Sketchy. The ETF is 100% sure to be disapproved.

why? only because a bunch of incompetent don't know what a malicious email is and click on "ifyouclickhereistealyourbitcoin.com", if they are base their decision on this

they don't have a clue what bitcoin is about, which is not about criminal activity and don't deserve to approve it

anyway these balance are very low amount, i doubt someone like the ETF care about this thing
Why no one is crying how much fiat money is stolen everyday from banks using the same old phishing method:
Fake banking websites designed by phishers, links are usually distributed via email spam as well.

Oh, Bitcoin will always be the bad guy in this story. You have a highly disruptive technology that threatens the Fiat financial systems of the world.

The villain in this story will never be the people behind these attacks, but rather the method they are using and the targets they used. Is this

not strange timing for them to use Bitcoin as a payment method... when Bitcoin has reached these record high prices.  Huh

Maybe people will finally research a little bit about OS other than microsoft bluescreen.

There is always something good out of the bad sittuation. People need to make more care into their bitcoin wallett security, so that there will be less stories that someone lost their coins.

There is a need of a linux bitcoin users not affected memes Tongue.
What does this have to do with the current situation? It has nothing to do with Bitcoin wallet security, it's about randsomware...
Most victims of this attack haven't even heard about Bitcoin.

Besides, some linux distro's were also mentioned in the leaked NSA/CIA exploits, do you shouldn't think that Linux users are completely immune.

This kind of hacking need to be stop as soon as possible because if this kind of hack will not be stopped then it will damage more computers and invade more countries and also it will be a huge impact for our bitcoin because it can get bitcoins then they can dump it to the market which can cause a loss for us.

I wonder why the ransom was not requested in DASH?

Basically, because no one gives a fuck about Dash

I'm absolutely sure that the total majority of the MakeMeCry victims have never heard about Dash before (and won't hear thereafter), so it might not make a lot of sense to request payments in this coin. On the other hand, Bitcoin is pretty well known, and it is as easy to buy it as well as transact with it (e.g. via web wallets). Apart from that, the hackers can't be 100% sure that with Dash its blockchain (or what they use for the blockchain) wouldn't be rolled back once the victims are done with payments. This is an unlikely event with Bitcoin

Hmm I would have assumed that their respective IT departments or Technicians would
be making the payments and they would certainly know about Crypto.

I'm not sure I understand the "rolled Back" bit" sorry  Huh

For such a widespread attack I'm really surprised they earned so little. When the news first hit I thought they were going to earn in the millions of dollars.

Obviously its still a lot of money but it could have been way worse, and hopefully the relatively low rewards for such sophisticated attacks will limit the amount of people doing this again in future.

From what I am hearing on various news bulletins on radio here
is that now they know this form of virus attack works it may become more frequent.

Whatever happened is not good for the bitcoin community. Bitcoin will now be seen as a crime for most of the enforcement agencies and if they start cracking down the innocent bitcoin users, then we are doomed. Most of us try to earn bitcoin legally and not by any other means here. But these hackers have made a bad name for bitcoin now.

The attack is widespread and almost 72 countries effected. This way the respective government will think twice before legalizing bitcoin now. Whatever the good reputation earned by bitcoin, is all gone now and more governments will now be aware about bitcoin circulation in their country. Not good for us!
Bitcoin has been used in many criminal activities long time ago before this issue happened like drug dealers, terorism etc and people already know it that it's clearly not bitcoin's fault but the person it's just like cash. On the other hand the price is still stable as you can see the price at this point it's about 1750 dollars it means there is no panic selling are caused by WannaCry ransomware attack. Besides that bitcoin become more popullar even though in bad way but i trully believe people can see advantage of the bitcoin, those who didn't know it before finally knew it . Well seems like they the hackers giving free promotion for the bitcoin itself. For your information Australia will start accepting bitcoin as a currency from July 1st.

I agree with avikz, I think it gives "bitcoin" a bad name especially with
people who dont understand how it works. When I heard that the ransom
was t be paid in Bitcoin I thought "FFS this is not good" especially at a time
where it is getting good press in Japan and Australia.

I think bitcoin could be seen as something underground and linked to criminal
activity, i know, i know - just like FIAT

I wonder why the ransom was not requested in DASH?

