I can't help but feel we're approaching a 'flash crash' due to the $200 milestone price point.

From what I've read these can happen around the price point minus 6%

There's definitely some resistance to the price increasing right now but I guess that's to be expected as the asks are nowhere to be seen near the current price ($181.5) - it looks like nobody's selling much at all.

The bids are pretty thin on the ground as well with less than 1000 BTC per $ right down to $160.

Hmmm...now here's a bubble that doesn't look to be crashing anytime soon.  Wink

Sheesh, put that shit on a log chart!

I know right?  Looking at this on a lineair scale is so uninformative...

this graph should be used for all retorts in the media when they talk about the coming bitcoin 'bubble' burst.  yeah, supernova baby!

That is some scary shit right there. The US is pretty much already bankrupt. Thing is, if BTC is worth $100,000 and the dollar is worth nothing then...are we all poor again?

Your government knows how to solve this problem:
1.Print 20 trillion more greenbacks.
2. Pay back the debt with them.
3. Mission accomplished.

I suggest Armory.
One "live" computer with armory, with "watching-only" wallets.
Another small computer completely offline, doesn't even need the blockchain. Has the same wallets, but including the privkeys.
Create a tx, move it to your offline computer via usb-key, it signs, you send the tx on your online computer.

This, with several independent wallets (like one small wallet which has the funds directly on the online computer too) is pretty secure.

Ente

I'm note sure I understand exactly how this works and I've never user Armory before but I'll do some testing with it.

So, have you guys heard of these bitcoin things? I heard they might be worth 200 some day.

I had a dream last night that the value of Bitcoin dropped to 0, scary.

Then I woke up, looked at my firefox ticker and chilled by playing this song one more time

Haha I dreamt quite the opposite - that I witnessed the Bitcoin singularity, digits multiplying before my eyes before all the exchanges crashed.

Woke up and never did find out if that meant I was rich or penniless so it may have been the same dream :p

If you must "read up".. remove wallet from computer immediately!!  Cheesy

I guess everything is relative. For me, it was mostly about starting to use a safe VPN (that accepts bitcoins). I think I had most bases covered before that.

Checklist:

1. Filesystem encryption.
2. Password management.
3. Individually encrypted wallets.
4. Local firewall.
5. Cron virus scan.
6. Sane file permissions.
7. VPN (with failsafe switch).

8. Encrypted wallets stored on several locations.

Todo:

1. Paper backup in safe.

The thing I'm concerned about is keyloggers.

My password is very long and secure and I have it completely memorised, I only use it for things like Bitcoin and it's never been written down.

Due to the price of these coins I'm going to get a separate computer (probably a cheap netbook) to store my Bitcoin client on.

I'll use it only for doing transfers, nothing else.

Of course I have my wallets backed up in various places as well.

And here's this mornings cry baby everyone!
Hopefully the tears will truly begin when they must buy back at a much higher price, haha.

They always do.  It really is one of life's great mysteries as to why they keep trying to do this.  It freakin' hasn't worked the first thousand times, it ain't going to work this time.  Oh well. If they were smarter then they wouldn't be bears in the first place.

I like it when people describe nuclear blast proof solutions, ending with the humble remark, "pretty secure".

I only use it for things like Bitcoin and it's never been written down.

I hope that you mean you have various passwords for different services (if you are talking about a password for online bitcoin things).

Never use the same password on any website that you do to access your wallet! (Should go without saying, I know. But just in case!)
