Chris Christie said nice things.

Is the SEC closed also? That would be great!

I was in NY disaster zone. Well not super hard hit, if you don't count a lost a car and no electricity/heat for 2 weeks. FEMA guys showed right after I got heat/electricity. I was really like WTF guys, isn't that a little bit too late?

The only thing I care is really the default, after that we can write US off. Right now we're loosing jobs, which can be repaired with a "little" more cost (DoD contracts, etc)

Yah, I really don't know if those agencies are well managed and all that stuff, but I believe in strange things like our taxes should go into education, health, safety and a social security, I believe the way for a society to prosper is a healthy, well educated and without fear of being homeless in the next week population, so I tend to overreacted when I see/hear comments from people that think the "law of the jungle" should be our way of life, but like I said, I believe in strange things.

Republicans are afraid Obama Care may be a good thing so they shutdown everything because they want something too.

Quote
“We’re not going to be disrespected,” conservative Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., [told the Washington Examiner]. “We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.”

Yeah, I've seen on the news, people are now doubting, insulting obama.  Is this the end of him as minister, next election?

Worst part about all this may end up being widespread shutdowns in the private sector (from the auto to pharma industry, and plenty in between). Regulatory agencies have funds to continue critical certification services. They had time to come up with plans to deal with funding deferment, but many didn't (instead opting to "go on strike"). Private companies required to go through certification processes the government refuses to provide will eventually have to start furloughs of their own if a solution isn't found fairly soon. Car companies are going to be sitting on piled-up 2014 inventory if it keeps on, since they need EPA certifications. The execs of JIT factories must be jumping up and down while screaming in panic. Cheesy

That's a lot of bad shit.  Could the movie, "The Purge" come true? hehe.

People from NJ may have a different opinion about FEMA.

Um why? They are useless. I saw a FEMA person 2 weeks after Sandy, asking if we're ok?

2 weeks? LOL.

The people behind this shutdown should be declared traitors and locked up. All they are doing is aiding the Chinese in their steady takeover of the western businesses.

Hell, they might as well all start speaking Mandarin and get used to a communist-capitalist lifestyle.

Don't forget NOAA, EPA, and NSF.  All the discretionary funding is some of the most important money we spend.  And it's the most vulnerable.  Who knows why?  Oh I know it's because people like you don't think it affects you if our science research comes to a screeching halt.

Are NASA and FEMA useless?

NASA has actually produced results and technology. FEMA just produces jobs for Federal contracters.

If your local McDonalds closed the women's bathroom...would you say that McDonalds is shut down?

Less than 15% of the federal government is shut down.

Worst shutdown ever.

If you worked at McDonalds and got furloughed you'd say they got shutdown.  Are you saying that just because you're not affected you don't care at all?  That 15% is still a huge amount of people that are affected.

If I worked at McDonalds and I was the only one out of 10 people not working, I would not say that McDonalds is shut down. Nor would any of the customers.

Especially if I was one of the useless workers (like the ones that were furloughed).

Are NASA and FEMA useless?

RIP Mommy
Hopefully a bunch of people are keeping track of exactly what's getting shut down and what isn't. The big picture as I see it is that 1) some non-essential parts or subparts of government like the FCC are shut down passively 2) some non-essential parts of government like public land and memorials are actively, unnecessarily shut down BY PAYING MORE MONEY (for men with guns, barricades, moving equipment rental, etc) 3) parts of the government necessary to preserve life and property like federal civilian firefighters and nationwide kidnapping trackers (kidnapping is often across state lines, and a federal offense investigated by the FBI) are unpaid and shut down, respectively.

Anyone who admits to 2 and 3 should be unsurprised when people call for the abolition of government and replacement of it with private enterprise.
