Yup it starts with the whales and the minnows follow until they are finished cashing
out which is perfect for the whales to buy back at a lower rate which in turn is
followed again by new minnows buying in, Bitcoin showing a nice healthy dollar
value of $2244

The whales might have cashed out but they certainly cashed back in!

Yeah, the drop was quite hard, i think it was due to panic and hence panic selling by many people. Now the prices of almost all coins have "bounced" back up, and i think this is just a "return to mean" price. So overall, it was a drop but the price is still higher than the price let's say, about a week ago?

Based on that i think the general trend is rising upwards with some slight bubble pops on the way.

I believe it's not yet time for the bubble to burst. It's just half way in the superbull market.

OMG panic time!! NOT.  This is not a bubble bursting. There is no bubble to burst.

Allow me to explain.  Cryptocurrency isn't in a bubble it's simply the beginning of a new phenomenon.  This is simply
natural market progression: Buying/selling  Profit getting/profit taking.

There is far too much behind this market to simply be a bubble that's going to burst and disappear.

One word of advice: Learn how to read charts!

I am sure many people have made huge profits on crypto last weeks and they want to get their money out. If the downward-stationnary trend lasts several days, it will not go up again soon.
This is my opinion.

Agreed. There was big pump and now we are at dump where the price is tarted falling down. However since yesterday night it seems to be very stable and consistent at one dot. This might be a good opportunity buy some bitcoins I guess. As there would be another pump very soon. I have already started investing in it with market research. Whales will also do the same for their own profits.

just look at the trends and charts for most alt coins; the bubble will pop soon, not the best moment to buy!
I think that too. It's hard to believe that hundreds of millions of dollars are moved through alts with almost no substance, every day. I hope people buying now have a backup plan.

Pump and Dump. Thats how the whales influence the markets. I wouldn't buy right now you will probably lose a fortune if you do.

I may be wrong but I don't have good feeling about this dump. If you look at the chart of global crypto capitalisation, it doesnt look like any other dump during past 3 month.
I am afraid the bubble has started to burst and the newbies buying at highest  price will pay the benefits of the whales who are cashing out.

How long is the bear market going to last? The saying goes "buy when others are fearful" but when is the right time to buy is the question. How long do the dumping phases last on average does anyone know?

The dumping phase can last a long time.

Here is a graph of Doge for example:

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dogecoin/

Notice that they had a pump in January 2016 - and then the bear market for doge lasted a full year, and those who bought at the top had to wait till March 2017 for another pump before they could cash out.

Bear markets in cryptocurrency can be brutal.

My opinion about this, is that there is a lot of new money coming in to the crypto world.

Just look at Facebook, you will see at least 2 times a week a post of Bitcoin hitting a new record, or a post of 'Ripple to the moon'. This is getting a lot of people curious. and some of them will give crypto currency a shot.

It is also getting more mainstream now, and easy to get started with crypto currency, that will make more people joining in today.

Also when you look in Google trends, you will see a lot of movement to all coins.

for example:

Bitcoin: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%2012-m&q=bitcoin

Ethereum: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%2012-m&q=ethereum

Ripple/XRP: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%2012-m&q=ripple

But also smaller coins getting more and more atention.

Artbyte: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%2012-m&q=artbyte

Myriad: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%2012-m&q=myriadcoin

Digibyte: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%2012-m&q=digibyte

But also more people are searching on the keyword 'crypto currency' in general: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%2012-m&q=crypto%20currency.

So what I think is yes, it will be a bubble, but it is just a new beginning with a lot of new people joining in.

I don't see any difference from the falls last week or the week before, there are always red days after the green ones.

Yeah, this could just be a pause and it looks just like the two before. Most of the coins drop about 20% and then hold steady. Then all of the sudden overnight they all are in the green again and being pumped.

The sudden rise and fall of bitcoin could be the culprit here. I think we're gonna see all green this weekend. (I hope)  Cool

Best time to buy. Coins on the discount for long-term holding

Get with it, boyo

You need to stop spamming message boards. I don't like the little games your playing. I take my money serous. You need to stop!

Yup. Buying now is a foolish act to do and you will loose money. The market fluctuating dangerously and hope this will stop gradually otherwise I feel many of the traders will leave altcoin trading.

well it depends on your strategy really and what you believe/think/hope and pray for,
there are other threads predicting bitcoin to go over $3000 this year and even $5000
so buying now would be ok too, but yea it all prediction, who knows whats going to happen ?
