nowadays there are many new coins that appear but the exchange rate is very different from btc. all that is useless if we already buy but there will be no big advantage. honestly i still rely heavily on btc from the past till now rather than trying the others.

Don't follow hedge funds.

The majority of them underperform compared to their benchmarks.

Second thing is, hedge fund managers learned about stocks.  A programmer can do a better job of picking cryptos than a finance grad.

Not sure I agree with your statement 100%. Your a probably right, that currently they do not know yet too much about all the alt coins an their potentials, as the overall crypto market is not yet mature and so many new projects are popping up. But also the charts of Crypto currencies can be read like stock charts. And the future of crypto currencies will also depend on how much of the "old" money is moving into this new market.

Is there any way to see what alt currency’s these new crypto currency hedge funds are investing in?
You could check coinmarketcap though you might not like the result. The other poster did look like he has a valid list, you might want to check it out.

Oh I initially though of a short list where one could hardly choose the right one. But here is the list. Amazing how long it is. Some might even be added to this recently. The choosing now becomes even more harder. LOL.  Grin

Eurekahedge contains a collection of databases, research, etc. from various hedge funds.

Here's an example of a hedge fund crypto trading strategy using the Eurekahedege Cryptocurrency Fund Index

http://www.eurekahedge.com/Research/News/1657/Crypto-Currency-Funds-Strategy-Profile

It contains five actively managed altcoin funds.

Interesting read.

Hope this helps.

Is there any way to see what alt currency’s these new crypto currency hedge funds are investing in?

90%+ of hedge funds are keeping their investment private. But I cannot imagine they to invest in some other cryptos than BIG 3 like BTC, ETH, LTC and speculating with other alts. Just are having responsibilities to people which in most cases doesn't know what cryptos are and we are free to do whatever we wants.

They might offer some sort of options for the investor, how much they would like to risk in altcoins / icos. Bitcoin is the stable option, but other alts that are successful are likely to be worth more - just have to pick the right ones!

Is there any way to see what alt currency’s these new crypto currency hedge funds are investing in?

Unlikely.  They usually don't let many people see which stocks they invest in.

Most hedge funds are reluctant to disclose anything but a broad strategy, like "crypto". If they, as is common, lock up the investors funds for a while they might tolerate more risky alt-coins. However, I suspect they mostly invest in the least volatile crypto-currencies.

The most of them are going to invest in Bitcoin, thats for sure! But I think theyre also going to grab some altcoins that are popular and got a lot of attention. I think we have interesting times right now, crypto is going to be great in the next years and it will get more and more attention!

are there any requirements for hedge funds to list their positions?

That should give a kind of overview of their positions.

I also would be highly interested to know more but agree that they will most likely invest the big one like btc, eth, dash, litecoin, ...

By the way, what is the average size of blockchain hedge funds? i found a really interesting article on facebook today that the top 1% of btc holders own 25% of all bitcoins...

Is that really true?
