The X.com name is still being used to create fake airdrops, and scammers are using Twitter to spread those websites. Twitter accounts that are being used to promote fake airdrops also show a high number of followers, although those followers are more likely to be fake, but those Twitter accounts may seem credible to crypto users. It is impossible to guess how many more fake websites they will create using this x.com trend!

If it's a scam it'll be posted about in this community. Users report scams to warn ppl when they're told about it so that's a positive. The scammers use Telegram, phishing sites, email so it wouldn't be unimaginable for small groups getting trapped to buy scam tokens. If innocent minds continue buying scam tokens each time they'll receive emails the scammers won't stop trying.

Scammers aren't going to let opportunities pass. When they're using marketing techniques they'll attract negative attention from scammers who'll try their luck. They'll plot to scam as many ppl as possible. If it isn't X.com it'll be the next famous business making waves.
Yeah, and they are really good at it, finding those news that are hype like Twitter->X. And then this criminals jump on the opportunity to create a fake website just like what we have seen in the past.
And it's good that this community is still very active in catching this scammers and letting everyone knows and we can only hope that no one will fall for this trick because it's going to be very difficult to bounce back after you fall for it. So let everyone knows that they have been warn.

Scammers know that, the name of Elon musk has a lot of influence in the crypto market and if they create a fake project using the name of Elon's project, the scammers can take advantage of it, so such fake websites are coming to the market. I've seen scammers using NewsTrend, and scamming crypto users. So it is expected that scammers will come up with more fake crypto websites using this X.com name.

It was expected that scammers would try to take advantage of the fact that Twitter is rebranding into X. It worked well in the past with all those fake Elon Musk crypto giveaways. I am sure these fake X token scams will be successful also. Greed is greater than logic, and unknowledgeable plebs will get hooked to this like crazy thinking Elon is throwing away money.

Smart investors do not invest in such fake projects, they do maximum research about the project before investing. Most of the people who invest in these fake projects are newbies, so it is easy for scammers to brainwash them...

All these newcomers have a great desire to earn a lot of money quickly, without making any effort for this. And given the fact that they have no knowledge of how the cryptocurrency market works and due to which it is possible to legally earn a profit, they succumb to the dubious promises of scammers and as a result part with money.

Investors are supposed to be smart persons and usually do their own research before investing in any new project.
If Elon is to launch his own token then the first logical thing any smart investor would do is to check Elon's official account to verify the information.

And if Elon wants to launch a project, then it would be the biggest hot news in the market, then such fake Twitter accounts would disappear because of that news.

Farewell, Leo. You will be missed!
just want to add that here are some more accounts that posted the same project.
https://twitter.com/XTokenBEP
https://twitter.com/X_TokenBSC
The first one has already been deleted. The other one is still alive, but has less than 500 followers and is not a big threat yet. It should still be deleted though for the safety of everyone involved.

it's either there are not enough reports being made against the scam account to warrant an action or they probably just don't care.
Don't forget that Elon fired many people, and Twitter has less staff now than what they had in the past. It's obvious they will be struggling on all fronts because of that.

If its a post it can be taken down or they will take action on it, but if its a paid ad they are not going to do that to refund the advertisers they will just recommend you block or hide the ads, and they will not do a refund they will deliver as many views and click on the ads based on the package, because Facebook is profit driven their users are their product and the advertisers is their cash cow, so they will always favor their advertisers.

I don't think this is correct. Even paid ads can be removed if it violates any of the policies of the platform. Also, after removing it, the publisher is unlikely to get his money back. I doubt they will refund him.
The problem with Google, fb.. is that they don't handle reports quickly and there must be many reports before they take it seriously and take an action.

I wonder why Twitter is so slow at handling this kind of thing. I've seen dozens of accounts with similar operations doing fake giveaways or airdrop trending on their page, but those accounts are still there without no action taken against them.
it's either there are not enough reports being made against the scam account to warrant an action or they probably just don't care. because if they cared, even if there is only one report against the scam account but as long as the report is accurate, they would have banned the account.

also, Facebook is the same, I can't count the number of accounts that I have reported on Facebook because the account is obviously trying to scam people but no action is being made.

