There has to be some technical difficulties from there end which caused such distortion in price index but seems like it is back to normal now. Nonetheless, incidents like this are not accepted from a reputed platform like Coinmarketcap. Hopefully, they will be more careful in the future.

I just saw some crazy numbers on coinmarketcap..
like $8500 btc, -90% vechain, +20% eth..
wtf is going on??
Not much for you to be alerted on that way. This is just a simple problem with index which can really give out those crazy numbers but not totally or we can conclude that its being hacked
and besides Coinmarketcap do give out a notice on about such issues and besides even if its hacked changing prices wont really be have a big effect yet this is just a preference site though.
For now anything works fine and i do still use up this site for checking out prices.

No it wasn’t hacked due to technical problem they turn off their system and that news was rumor based on this website. I hope nothing will happen and there is nothing to worry about this matter.

LOL that is because their server slow in update or they use the static website on updating the price value.

These are the possibilities to see this kind of problem.

So far even I love to use this site to check the price value any altcoin or token price. To get listed in the site itself many projects are all the time looking for it. So it will be in usage.

I think it’s a rumor. Hackers try to hack some site and they are being dropped in usage by countless dealer and  speculator.

OOps! you have seen wrong maybe. There is no $8500 thing done in recent times, it is still $7468 in BTC price. and also there have been no 20% increase in ETH rather than 1.99%. It's totally a fake news to manipulate users. Stay cool.

I noticed Coingecko went nuts too. It started moving coins up and down. Bcash went to number 13 on their list despite the actual numbers remaining static. Maybe they all have the same back end.
Probably!

I had missed out to see those numbers changed on CMC but this is not literally an incident which is connected to any hacks. This is just a glitch or error if CMC do made an update to their system.
For now i havent seen any differences when it comes to price. Why would people react too much?  Cheesy

Do not worry. CoinMarketCap was not hacked. Perhaps with the latest updates on the site there were some small errors that have now been fixed.

It was a software glitch during an update. They are changing the turnover algorithm since many exchanges are reporting inflated turnover.

It said to be a bug/glitch.

CoinMarketCap Says Data Glitch Boosted Its Crypto Price Numbers

Coinmarketcap bug escalates prices, causes frenzy among crypto traders

It boosted the price but it's back to as usual.

Not hacked just bugged is my guess, it has happened a few times before.
Yes it did happened before but I can't remember the exact date on when it also showed a bug.

Coinmarketcap only shows information about the market but it doesn't have money/crypto inside.

Well coinmarketcap from my sources was not hacked, but I understand that signals of decisions by holders of coins indicated that the prices were going to have a bearish run. This kind of triggered a domino effect on some other cpoin holders and as such the negative figs riding on the market..,,,
I hear it is stabilised now.! Cheers.

I think this is just a simple alteration , might be a server issue or information mix up. But its nothing to panic about. All infos are rightly updated. Lets not create any panic and fud from this.

it spiked a very exciting moment in me. I thought the bull run has begun and quickly went to check my wallet. It s very disappointing to see the values come back to normal.

yes, what they desire, but decentralisation of the market indexes is also progressing wont be that easy in the future, especially with this lost of trust that echoed all over social media

Not hacked just bugged is my guess, it has happened a few times before.

there is nothing wrong with them, its no doubt they manipulate small markets, but according to last screenshot i posted, it is few exchanges problems, reporting weird prices for coins

CMC can easily check logs of those exchanges to find out what had been wrong

Saw that too Vechain suddenly goes up to the 5th rank right above EOS. I guess there's just sudden pump and went down quickly as well. Probably one of the most bazaar thing going on which could be a sign something big is going to happen later on. If you have a bid that is suddenly picked up by a buyer, I'm not surprise.
