Would it be better if the Wall Observer thread is locked and a new one is opened ? Since the number of posts in it are more than usual we can create a new one Wall Observer 2020 starting next year and then moving forward make a new one each year.

da fuck have I just read?!?

Its seems almost everyone has hated my idea of a new thread for WO

It annoys me as arguing with people isn't as easy when you want to go back and read the context of a post, only to have to spend too much time searching for said post.

I think Foxpup's answer makes the most sense. Posts get deleted from it all the time relative to others, as it is of course the biggest thread on the forum. It is a test of the limits of SMF, and a testament to the glory of Bitcoin.

Long live the WO thread. Can't stop, won't stop.

Theymos hasn't been online. That makes me wonder if there's an automated recount that just takes a while because the topic has a gazillion pages.

There is a "periodic global recount" and guess this is what happened here with the WO thread.
Had some issues with my post count a while back and Theymos said to wait for the recount. So... auto-fixed tyvm Smiley)

For a while now, the Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion thread links posts to the wrong page.
For example: if you click this post made by fillippone it doesn't show the post, but takes you to the next page.
I noticed this before when I wanted to see a merited post. Does it need a recount or something to fix this?

Indeed very very annoying, I thought it was something with my new Iphone Roll Eyes

Would be great if it gets fixed

It might just be me but this doesn't really make sense? Your message for example has this link: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.52981631

Do you mean it has to update with the right number of posts in each page? Since there are two tables in the database (one for posts and one for merits).
No, it's nothing to do with the merits; it's to do with how the database maps message IDs to thread pages. My message, for example, is on page 1 of this thread, and so the link takes you to page 1 of this thread. No problems there. However, if that message were on page 2, the link would take you to page 2, and (I suspect) would continue to do so even if deletion of earlier posts causes the message to drop back to page 1.

I don't know the details of how SMF 1 actually maps messages to threads, but it's probably a total mess.

I'm pretty sure this happens when one or more earlier posts are deleted, causing later posts to appear on the page previous to the page they originally appeared on, the latter being where the link continues pointing to until the database is properly updated.

I'd hate to see the size of this forum's database...

On a sidenote, I hope the new forum software can better deal with 25k pages and 500k replies, I doubt smf was built for it.

Did you just clear your browser cash?
I don't think it has to do with browser cache, as I've seen it on different links (from Merit to Maggiordome's PMs).

Totally off-topic: "browser cash" sounds almost as cool as "magical internet money"!

I've noticed it as well, but to the 10th anniversary art contest thread.  I think it may be happening to the bigger threads.

This has been happening recently to my browser with all threads, with ordinary links like Loyce's there (not with topicseen links like from watchlist).
It is an equal-opportunities bug.
