Your friend made a wise decision, good for him. But that was a huge risk to get such a reward. We cannot be certain of the project which could turn out to be a better source of investment considering the nature of the market. I know for sure that the bull run will come, I'm only not certain of when it would come, which makes it a bit difficult to give assurance concerning any particular coin or project.

I mean if we're able to see another bull run similar to 2017, I'm sure the top 10 coins will be the first one to really enjoy it because obviously the support is there, it's just because investors are still reluctant to put their cash right now.

But if you are that smart, those top 10 alts are still cheap you can go buy and be a bagholder and hold for the next 2-3 years just like what you friend did early with XEM, (I assumed he just HODL on it).

3 years to hold those who can do that might be able to get whales, especially with a $ 100k investment maybe 3 years will get 200% profit even more.

I don't really believe in that, where buying and holding coins for a long time will double our profits. Those coins that you are describing are mostly the pump and dump coins. I wouldn't advise any person to track those coins that are gaining huge percentages within the week.

Having fake volume is their way to get more investors and hope that many doesn't buy on this gimmick anymore.

Probably the shittiest ones. Usually crappy altcoins get a pump in a bull market anyway. They are cheap, they pump anyway, you're not risking a lot of money,they are a throwaway investment in case of a bear market. All these things makes them good so if you invest in ETH or XRP you will be much safer in case of a bear market but you won't profit as much as you would with a shitcoin in a bull market.
The bad side of this is that shitcoin pumps are usually short and they tank anyway so you need to be fast.

wow really ? 100k usd is huge . i never experience to earned that on other coins that i hodl but maybe because i only hodl small amount of coins ? sometimes the profit that you will get will also depend on how much coin you got .

also value of the coin will matter . in that case , eth has the highest value among all altcoins so eth has the one that can provide you a better income if ever all altcoin goes to the moon but make sure that you have enough eth to make that happen .

It will be hard to tell which is which because Altcoins do have different rates of change which I can say is also based on popularity and supply and for me, every Altcoins can give us all opportunity to make rich if and only if you know how to choose wisely among the variety of Altcoins that are existing in the vast crypto market. As of the moment, I am still into believing that ETH can make its way to the top of the Altcoins because ever since, it is playing the rank next to Bitcoin so I assume that once the market goes into the hype to the moon, ETH will be one of those coins who can make holders as rich as they can based on the amount they currently hold. I also bet that LTC as well can lead its way to the top and same as the other Altcoins out there because progress and improvement is open to all types of crypto coins within the market.

Personally, I bet on Ethereum and LTC, since I work with these altcoins more and I think that they can make X 10 or more with the next moon flight. But in general, you need to choose those altcoins that have usefulness and the right product for the crypto industry, and these are infrastructure projects and, of course, projects with their own blockchain technology.

It's needed to assess and study very well before taking your side positioning your entry, there's always manipulations especially with unknown projects. Be very vigilant when investing to any kinds of investment that you'll going to take inside this market, if you don't want to regret your actions make sure to always pay attention with long term goals and not just for short term pump that will lead you being trapped.

It is difficult to determine which coin will guarantee you a large amount of income in the end. After all, it always have risks to take and accept before you jump on anything. It would also be better to invest in multiple coins if possible. Almost all alts are expected to grow at the beginning but only some have managed to survive for long so, be wise on investments.

I think ETH will have really good returns vs BTC in Q1 of 2020.
But, if you find a project that lost 95%+ of its ATH and is still alive and dev/community is strong, with own blockchain or real use case and partnerships(ENJ is one) those will be the next gems in the next 12-18 months. Buy the dips and be patient. Once this train starts, you will be handsomely rewarded.

In my opinion, in 2017, you had not to worry about which had the chance to grow up rapidly. Almost each coin were going up. But now, things are different. So, choice (by analyzing its future adoption) is only way to invest on altcoins to make some profit.
