I suspect we’d be at around $10,000 if everything was normal.

Maybe try The Creature from Jekyll Island? I have not read it (yet) but see it recommended enough to give it a shot.

Also, for something practical on how to make money for himself, The Richest Man in Babylon. Also on youtube in audiobook format.
