Although it does have its differences, on the surface at least, Ethereum functions as a cryptocurrency much like most others. Ethereum's token, "Ether," works in a similar manner to bitcoin. You can buy and sell it, with confirmations for transactions handled over the blockchain. It's entirely decentralized, with no banks providing the confirmations needed to validate transactions. Instead, "miners" around the world fulfill that role by running powerful computational algorithms. Completing them rewards Ether, much like mining bitcoin rewards bitcoin.
What I like best about Ethereum isn't really working and needs to be scaled to have any relevance whatsoever. DAPPS are pretty sweet, but since they aren't functional for a large user base that is kind of a bummer

Because it is a first platform to push with smart contracts and it has many running nodes. Because it's infrastructure is being built and simply because many projects go there to run their ICOs and if they implement even smartcontracts then use case for ethereum grows more as you have to pay fees in ether. Although I won't go over negative things since you proposed best things.
