I am not much bothered about the robot. But what is the point in granting citizenship to a robot, when people who have spend 30 or 40 years in Saudi Arabia are still refused the Saudi citizenship, just because they are not Muslims? Granting citizenship to a robot will not make the Saudis progressive. It just shows how hypocritical they are.

What do you think about Sofia, the first robot who just had been granted the Saudi Arabian citizenship?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5t6K9iwcdw

I must admit I'm completely overwhelmed. I think it's great and hadn't realized that technology was that advanced, but don't manage to assess all the consequences that can have.
I don't know but i don't like the idea of having robot citizen. Idk but it gives me chill when she said she wants to upgrade herself. What if no one can have access to her if she keeps upgrading herself?

I just hope Saudi can make her feel comfortable.  Cheesy

This, one of the first of its type, is already threatening the human existence, what would happen when we make them with Guns and sensors. They'll soon take over the world.

Actually, it's really amazing. But it's scaring too: we don't know exactly how far this stuff with artificial intelligence can go.

Yeah, sorry to disappoint you, but that was mostly a publicity stunt. And if you've seen the video until the end, you know that was (at least partly, maybe largely) scripted. Tongue

That's not to say real progress isn't being made in the area, but it's nowhere near the "giving the robots citizenship" level. Also, it's a bit ironic that Saudi Arabia, of all places, is concerned about "human" rights.

I completely agree with you about the fact that it happened in SA! And idk if I'm disappointed or comforted to be honest.
But you're right, progress is being made: https://www.wired.com/2016/01/in-a-huge-breakthrough-googles-ai-beats-a-top-player-at-the-game-of-go/
This article is from 2016, but I've heard a new computer just beat this one recently, learning how to play go (or chest, i don't remember) in only 4 hrs. Can't find anything online about it though.

Yeah, that's how far technologies have come. The trend will continue. We will live with robots just like in sci-fi movies. I like video with Sophia as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg_tJvCA8zw. That's hilarious Grin

I'm shocked, the robot got citizenship, what next, the legalization of marriage relations with robots? Although in history there was a case (in some state of the US), a man officially married a vacuum cleaner...

xD was it in Vegas or not even? humans' extravangances...

I think that sofia the robot is actually a technological breakthrough because for the first time a robot has been given a citizenship. I think that sofia is a masterpiece and I hope that sofia is not like one of the movies that wants to destroy humans in time Wink
