I like classical art more, because modern is very specific and most of this is an incomprehensible daub with a fictitious hidden meaning

I don't know that much about art, but, if by contemporary art you just mean art that's been created recently, I think there's definitely some good stuff. I suppose everybody is entitled to his/her own tastes, but I think there's a little bit for everybody out there. I think there are truly some ridiculous "pieces of art" as many have posted in this thread already, but there's also plenty of brilliant stuff. I personally love realistic art. I find it amazing when somebody can paint in such a way that it seems like it's real. Sometimes I even like hyper-realistic stuff, where it seems really, but it's something so astounding that you couldn't imagine actually seeing it in real life.

There's so much beauty and uniqueness to contemporary art, I like contemporary art.
I relate to it and draw inspirations and ideas from it. I love it and it's refreshing to the
eyes, soul and heart. I am a heavy fan of the classical art, but I seriously admire it a lot.

I do appreciate a good contemporary art, but it is even more impressive when mashed with modern technology. Recently I came across a 360 video of Van Gogh's Starry Night in virtual reality. It was such a treat to see it and explore the art in full view. I think this is where the beauty of virtual reality lies and I hope more contemporary art pieces could be turned into something like that.

That's right, that used, dirty, who-knows-what's-in-it bed sold for £2.2M at an auction. Modern art is basically just a money laundering scheme now.

art market is unrealistic  Grin it has nothing to do with art itself, it's just business - and money laundering too  Tongue

Contemporary art is a very subtle thing. My friends say modern art is a trash )))
I love contemporary art, but I'm often really frustrated with the contemporary art world.
Are you interested more in modern art or more in classical art?

Modern and contemporary aren't the same. "Contemporary" refers to post ww2 production that expanded the concept of art beyond traditional techniques. The modern period is characterized by different forms of abstraction (impressionism, expressionism, cubism, construtivism, neoplasticism, suprematism...) in contemporary the artist questions even the boundary of the frame and the museum as an art space - strongly influenced by the dadaism. Then other forms of creation emerge, such as installations, performances, land art, body art... Dadaists can be seen as precursors of postmodernism, and they also were not very well accepted in the 1920s Tongue

most of the so called "contemporary art" is IMHO a meaningless tribal ritual

tribal rituals were always linked to art

Even though there is indeed a real lot of great art which is done today, most of the so called "contemporary art" is IMHO a meaningless tribal ritual which has no links whatsoever with art. I realiza that some could argue that his is just my subjective opinion. But to make it more objective I could argue that EVERY WORK OF ART THAT NEED TO BE EXPLAINED IN ORDER TO BE UNDERSTOO AND APPRECIATED IS NOT A WORK OF ART. This is my personal criteria on the subject.

often it's more about feeling than rationalizing. but there are levels of communication, you don't really need explanations if you have repertoire to recognize references.

Contemporary art is the evolution of our imaginative idea. Aside in comparing to our historical arts we should accept that this is the 21st century, and every generation are transformation of concepts, that may lead to innovation or downgrade of other people's perspective to what an art is meant to be.

I recently had my contemporary arts class last year, and with it, I realize a lot of things. First is that in contemporary period everyone can be an artist on its own way. Another is that contemporary art is more on the process rather that the product of the process. It is a good thing to see this kind of view of contemporary artist as they put their hearts on what they do and that makes artwork more valuable. Some may see contemporary as something as trash as it is far beyond what is expected which should be like those in the old times, but the sense of dynamic makes contemporary art valuable in any ways.

Why are you frustrated with the contemporary art world? I think it will only get better, especially now that artists are incorporating augmented and virtual realities into their work. Visitors can now not only do virtual tours, but immerse themselves in the experience of what an artist's creative process is? And wall murals in Miami come to life when viewed with a smartphone. I think AR and VR provide an extraordinary medium for artists, giving them more opportunities to be successful in their craft.

Finally I discovered what modern art is for: money laundering. Thank you.

I never understood what was going on with those modern art museums, those "artists" with so much money.

Even though it can occasionally be used for money laudering, in most cases modern art is just a sort of surreal religion, where people worship garbage because some high priest (the critics) say that's art. It should be studied in sociology schools.

Well, I think that we must not compare contemporary art to a classical art because they are totally different. They have their own styles, techniques, subject matter, and materials used. But for some,  classical art is better than a contemporary one. I am not saying that it is not true nor I agree or disagree with that statement. However, I also believe that contemporary art is also better in its own right. Contemporary art revolutionize the typical art forms and truly breaks the stereotypes in the world of art. It opens an opportunity for the aspiring artists to be more creative and innovative when it cones to their artworks. It makes them think outside the box sincethey are not limiting themselves to the known technique, styles, ans materials.

If it's truly talented artists, composers, writers, that's wonderful. If, however, the bezdari, who is simply reluctant to go to the plant and who, like worms, parasitize art on an already created art, then brazen mediocrity from their worm-parasitic life does not become an art phenomenon, whatever the "democratic" press stank about.

In mass culture in different epochs, this or that kind of art prevails. Today, music, cinema and photography are perhaps the most popular and popular arts. But this does not mean that they are valued more than theater, literature, painting. They are simply more accessible.

Quite frankly, I've seen traditional, literal shit art from sub-Saharan Africa more aesthetically pleasing than most modern "art" these days.

I mean, compare this cow dung frames

"I see contemporary art as a dlrty plate heaped wlth worthless junk food and I want something more nourlshlng." )))

There are few good conceptual ones, for example using gauze fabrics to create floating portraits and magnetically-controlled metal to create patterns on sand but otherwise much of the "high-tier" modern art is shit.

I liked these ones.