Just astonished to see these huge number of followers from a fake project. This makes more difficult to find out real one and many of new comers trust these because they looks like real. Anyway fake Followers can be increased or bought easily even I saw some fake twitter promoting airdrops with blue verified badge as it's easy to buy and can attract newbies to be scammed.

This one should be a warning to newbies and never fall in these types of trap. If you see something suspicious from an official account you must verify it if there something compromised or not. Anyway good catch OP
Those followers are fake just like the project is fake. I only feel pity for those greedy fellows who think that they are smart and are looking for coins with high profit within some days. Those are the ones that will fall for this scam due to their greedy nature. Newbies should know the difference between bitcoin and other cryptocurrency so that they can invest on bitcoin and not on scam projects. I don't think someone like me will fall for such scammers because I believe only in bitcoin and if it is not bitcoin,I wouldn't invest.

Nice catch for the OP!

Although we can still identify that this is scammers while others that this is real, it looks like there are still many followers, many tweets, and many comments meaning that they believe that this is legit.

On twitter there are still many scammers, especially with Twitter wanting to rebrand to a new domain, of course scammers take advantage of this gap to steal a lot of money.

It seems that if many people report it, Twitter will not respond faster.

If we check this Twitter account that promotes the fake X token, we will find that in [This Tweet], they put a link to buy their scam token on Uniswap. After checking the token contract address on De.fi, it turned out to be a Honeypot token with a high risk of a Rugpull.
There is no doubt that these tokens are created with the intention of scamming crypto investors. By listing these fake tokens on Uniswap, attracting investors, they will sell all the tokens they hold and take money from the market. It is true that when a new trend is created in the crypto market, crypto investors invest in those projects without thinking, they don't think for a time that these projects can be Rugpull. So X token is a perfect example of how fake tokens enter the market.

It's easy to read the scammers' actions, where there is a new trend that's their lead to create a new scheme its always been what's trending and they create shill marketing and FOMO, if you're a new investor you'll be overwhelmed by the scheme because it's too hard to resist the FOMO.
But if you've seen these schemes so many times you'll just ignore these, but we should not stop to warn people because the scammers will never stop they keep improving, and we are good at catching them, they never stop but we keep it up.

what I worry about is people falling for the scam because they have 66k fake followers
I wonder why Twitter is so slow at handling this kind of thing. I've seen dozens of accounts with similar operations doing fake giveaways or airdrop trending on their page, but those accounts are still there without no action taken against them. It doesn't help that their CEO is changing their name to something obscure and allowing some random ass projects to piggyback their name. We can only rely on people having good awareness after so many scams are exposed on Twitter.

I too was wondering why the social media giant could do nothing about it. Many scam projects were encountered through twitter and they do away with their act so easily without any proper investigation from the media giant.
I think they need to have a look into their policies for business accounts to undergoing some sort of verification before they are allowed to create an account and do advertisement for their products. This can help to reduce the effect of scam projects through twitter media.

Even if it's an obvious scam, if the investors see the token is listed on the exchange and there is volume, a lot of investors are actually going to join in. We've seen this happen in the past.
Elon Musk's name is one of the factors to investors interested to invest his money in an unknown project. The hype investor will immediately move and find X token/coin to match in what Elon mentioned. I really sure they was bought and wait for the moment. maybe right now, they are looking for another token that contains an letter of X. I see that X token/coin on coinmarketcap rise about 100% after Elon mentioned

Check out the following results:

The proof that I mentioned above is simple proof indicating that the X tokens that are being promoted now are scam Rugpull tokens. There are accounts that also promote the pre-sale of the X token. The token creator places his wallet address for the Twitter victims to send him their investment funds to buy this scam token, and there are accounts that promote X phishing domains, so beginners should be careful.
