This is the time to panic buy!! $1435 before sunday, you heard it here first!  Cheesy

Please do. The faster it rises, the harder it falls. Wink

Om nom nom, sweet bear tears!  Cheesy Cheesy

Oh, but as I stated yesterday evening, I am a butthurt bull, not wishing to get slaughtered yet again in another bull trap, like it happened to me on oh too many occasions, so I am trying to exercise those wonderful virtues of patience and restraint, while keeping a close eye on my level of greed.  Tongue

In that case the train station will be flowing, not only with bear tears, but also a stream of butthurt bull tears  Cry

And tears of joy from hoarders and the Bitcoin faithful.

Eyeballing the charts, I would guess that ~300 kBTC were bought at over 900 USD each on MtGox alone.

Some of those buyers may be Believers who will hold the Bitcoins no matter what. But some must be waiting for Traders to raise their bids high enough.  Someone who bought 10 kBTC at 900, for example, may wait until there are 10 kBTC of bids above 900, then dump all at once.

The Traders caught on that trap will of course have to do the same. So the price will probably stay in the 900-1100  range for a long time, sustained not by hope of a bright future but by reluctance to cash at a loss.

What a blunder would that be. First buying at the top and then following that up by selling at breakeven just before the price goes way higher. People contemplating this should probably disallow themselves to sell ANYTHING within a year of buying it (although for non-crypto assets they should probably up that to 2 years).

Just as yesterday, today we're seeing slow and continuous rising starting from early UTC morning. Also just as yesterday, perhaps we'll see a bull run tonight?

Yes we will

If you look at volume in USD it's not anemic at all. It's substantially higher than during the post-silkroad-arrest runup in mid to late October 2013.

I'm not claiming we're in hyperdrive like November last year (this is yet to come), but to say this is some people who happen to have time during the holiday playing with the price at will is quite a stretch.

The volume ist not insubstantial.
So basically what we need to do is take this volume chart (all currencies, all exchanges): http://data.bitcoinity.org/#caaadaehaa

And convert that to a composite "volume in currency" that uses a weighted average of all the currency pairs.

And then we'd get an accurate picture of volume measured in fiat.

Or as an good-enough approximation you just use the USD exchange rate as a multiplier.

usually bears complain about low volume at this point.

I don't think you are a 'bear' or a 'bull' to point out the volume driving this is very low, nay anaemic ...essentially the market is still in holiday mode.

I had the impression there was a lot more media attention generally. And news searches for "bitcoin" are double what they were last time:

If you filter for a shorter time scale, it becomes clear that it's nowhere near the late nov/early dec bubble.

Currently, bitcoin has the same levels of media attention as when it was in the 300s. Mostly from econ/spec sources who are talking about 2014 picks. In a few days it might be even substantially less.

oooo, I assumed they were referring to the April bubble.

Edit: And that is still not "1/10th". It could also be considered positive if the current interest is from economics and investment circles.
