We all love to see Bitcoin to remain on top but of course I know we also hold good altcoins that’s why we are waiting for the bull run with them but only few was able to rise along with Bitcoin. I’m still rooting for good DeFi projects to go up trend as well, we still have time next year and altcoins will continue to grow.
Well, altcoins will remain calm if bitcoin dominance will continue to grow, perhaps I am thinking that most people that have altcoins was switching to bitcoin because they know that the price continued rising and a potential to get profit on it. When the dominance of bitcoin will drop, for sure there are too many altcoins that will pump up and that time could be the altcoin season, but for now, the price was swinging together with the movement of bitcoin. I don't see a massive increase.

But I'm more in favor of seeing bitcoin at its top rather than wishing to see the altcoin season because it's more profitable for me if it's bitcoin going further to the next all-time highs.

Yes, I agree with you on this point, I also prefer seeing Bitcoin dominating the market and climbing to new highs instead of seeing the Altecoin season, but in any case I think that the Altecoin  season will come even a little late, especially that as you mentioned, we are starting to see some Altcoin actually moving Towards the top.
It might be majority of us in here are preferring to see bitcoin going into a series of peaks than to see altcoins. No idea still when will the altcoin will come. It doesn't sound look that we're going to see it very soon. With all of the ruckus and news that we see today in altcoins, I doubt it that we'll actually see it the soonest. In that reason, it's best to wish and get yourself some bitcoins while it's not yet going to peak. Money from some altcoins market cap are going through bitcoin and we can see that through bitcoin's dominance.

It happen already one of the example of the altcoin that starting is ETH they break  his yearly all time high record for this year  not the price he has in 2017 .but still we can now feel the altcoin season unlike for the past 2 years when investors is almost loosing their hope to recover it again . There also traders that the target of ETH for this year or early next year is 1400$ too far but it's possible that we can see it if the trend of altcoin or altcoin season will continue to dominate.

I think the OP is talking about ATH as obviously, then are lagging as far as bitcoin, because we already surpassed like every day our previous ATH. So I don't think that any of the top 10 altcoins will break their previous all time high this year, yes they could have registered higher high that's already an accomplished.

And for them to hit all time high next year next year, bitcoin's dominance should be reduce, it is set to 70%, need to bring it down to at least 40%-50%, just like late 2017 to early 2018, wherein alts set their all time high.

I would say all time high for altcoins will be broken this year. I know this is not a favored topic because most of them require at least 2x or 3x or even maybe more because we are far away from those prices, however I believe it is possible. This is why I do have a bit of ETH and BNB instead of my usual Bitcoin investment (still keeping most of my money in bitcoin) and even invested some into ADA and Tron as well, not much but a small amount.

I did all of this thinking if I do not make any profit from alts, I could still recover some from bitcoin, while I also think I could make even more profit if Alts finally break over their all time prices.

Altcoins have slightly increased in the market right now, such as 5% xrp, 10% eos, 14% eth, and 15% BCH. The question is, whether it's the start of the altcoin rally or just a small retracement. Bitcoin has some strong support from institutional investors and big companies as well as several well-known coins such as eth, bch, xrp, ltc, and zcash https://grayscale.co/digital-asset-investment-report/ but for the most altcoins driven by retail investors and traders, the trading volume and value movement really quiet compare to major coins mentioned above, probably following bitcoin to increase as the part of the market but will fall harder than bitcoin, even after xrp news people in fear caused more panic and most altcoins also dropped up to 40%.

This is not the altcoin season obviously and still Bitcoin dominates the market. We should not compare the current up trend with bitcoin from the previous one because its different now and not all altcoins are moving fast, maybe during the bull run last 2017, many still believe on altcoins but now that there's a lot of scam projects starting from the ICO, IEO, DEFI, the trust of the investors are slowly fading away and only the good altcoins remain listed. Hopefully that goo altcoins will start to perform well next year, there's a lot of time for that to happen.

