Voting on internet is not secure, it can be cheated either by bots or sock-puppets.
And the owner of the website can modify the result at will.

The voting on MemoryCoin is secured by the code and the blockchain.
Same goes with the sending of coin to winners.
The vote is proportional to your share like in every company. Did you hear about DAC ?

As for the official position(dev, marketing, network, etc...), they are getting their share (1% of current block and not 80 like you said) only when they are elected, and they can be out voted every two hours (http://memorycoin.org/board/), we already saw multiple change and more challenger are welcome.

At some point there was more than 100$ worth of MMC distributed everyday to charity.
Here is the list of charity, everybody can add and vote for a new one in a decentralised way :
Peace Geeks
Sean’s Outpost
Split between different charities c/o donschoe
Horizontality.org
Electronic Frontier Foundation
SPICES

1% of the 5% goes to charity, correct? That' means 80% of the 5% goes to the devs. Also, voting is secure and we'll be having third party verification of the votes once we grow larger.

Memory coin seams weak to me personally and cant be compared to a powerhouse like EMC2

MemoryCoin is already doing charity and voting inside the block chain. (http://MemoryCoin.org)

And any developer can be elected to be paid by the blockchain if he have something to offer to the community.

Just watched the video on the site you linked. I did not hear them mention that a % of mined coins goes to fund anything. All I heard is PAID devs and fair mining.

I don't think this coin is on par with EMC2....

oh wait

"5% of newly mined MemoryCoins are awarded as grants to finance development, support and marketing. Anyone can apply for a position and the winners are selected by a vote of MemoryCoin holders. This ensures a continual stream of coins are available for projects and efforts that benefit MemoryCoin. 1% of all newly mined coins are earmarked for charity, also voted for by MemoryCoin holders."

So let me get this straight, you're comparing a coin which donates 2% of every blocked mined to scientific research, nominated by anyone anywhere in the world. And voted on by anyone anywhere in the world to a coin where only coin holders can vote, and 80% of the coins put aside go to devs... sounds like a crappy premine built-in coin.

Don't get me wrong.. I like the idea of donating 1% to charity.. but keeping 4% out of the 5% and having coin holders vote is just crazy. If I have more coins then do I get more of a say. Sounds a little rigged to me.

How long has memory coin been around? at least 3 or so months... Have they made any donations as of yet, if so... to whom and how much... If they are really helping people other then themselves, AWESOME.. from my seat though it just looks like they are helping themselves.

Just wanted to throw in here that EMC2 donated $1000 US to Walter Moss PhD of Yale and then ran a fundraiser which raised another $600 US which was enough to fully fund is project on experiment.com. Were also running our second vote starting tonight or tomorrow depending on where you live which anyone in the world with internet access can vote, and of course a bigger donation is coming after that... All this in less the 50 days and we don't even pay our devs.. everyone is working on this coin because we love it and see the potential for life changing funding to take place through the einsteinium foundation.

Looking through some (not many) of your previous posts, it seems like you are a tad butthurt because bitcoin is not doing as well as you had hoped.

Were you really hating on the fact that doge got a Nascar placement before bitcoin??? Really??

Why would someone hate on that? News like that is only good for crypto as a whole including bitcoin!

I personally want to congratulate the doge community for their great work in the crypto space. When they get positive press its good for all of us. Maybe bitcoin is doing so shitty because everyone's realizing how the main people behind bitcoin don't give two shits about the community.

I think that a lot of people are dismissing the dollar amount of the first donation and thinking that the coin has no/little purpose, but the big picture potential of Einsteinium is supermassive. The contributions to scientific research grow 1:1 with the coin. It won't take that much more growth until the contributions are large enough to bring in major news coverage. And it gets better if EMC2 becomes a major player. After $1.00 value, EMC2 would be making donations in the range of hundreds of thousands to scientific research. EMC2 is like a rolling stone - Adoption grows, contributions to science grow, bigger press is achieved and then the cycle repeats...

As an investment?

  • The 'interested in science' demographic is strong in the crypto-currency community.
  • EMC2 has a strong enough purpose to gain interest in scientific communities completely unrelated to crypto-currency.
  • The coin promotes itself extremely positively every 25 days, automatically.
  • The science/tech niche of EMC2 targets merchant markets furthest ahead in accepting crypto-currencies. Additionally, a merchant accepting EMC2 could be seen as supporting science, or giving their customers the chance to support science. Good PR for everyone. I believe that will be a good motivator for merchant adoption. I can imagine merchants like ThinkGeek wanting to accept EMC2.

Personally, I think EMC2 is the answer to a lot of problems with crypto-currency. Some of you may have noticed that we have a bit of a PR problem with BTC and crypto in general. Cheesy

I also think EMC2 could literally change the course of humanity. At LTC levels EMC2 would contribute millions of dollars a year to scientific research. At BTC level: Hundreds of millions or billions. A level above that, that we here know crypto-currency could reach? More funding than science has ever had in the course of humanity. Grin

I support EMC2 because I want robot legs and the chance to vacation on Mars, maybe take some time to explore the Andromeda galaxy. Tongue

Well my thought is that we must be doing something right if we got picked up by cryptsy without winning the vote on their site.

Developers with names AND pictures + good cause.  However reddit is kind of thin, bitcointalk thread kind of thin but at the same time not a lot of people calling "scam".  Other than a Yahoo finance article there's no "real media" coverage of the coin but there are some on-line writes on crypto-oriented sites. There are a few "to the moon" idiots drifting in and one really clever scammer who posted a fake tweet from Cryptsy about how the coin was about to get listed on Cryptsy.  After Mazacoin (which looked equally "real" and "official") I'm gun shy but still might put a little into this just-in-case.  Still deciding, watching the forums, etc.

Actually, Einsteinium is a metal, and we saw it fit to use a name for metal when were talking about a coin as most coins are made of some sort of metal.  Smiley

Not too many replies here. I'd really like to know what the others think.

I don't think about it.

Surely you must have some thoughts on the matter!

Gut reaction is that the coin has nothing to offer so it had to use Einstein's name.
