I fix broken miners. And make holes in teeth :-)
A real life story in Houston (secondhand, but reliable): a guy (in his mid thirties) was paranoid re CV and was sitting at home for two months straight (bought lots of groceries beforehand), ordered a keyboard on the Amazon, keyboard did not work to his satisfaction, he went to UPS to return it, forgot to wear mask, returned the item to the store clerk (who was also not wearing the mask). Boom, he became sick in four days and it was a really bad CV to the point that he was updating his will.
Moral of the story: despite being careful, you never know if this thing is gonna get you or not. Almost like a lottery in reverse.
Sounds right. Technically speaking every time you interact with the world you roll a saving throw against disease. And while with a good P100 mask and gloves you only need to roll a 1 or better on a D100, If you roll too many times eventually it will come up snake eyes....

My main reason I say "fuck you" to the government's assertion that everything is "safe".

Man who stares at charts (and stars, too...)

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. No. Sweden has an extremely large number of people who live by themselves. Italy has an extremely large # of people who live with many family members.

I'm sorry, science doesn't work like this. You take the statistics at face value to begin with and then if there's some extreme mitigating circumstance then maybe you can say that that's the rule rather than the exception. The statistics in this case are very clear - that the lockdowns countries are all top of the league when it comes to relative mortality (i.e. mortality corrected for population).

See, i'm in a "lockdown country", but the government locked down early. So we're on the low deaths/100k side of the scale.
You are argumenting science, but at the same time you bring in a simple correlation as a causality.
Sorry, but this doesn't really work out.
It's a bit naive to say science works through isolated metrics, which just isn't true. It's more complicated than that (i was also pointing that out in my first reply).

So, what's the real scope of this discussion then?

A well known dude (@Davinci) is selling the house to buy bitcoin with proceeds (surprisingly, wifey is on board, apparently).
https://twitter.com/Davincij15/status/1260243620956954624

Reactions? A timely move or not? To me, maybe too much risk inasmuch as having a shelter has more meaning than just an investment. In fact, I never thought about the house as an investment, but more like as a place to live without getting bothered by a greedy landlord.

Never bet the house.  Because if you lose, then you don’t have a house.

Sold my house. Put all the money from the sale toward BTC at around $660.

Bet the house.

Sold my stock and 401k. Put all the money toward BTC @ ~$700 cost average.

Bought the house (free and clear). Still buying BTC, gold, and silver.

10/10 would do all over again.

You guys are playas, but at least you didn't go 50-100X on margin.
I am not touching 401K, well, except bought a bit of GBTC, which does not really count.
However, I almost liquidated a smaller brokerage account to buy in (DCAing) earlier.
Now, I only buy in small chunks (infrequently) when I have extra cash.
Side-note: I so love the "money printer go brrr" meme, it is pure genius, especially the animated one.

Remember: every second that does by, money printer goes brrr, and that (worthless) paper currency in your wallet or bank gets more and more worthless. You're entire net worth shrinks every second you are in currency only.

Such a strange time for him to do this.  He's been in the Bitcoin space since 2011 yet wants to sell the house now?  He was also talking about DCA years ago... it's hard to believe he needs to do this.  I bet my Lambo (seen here - https://youtu.be/vYHXdKvMHOc) that he doesn't sell the house.

what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?
you...youuuuuu...
No hydrogen peroxide OR bleach OR isopropyl alcohol in any grocery store or pharmacy around here (and wasn't for the last two months).
Every time I go to pharmacy I can barely contain myself from yelling at the staff about this.
WTFF (that would be f--ie f--k)

had 7% hydrogen peroxide lying around in 5 gallon containers for my water treatment system as my well water is crap. but you should be able to get it online in smaller amounts.

Two separate studies pointing to similar conclusion. Virus was well-adapted to humans and genetically stable at time of first known cases.

(tl;dr: highly unlikely it jumped species in a wet market, likely bred in human cell cultures in a lab)

You're never too old to think young.
By selling his house, he is betting it.

He will be overinvested and weak hands.

Sounds to me like he was overinvested in real estate.

If he had a mortgage, he's probably better off.

One of the smartest things I did was to get out from under the burden of home ownership. Now the only land I own is in Mexico and is 100% mortgage-free and tax-free. I rent in Toronto for a fraction of what it would cost to own my own home and with no responsibilities other than paying my rent on time.

People are actually spritzing everything they buy? That's not gonna do much unless we get to a 80% infection rate, at which point you will have to keep living like that to avoid random infection.

My dad is terrified of this virus, but we don't go that far. He is living alone and we avoid direct physical contact and touching the same things and that's it.

If it actually spreads 3 times easier than the flu then everyone is going to get it. Avoiding it completely is not realistic or practical, the goal should be to limit the viral load when you do get it so you get over it that much easier.

The problem is that most cases don't show symptoms. So we will need reliable testing on a massive scale, or eventually just take the chance that getting back to a normal life won't kill us. And given how emotional people are nowadays, that's gonna be a problem.

how do you "forget" to wear your mask?

fuck, we be bleaching every goddamned item that enters the house

pain in the fucking ass

yup. except using hydrogen peroxide here. got carried away with the strength when mixing it down from 7% solution. ouch. now i know why you can use it for rocket fuel. well, sorta. but now i have much healthier respect for it.

''Vincit qui se vincit''
That bloke's made some perfect calls in the past and I think he's been around since the single figure days. So I dunno why he needs to get house money involved. He's barking to do that.

Maybe there is a difference between making a "call" and really doing the trade?

Like a sad story of Murad Mahmudov who made some high value bitcoin calls and talked a lot about it being exponentially higher in the future, but then his fund went belly up because they were leveraged, bitcoin dropped from 8-10K to 3.8K and Bitmex crashed, so they were not able to re-buy low.

Im selling my kids and investing it all in bitcoin.

I promise to buy them back if I get rich.

Very good and unique idea because I was also thinking about something serious but have no big heart like you. Grin Cheesy Shocked

I am glad that nobody (at least here) is talking about selling their kidney...that would have been dreadful.
That is quiet a brilliant idea, thank you for your brilliant mind, now all bitcoiners will use their children collaterals.
