There is a guy called Loaded who owns 200k coins?  Shocked Shocked

Loaded doesn't own them all but he owns at least the 40,000 at this address afaik: https://blockchain.info/address/14j6jLececs66ZQ8ew6vTFNiEn2NupacWJ

A lot are secured and managed by him on behalf of others

Pfft, only 40,000 coins... Thought for a moment he was a heavyweight.  Cheesy

What if there was never any volume to begin with, and it was all fake volume in China, followed by a bunch of volume in the west consisting of bots and traders following btcchina like a zombie, and the actual amount that has entered the market by VCs and new blood is maybe $100M or $200M.

Would it be bad taste to give someone bitcoin as an xmas gift while it's crashing?

not if they understand the possible future value.
These would be people not already familiar with bitcoin.
hmm well at the least you're helping them learn and also enter and emerging revolutionary market where In my opinion they will be more likely to see a larger rise in value in the next year. Before next Christmas they'll be like this was the best gift ever lol.. as it could in theory keeping giving as in appreciates.
