We now will return you to your regularly scheduled rally.   Grin

Bids are also approaching the volume they were at before everything went pear shaped.

Can someone cut-n-paste the Gox statement?  I'm in China for now and FB is blocked.

It's copied verbatim at http://www.bitcoinrumors.com/2013/04/04/mtgox-announcement-on-ddos-attack/

They seriously need that PR person

That's not only what they do not need. That's exactly the opposite of what they need.

they need an animal to slander them?

There is a strange sound in the engine of my car.  I need to buy a louder audio system.

I am just hoping Gox is scaling up their hardware & software to handle the incoming load. The worst possible thing to happen right now would be for their platform to crash. It happened to Myspace, Facebook and many other sites from early rapid adoption. Anyone know what their back end is written in? Hopefully it is C++ or Java and not PHP.

PHP can do ANYTHING!

I love PHP, I use it every day. But I would never use it for a world class trading platform.

Maybe on the front end.

The problem with PHP is exactly "it can do anything"(also literally).

They're doing their best.  With the massive influx of new accounts and the skyrocketing of the price within a relatively very short period of time (compounded with attack issues) it's realistic that they would have been a little unprepared.

It's not just recently though.  Every big move has caused their trading engine to lag, way before the price started to take off in the last couple of months.

There are a lot of issues they haven't addressed, like the utterly inadequate trading engine they are using. What Gox must keep in mind is"With greater power comes greater responsibilities", they choose to be in this position, they are now the "face" of bitcoin trading, then they have to keep up.

Actually, they addressed it. This is what they've said:
Does this mean that we are giving up fighting lag? Hell, no. We are working on it by creating a new trade engine that will solve many problems, but it’s not a magic bullet.

Sorry, I forgot about that, but I don't think they have fully realized the seriousness of the problem on their part, although I still believe them to be the most reliable.
