Both have to hop through the same regulatory hoops.

Does kraken currently have over 1 million unique users that can use the exchange?
Does kraken have FDIC insurance on usd balances?
Does Kraken currently have 0 fees?

of course if your girlfriend steals your password and phone to perform 2fa and steal your BTC you won't be covered. May not even be covered under such circumstances with Fiat either.

I imagine that no insurance company would cover that kind of loss, whether for USD or for BTC.

The fuzzy area may be client losses due to faulty programming on their part.

I know we are correcting now, but is there some explanation /theory/news for the last 24h rally?

There's already been a US Based exchange that complies with US Regulations.  On Feb 5th it will have been opened for a Year now!

https://www.atomic-trade.com

Yeah, Kraken too.

Thought Kraken was British and not in the US.
Kraken isn't US. Also that atomic trade looks like altcoin exchange and news stand in one.

THat they are based there doesn't mean they work like coinbase one.
