I take some responsibility for this tack, with my necktie quip.  Seriously, it's not worth the karma burn.

You lead and I'll watch you walk away.

Mining is currently very profitable . . .

I beg to differ

60GH/s cost me 100BTC, I will never, ever, make that back

Wow, you spent $70,000 at current price for 60 GH/s? That sucks ass!

yes, yes it does

at the time BTC were $13, of course at the time few knew that we would be waiting 14 months for hardware

I hope Josh gets gang raped in prison.

that is a pleasant thought, we could send him some B embossed soap

Yeah, that's a nice touch but I was thinking more along the lines of bribing a guard to pass out a couple of cartons of cigarettes to the first prisoner that shanks him. After the gang rape of course.

Yeah, I'm dumping my 73k coins this week too.  Probably at market.

I'm starting dumping right now, by small chunks (~100-300 coins/chunk).

You won't get anywhere by dumping 300 Doges at the time  Grin

Ah, manipulation, the moral puzzle.  Personally, I think manipulators should be hunted down and garrotted, perhaps with a columbian necktie.  Why so harsh?  Because they are oppressors of the poor widowed orphans, shivering in the cold, trying to daytrade some bitcoins fair and square to buy their gruel.

Poor kid. He still didn't found out that even Jaroslaw is not interested with his "I'll dump 10k from my 100 wallet" anymore, let alone someone who is trying to copy him and his alter ego Walsoraj Cheesy

The only way to get "work" from heat, is to transfer it from something to something else; if everything inside the house is at an equilibrium you can't extract work from heat, unless you let the heat leave the house (or otherwise lower the average temperature of the whole house). The only purpose insulation could have would be to limit where you're loosing heat.

Limit but not stop. All the joules of energy from the heat difference will transfer eventually, there's no such thing as a perfect insulator and there's a distinct barrier between the hot and cold areas so energy can be recovered between the two sides as it inevitably passes through.
But to get more energy, you need to let more heat out; you would need a hole in the insulation essentially. If you make it harder for the heat to go out, you'll be capturing less energy.

It's sorta analog to placing a valve before your waterwheel; if you hold the water back the wheel won't be spinning as fast.

I too paid an exhorbitant amount of BTC for a 60GH/sec miner.  However, when it was obviously a net loser, even on a USD basis, I immediately flipped it for a profit.  60GH/sec smells like BFL to me, which is of course where we both went wrong:  Taking a flyer on thieves.  But in general, when you are not being conned, mining is profitable.  Even the block erupters are paying for themselves these days, and almost nobody bought those thinking they would ever be profitable.  Why, given the cost of the BTC then and now, in USD terms that 100BTC would be profitable now, would it not?
It had to be a bitforce single right?

I know that those who spent bitcoin will not realize a bitcoin profit.   And I myself would have realized incredibly more profit had I purchased bitcoin rather than the ASICs.   Of course I would have probably long ago sold the bitcoin, if I had them instead, so really hard to calculate what could have been.    I feel for you . . .

You can't have it both ways, either it is hard for the heat to leave the house, or it is easy. The more you keep the heat inside, the less energy you can get from it going outside and vice-versa.

As far as I know that's the point of insulation Tongue A house would need over a meter of insulation to stay warm just from body heat at 0 deg C outdoor. Heat will always find its way out so if its going to transfer anyway then its worth trying to recover and re-use as much as possible, that's what sterling engines do but 'sterling' is misleading as it only describes a particular type of heat recovery system. Heat recovery is simple enough but it doesn't get used enough, it's used in some areas like high efficiency power plants but will get more common as energy prices go up.

The only way to get "work" from heat, is to transfer it from something to something else; if everything inside the house is at an equilibrium you can't extract work from heat, unless you let the heat leave the house (or otherwise lower the average temperature of the whole house).
