While a VIX index for Bitcoin is intellectually interesting, I’m not touching that with a 10 foot pole

I ran into one of my nocoiner friends that I mentioned BTC to some 5 years ago and he never invested.
He still dislikes BTC primarily for its volatility.
I simply said to him would he prefer a highly volatile product over the short term increasing in value over the long term against a low volatile FIAT which was decreasing in value over the long term?

He didn't have an answer and just humphhed and continued to mutter that he will never invested?

I guess that is the definition of Butt hurt.

Bitcoin’s newest trading product offers direct exposure to its volatility, and BlockTower Capital is the first to dive in

Quote
Bitcoin’s volatility has long been thought of as one of the major factors that keep big money managers from investing, but a new esoteric financial product could help traders hedge against the cryptocurrency’s price swings.

Hong Kong-based trading firm GSR revealed to The Block that the first trade of its bitcoin variance swap has been executed with cryptocurrency hedge fund BlockTower Capital — the latest development in the booming derivatives market for digital currencies.

You hold you win.  simple

What do you win ? Serious question. I've nothing against hodlers, but if you're a pure hodler, then the price shouldn't matter to you, should it ? 1000$ more, 1000$ less, what difference does it make ?

pretty much

That reminds me of all those Windows 7 parties I threw back in the day. Truly amazing times.

Windows 7 was the death of computing.  Shifting from single CPU cores and closer to the metal systems to bloated abstraction layers and APIs.  In other words, everything about things from that period forward were focused on SERVER and multi-tasking performance (things like apache web servers) at the expense of workstation performance (things like video games and end user latency).

And now you have people going even more overboard in that path pretending that it's valid to create video games the same way CG movies are done - in post processing render layers.  The purpose of a video game is it's supposed to be real-time.  I'm surrounded by idiots.  So, Windows XP is still technically the best gaming OS for things like latency.  Whether it's turd-like Linux distros even more focused on multi-tasking than Windows is, or Windows itself, none of these OS's after Windows XP should even exist for real-time or gaming performance, only for office work and servers.

Since this thread is read by half the spooks in the world, I would like everyone to welcome aboard Anne Neuberger from the evil cult of Judaism to be the NSA's cybersecurity director.  Since allowing a woman to be in charge of anything related to computers or warfare is completely asinine, we can rest assured the leader of the free world - god emperor Putin - will be most happy with this choice.

EDIT: Wallobservers, i recognise ongoing reduction of bitcoin spam in my mailboxes. Not a good sign for 2019, i guess.

what do you mean with "bitcoin spam".
Not good if Bitcoin can be used for spams.

I think he's referring to the spam/scam emails, rebel.
Bitcoin is simply a method of transaction.

I know. It is a question of what he means. I want to know what he means.

I'm not really sure what you're expecting;
are you familiar with basic spam/scam emails?

That is best explained by some example spam mail titles:

"today i made $3.435 by using THIS simple website!"
"educate yourself in bitcoin trading and get rich quick!"
"do you want to let the future to be happening without you?"
"Bitcoin Satoshis Vision - the REAL BITCOIN"

hmmm, wait a sec...

JJG, you are always out of subject. bots can't understand the meaning.

As if I anyone here is going to give much if any credence to your categorization of which posts are "in subject"....  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Get a grip, rebal15

a software: what ever you call it.

software is only one type of handling the (mathematical) algorithm in a convenient, automated way. So in fact "software" is only your name for it.
What it is, i bet you know: a blockchain with a simple, specific usecase. The chain (bitcoin) itself is just "output", coming from the algorithm (used by software).
"Software" is clearly incorrect. Looking at complex things the simple way doesn't make them simple at all.
Ok, thank you.
Can Bitcoin be considered as an input to an algorithm (used by software).

Only in the same sense as you yourself can be considered as a specific sequence of cytoseine, guanine, adenine, and thymine, as an input to ribosomes.

jbreher is making some decent senses.     Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Thanks for that insight, picnic bear.  Wink

Good night JJG if you are going to sleep.

Once you get the grip on computing, that it's just a representation, or "realisation" of mathematical/logical processes, you will see things more clear.
These end users nowadays... The industry needed them to grow, but i remember better times, when computing was a thing you really needed to wrap your head around. No mouse, no touchscreens, -pads, whatever and 56k modem speed, at best  Cool