It's still too far when compared.
Ethereum especially.
Even with Ethereum 2.0 + Bitcoin pump, their market cannot recover from the previous ATH.
I think it's really a different market structure now.
Plus, the possibility of investors not being divided anymore. Bitcoin price is proof of that by now even with its expensive price.

If you read from the pattern of previous years, then after Bitcoin has experienced a big increase altcoins will also follow. Maybe it's just a matter of time. Naturally, at the end of the year like this the price will still slightly change, because of course many people also sell assets for their new year. And it is possible that the altcoins season will occur in Q1 2021.

seeing from the current market movements, the bullish currently that is happening to Bitcoin is not bullish like what happened in 2017-2018, this time it looks more like bullish in 2016.  Altcoins that move up (such as Eth, BCH and others) looks like it only small responds to Bitcoin price movement (not yet fully influenced by the Bitcoin price).  we will see the full move of Altcoins possibly next year (when the Bitcoin price was over $50k)..

It's good to see how optimistic you are for predicting 50K USD next year. But we are talking about a 25K gain for over a year only? Hard to achieve but still possible.

Altcoin is can't react because the BTC is on fast phase in terms of pumping price. ETH and other Big altcoins that barely follow BTC is just a result of some whale diverting some of there stock to undervalued altcoin.

From my point of view, there is way less hype around altcoins now, compared with 2017.
Back in the day,a new altcoin/token was created every week, claiming that will be "the coin that will dethrone Bitcoin".That didn't happen,so nowadays the traders and investors are way more cautious, when investing in altcoins.Maybe that's why the altcoin markets aren't that bullish, compared to the Bitcoin market.
The other reason is that the institutional investors are mostly interested in Bitcoin Core and they are completely ignoring the altcoins.

The actual numbers, of course, are difficult to predict, but no the overall trend!

Alts often start moving after BTC, and if you payed attention at the market you can already see that some Alts like Eth and Orn have started this movement. As usual, we don't know how large this increase will be but we know from history that this often precedes BTC growth.

what do you think is it possible for Altcoin to reach a new ATH after Bitcoin crossed the top 2017?
I have also noticed that because I hold a few altcoins like Ethereum that I want to see it cross its past ATH. But with the dominance of bitcoin, it's taking most of the market cap of the whole cryptocurrency that is the reason why most money is on bitcoin. We will see the altcoin season but we don't know how long bitcoin's dominance would stay. But I'm more in favor of seeing bitcoin at its top rather than wishing to see the altcoin season because it's more profitable for me if it's bitcoin going further to the next all-time highs.

Actually its very difficult to predict about altcoins at present time. Though BTC Price is in bull run but not altcoin. This is very very problematic. Maximum are holding altcoin as BTC price was high so its growing tension for all altcoin investors or holders. Only ETH may rich its position again but others, there is no guarantee so everybody have to invest at their own risk.

For me, Bitcoin already dominating these days, altcoins are on the hand of Bitcoin now. Recent peak of Bitcoin dominance was around at August 2019, which it is the next stop to test.
I am still expecting altcoins will still bleed or will be still more neutral and test the 70% level of Bitcoin dominance.
Still lot of people are waiting for alt season Cheesy.

Let say the bitcoin price can hit $35k-$40k, then the altcoin can increase double or triple in the next altcoin season. Ethereum can be $2k or more, Litecoin can be $1k or more, BCH can be $1k, ADA can be $10-$50, XMR can be $500-$1k, TRX can be $5-$10. But that is only a prediction which I don't know if that will happens or it will needs longer to happens. As long as the altcoin price lists you mention can increase more than the last high price in the previous altcoin season, I will be glad to sell my altcoin at that price.

Perhaps, the altcoin section will give surprise us as we have already seen what happens to bitcoin so far. So what we need to do is just prepare for that moment by having many altcoins which we think could be the potential to increase later.

Altcoins over-performing against bitcoin in a bull market isn't really anything new, and the charts clearly shows that. It's just that picking your entry and exit points can be a bit tough.

As for ATHs for most altcoins though? While I wouldn't be surprised if they reach new ATHs, I wouldn't bet on it either as a lot of these altcoins are still really really far from their 2017 peaks.