I am wondering if this ransomware virus is going to hit a lot of ordinary people or did they mainly attack organizations, schools and government offices? How did this virus come about and what do you download to get this ugly sh*t? I hope none of us here contract it.

Even though the hacking part isn't good but this is surely making more people of bitcoin as many people who got hacked are not aware of bitcoin and i also saw a local newspaper posting an article about this and in that article they are explaining it's readers what bitcoin is and why the hackers are asking payments through bitcoin.

It is quite worrying that an organisation like the NHS has not paid attention especially when only recently it was all over the place that a cache of malicious software and numerous viruses were stolen from the US,

I just hope the banks and other major institutions are paying attention now.  I don't think this will have a negative impact on bitcoin, I am surprised that the mention of bitcoin has o ly been a sidenote in the articles I have read, I thought it would be more of a headline as it usually is

Otherwise, it would be a free advertising for Bitcoin, as I see it

Don't shoot Bitcoin!

If they are going to crack down on Bitcoin users, why don't they first crack down on US dollar or Euro users since the dollar and euro are used a lot greater for a lot wider range of crimes (especially as cash)? It kinda looks it is more about you willing to see Bitcoin as a crime, not so much about law-enforcement agencies. The very fact that hackers chose Bitcoin proves its validity and usefulness in real life

Pffff why is that. Bitcoin is money, it's like blaming USD/GBP because drugs exist.

Let us try not to over react on this issue. Bitcoin is still in a very good standing and would remain to do so because there's just so much more good things happening compared to this latest news on hacking. Kidnap for ransom groups demanding for huge amounts of dollars don't affect the dollar value, so why should this have so much effect on bitcoin? Even if they are able to get over 10 bitcoin, that is not a big amount compared to what other criminal activities are being committed using fiat.

This claim just won't hold water

First, a few bitcoins (which is what the hackers got so far) won't affect the price in any meaningful way, and if you doubt that, you may want to visit Bitfinex and see for yourself. Further, you implicitly assume that the hackers are never going to cash out, which is a very, very far-stretched assumption. As to me, they are going to cash out as fast as possible since it just makes no sense to keep the bitcoins which are of no particular use to them. Therefore, these bitcoins aren't going to change anything in respect to Bitcoin prices

It's not a reasonable claim at all I totally agree. Even the last time some "hacker" stole funds either BTC or ETH the two most recent ones I remember, price dropped for what, maybe a day or a few days? And that was panic sell. If all the fiat in the world were in a few big banks and people suddenly panicked, same concerns for fiat.

Like when suddenly a whole lot of investors went out of Asia in 1997, all the Asian currencies dropped. But they recovered.

So not a good claim, because it's not true and if it's true, then same issue for fiat.

beware of your keys.
they still want it more and might not give the decryption key even you have paid for it, beware. because all of the ransomware's address to pay the fund is different, you are hard to make a fake transaction to it and get back the key, such as double spending. i know that bitcoin could be abused by criminal, but once this incident is addressed, the policy towards bitcoin is revised.

Got that trash on my PC yesterday. I just laughed, did a full format and a quick reinstall of Windows. I strive to keep my PC as empty and free of important stuff as possible, and this finally paid off! I gotta say I'm kinda proud. Shame about my collection of porn though Sad

how did you get it? what you installed recently? so we can watch out better against this shit

In my country, two big hospitals have this virus, it's very disturbing. There is a suggestion that tomorrow does not directly turn on the PC, this is a recommendation from the government. The positive impact is that some people are curious about the BTC, but the negative impact of BTC impresses the currency used for crime. Hopefully, does not endanger the current BTC price.

This virus focuses on the server because most are still using windows 8 and below version, ordinary workers are accustomed to receive email every day so do not accidentally get this virus. It's disastrous and hard to decrypt manually if it's already infected. Hopefully the antivirus do their best in the next few days.

still not an excuse for those windows 8 user to not have a backup for sensible data like they have at their job, the first to do when you have something important is always a backup

Yeah it such a shame that people need to do bad things to get bitcoin, it sure going to affect bitcoin and there is a possibility that the government is going to banned bitcoin and this incident give a negative reputation to bitcoin, this is one of the reason people rejected to used bitcoin, it is going to affected all of the user that earned bitcoin legally
