My best friend in the 3rd grade got the strap 12 times on each hand (6 on the front, 6 on the back) for daydreaming during an arithmetic test. After that he limited his ADHD to after school.
Weird: I got my head rammed into a blackboard repeatedly in third grade because I was a "feather head" and thus it wouldn't hurt.

I am at retirement age and in my youth I am sure people suffered from the same ailments as people do today.
Its just that today everyone seems to need a label for a particular behaviour as if by having one seems to justify said behaviour.

Also retail can be stronger than we all think. Look at Gamestop, its at 150 right now, never did go back down.
