First, I think the ignore button is a wonderful thing and if posts bother you not much harm is done in ignoring a user.

Second, there are so many complaints about spam, fud, trolling, and signature selling, I have to ask, when exactly was this awesome golden age of bitcoin talk where the discourse was always so lofty and value added?  I'd really like to know.

It's the internet, any idiot can be on it and most of them are.

Good Luck.

P.S. I do wish there was a way to ban account selling, I can't see a legitimate reason for it, but don't see how.

Interesting concept, so in essence the community would self police?

Would there be a minimum "ranking" at which someone could vote for / flag a post?

In general the concept has a lot of promise

simple math, say 51% of viewers flag it..

That would let every sockpuppet master essentially become a moderator.

No I dont escrow anymore.
-snip-
we need a button to flag or vote to delete a post or response.

simple math, say 51% of viewers flag it.. its gone.  the majority denied the message.  we as a community have deemed it inappropriate or undesired.  it is not enough to ignore.

we can change things!

Opinions welcomed :-)

Isnt this how reddit works? I dont know what you are reading, but I dont see more FUD the last 2 month than the last 6 months. Usually reading the title is enough to unwatch that thread and read the others I care about.

last few months a rise in "new" users has created a haze over the world of bitcointalk.

so much positive and negative bs.  so many new users, so many aliases, so many bought accounts.
so much speculation on fud in both btc and scamcoin world.

we need a button to flag or vote to delete a post or response.

You claim that there are no new users, all new accounts are alts or bought, then suggests a system where if some % of users vote for a post be deleted, it gets auto-deleted.

Think 1 minite about why it is self-contraditory

If you think the posts break the forum rule, you should report them.
If you simply don't like the post contents of some users, you should ignore them.

People have already explained why this isn't a good idea.

Then what happens when a user uses his aliases and bought accounts to censor something of yours he doesn't like? This would easily be abused.

We already have a button to flag posts that break the forum rules, but saying something you don't agree with isn't necessarily breaking them. If you want censorship I'd suggest you find another forum.

Because just because you disagree with a post doesn't make it bullshit, who are you that you get to decide what is a valid opinion and what isn't? It's fine if you don't want that shit cluttering your screen, I don't either, but saying someone's opinion is worth less or somebody has no right to post because of what they say is an incredibly fascist way of thinking. If we started blocking peoples opinions based on votes then we'd have the exact same system we have in our current voting systems where you have entire blocks of people working to shun and block less organised or fractured groups from speaking out, it would just be mob rule.

majority would not be my opinion alone.
a compromise then, as on fake yelp.

No, that's censorship and I refuse to compromise on freedom of speech.

This would get easily abused. We may be a community, but most of us have different insights than others. Certain things aren't welcomed that much as others to certain people.
I already see some biased views anyway on most posts - if this happened, most threads would be heavily deleted. Not to mention, I already see that you say 'scamcoins' instead of Altcoins, so that already gives me a faint assumption of your views.
We already know what happened to trust. So, this is practically saying, "If certain people believe this thing more than this thing, than this thing is getting deleted!"

Why, so you can stick your head in the sand?
If 2 months ago someone said bitcoin would go down to below $400, that post would be flagged by 95%
