I think begging is part of a competitive market and naturally sorts itself out. Isn't any soliciting for commerce essentially begging? It's just that the marketing skill and creativity of the "beggar" varies across a wide range. Who can draw a line and say "this is acceptable business advertising, but that isn't"?

So... "my house burned down, please spare some change" could be considered "acceptable business advertising" by some standard that I'm not aware of?
It doesn't matter. As long as people have two brain cells to rub together, they will ignore that person (or ridicule them or whatever), and instead they'll send their money to some other guy offering shares in a venture capital housing construction business.

i dont mind sending few bitcents here and there, like here https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/give-awayrequest-free-bitcoins-here-22126

dont make up a story, just cut to the chase and ask/request for your first bitcoins
See now things like that are "alright" because were helping "jumpstart" people into the bitcoin world
I just hate seeing "i need a gpu to mine coins, I'll pay you back after with it's earnings after you buy me the card"

Also, those few bitcoin are very easy to earn today, on sites like CoinWorker.com. There's really no reason for a faucet anymore, much less for begging.

I think this entirely depends on the context - for example begging for information not readily available should be okay. But begging for bitcoins crosses this line.

Obviously.

Some begging threads are really entertaining. We should have a section where all the begging threads go, and trolling those threads is allowed and encouraged.

I like this idea. Skid Row subforum...

How about we have a vote.  The vote will take this form:

If you strongly disagree with begging on the forum (and you may define begging in whatever way you wish), register your vote by never handing any of your money over.

If you agree with allowing begging, hand over whatever amount you feel like entirely at your own judgement of the worthiness of the cause being begged.

Do you count your signature as begging? because I do.

That's not begging. That's providing a service.

Not really. And I don't expect any kind of donation there.
1- That's my wicked sense of humour, and I understand if others won't get it
2- It's an easy way to give a bitcoin address when someone asks for it on the forum without having to open my client and get one, I just say "Address in my sig" and get done with it Smiley
3- I should've made myself clear that I was referring to posting threads just for the sole purpose of begging.

We are a developer centric community. Fuck begging. Offer jobs, inspire to create, demand quality.

Begging is pointless and doesn't help anyone.

If absolutely must, they should get a loan.
