Obviously, we all have personal preference about the proposed UI and tbh I love the way our forum looks, I mean the interface is already the trademark of bitcointalk and for sure some will be uncomfortable with the new changes.

And yeah I don't get it what's with the problem in mobile interface? I mean I can perfectly use it everyday especially when I'm not yet home.
But anyway, I'll still support whatever the changes they'll implement, like do we have any choice here? The fact they already started it and ready to roll out. Just my two cents tho.

As others said it is in test form, you can also try it.

But what is the difficulty of using the current UI of bitcointalk? It seems easy and comfortable with current design than sites with more animations or whatever you consider as fresh design.

It's a nightmare for mobile users. No mobile responsiveness so you gotta zoom in everytime you refresh the page.

I don't really notice the problem you are facing right now. Even if the website doesn't adjust to mobile and desktop view of the browser I still feel comfortable using the current Bitcointalk's U.I.. Yes you can't add links, quote messages, and edit your post quickly but the basics of posting and replying is still bearable on my end. It may be because you have an outdated mobile phone or have a small screen that is why you don't think BCT's current U.I. is not good being viewed with a phone.

P.S.

I'm posting this using my phone right now and I don't see any problems with it.

Bitcointalk is here for years now and being Pioneer in the industry it should be something appealing to the users. Bitcointalk needs a fresh design. Being a forum which runs on community support all the members are requested to help at least a bit.
In my opinion, there are other major problems to be dealt with before taking design as a priority. I'm really happy with the UI as it is now. If you want to use your own styles/themes, there are a number of ways to do and they're already discussed on this forum.

This is already the trademark of our forum, the layout seems to be simple, but I see, in order to maximize the speed and efficiency of this forum, it needs not to be decorated that much. There are forums that are having way more User-Friendly theme. but what makes our forum the best is the passion we have and not attracted by looks but functionalities.

Not sure I agree on this. Priority should go to content and personally, I'd prefer to see the time, money and efforts spent on a new design, go to spam-fighting. Who cares about the looks, as long as this forum is perfectly stable and functional...

I totally agree. The current design looks clean and simple.

I've always disagreed with the need for a new look--I much prefer the consistency the forum has had over the past ten years.  I've been here since 2015 and basically nothing has changed visually, though some functions have.  I can't stand websites that keep changing their look, but that's just me.  Everything here is simple and easy to use.  I haven't even seen the epochtalk version of bitcointalk and probably won't until I absolutely have to.  I'm hoping it's at least as good as what we have now.

I'm not justifying that newer is always better, but mobile responsiveness is always welcomed. When I'm commuting to and from work, it hurts my eyes whenever I read posts because I have to manually zoom in, scroll to the reply box, post and then zoom in to navigate elsewhere. The fonts are pretty small so I tend to accidentally click on another hyperlink by mistake when they're grouped together.

Really?  I'll admit I'm no website designer, but SMF isn't bad and certainly doesn't seem like how you describe it.  Newer and trendier isn't always better.

If you're focused on SEO, it indeed is! Smiley As I manage a few of my websites, there are many factors to take into account and design is just one of them The above you mentioned is subjective, but they don't need bells and whistles, just something like this that goes easy on the eye (i.e. practical).

The above is just one of the hundreds/ thousands of templates and they're customizeable.

Actually SMF is always updated like other forum bulletins, so if you scroll to the bottom (footer), it's over a decade old. I'm not saying SMF is bad, only the outdated version is. Below is shows a vulnerability which is present in this very one:

Some might find it okay but in today's UI experience and ranking, it's a cardinal sin. And if Bitcointalk wants to improve its ranking, they should tackle the UI first.

Indeed is not mobile friendly, but for me is not an issue since I don't like to do anything on mobile apart of speaking at the phone but I bet many people use the mobile as PC for many many tasks so a mobile compatible version is a must even tho I like the current layout of the forum, which is clean and intuitive like a forum should be.

Imagine a visitor wondering how a famous forum stuck to such a horrendous UI, they might not want to return.

Besides, we need new intuitive features that can make our lives simpler. SMF 1.1.19 is very vulnerable to attacks.

It's nice to hear that there are more of us who actually like this design.

Maybe i am old school, but i got used to this classic forum design that  some other older forums use. I don't even mind that is not really mobile friendly, through years i just got used to it, and to be honest, i am not big fan of changes.

Stop Vod. Stop. Stop making me get excited after all these years of being a member. I have come to terms with it that it will never be released.
I think it will eventually be released but there is no chance that theymos will be surprising us for the 10th anniversary with the new forum software. You just have to take a look at the Epoch recent development and you can see that there's still several changes that need to be made. If we are to make a estimate on how long that will take basing it on the past development speed of slickage then I would say there is still a couple of years until the forum is deployed on Bitcointalk.

I'm not too excited for the new forum software really. I think I'm going to miss the SMF look it balances information and blank space perfectly where as I think Epochtalk has too much white space.

<…> What is eh difficulty in migrating?
Epochtalk, the new software that is being developed to support Bitcointalk (and potentially many other non-related forums) is allegedly “essentially finished”. I’ve experienced stating a project being in a similar state, and normally it’s the last 20% that is the most cumbersome to finish-off, and the part that tends to be prolonged way further than planned.

Stuff like a Merit module and a Trust module I believe are not officially finished. The new forum software needs to be a functional superset of the current functionality, and therefore, requires these (be it physical or conceptual) modules (amongst others I figure) to be finished, before attempting to migrate.

Besides the functionality, database migration is pretty delicate. The RDBMS could be different, field structure and types may not all be compatible, and tables are not going to be mapable with ease necessarily (at least not on a 1:1 basis).

Even recent additions to the current software, such as the Bump system may play against, since that will require to be developed in the new software too; at least if one is to create a functional superset and not a subset.

This will happen at some point (probably not when stated in the caption):

If by fresh design you mean a new UI/UX, then there's one already. Migrating the website is what makes it difficult. Check the 'New Forum Software' sub-board.
What is eh difficulty in migrating?

My guess would be keeping up to date statistics considering how active the forum is, and every time a new addition is added it needs to be reworked within Epoch. Look at major additions of Merit, and bump changes, and they'll likely need to be mitigated over, and its probably not as simple as copying the data over. Anyone who has dealt with software in the past will know once you've made changes to one line of code it could very well conflict with earlier or later lines in your code.

The fresh design will come one day with Epochtalk.

There is another issue that should be addressed though. This is not really the correct thread for that but nevertheless.
I read yesterday in our local forum that a new user who registered on the forum was required to pay an evil IP fee. He has never been a member here, knows nothing about Bitcoin and a friend of him referred him to the site and got him interested in Bitcoin. His journey on the forum ended before it even started probably due to a geo ban, ISP ban or something similar.
Maybe that is something that the admins can work on. Improving the evil ban features in a way that they don't interfere with those who have never been here before and are required to pay a fee to use their accounts.
