In my opinion eth will stay same place in next 10 years at least. I can not see any potential of other altcoins to be new eth. also we dont need new ethereum. You know we are also not need new btc and so we dont need new ethereum. Btc and eth are really good coins with amazing technology . So i can not say anything about eth. Eth is the king and it will be king also in the future.

For now, I don't see any good alternative for ETH and I think the reasons why the ETH marketcap dropped because of ASIC miners and the price drop a lot.
I'm a fan of ETH honestly, but they promise before that they are ASIC resistant, after the release of ASIC miners the price of ethereum start to fall and huge of GPU miner stopped and sold.

Anyway, if you are just looking for the alternative the top 10 coins on the CMC are good alternatives, but you can try BCH it is the best alternative for me.

Ethereum is holding a very strong 2nd position, but eventually, in the long term something will overtake it as a better blockchain protocol. What do you think it is going to be and why?

Currently, in addition to Ethereum, we have many other cryptos that can replace it. Some potential cryptos are XRP, EOS, LTC, ADA, XLM. These cryptos are almost all in the top 10 of the most powerful cryptos on the market so you can choose any crypto to invest in, and I usually invest in EOS then hold.

Stellar maybe or now we called Lumens. Their coins is still survived until now and have potential especially when they will adopted for a tokens too. Too bad Waves can't really reach ETH's popularity.

None. At least for the next 5 years. Just see what people are suggesting in this topic.

Eos? Neo? Two extremely centralized projects controlled by no more than 10 people with a huge power to reverse actions and transactions in the blockchain. Of course, in this crazy market can pass for a few days the market cap. But they will never pass the utility that a decentralized platform goes through.

Ethereum will have several great news in the coming months when it will become a PoS project and scalable while maintaining a degree of decentralization. The only project that can come close is Cardano. But that will depend on SHELLEY's success and its ability to offer governance different from anything we have.

in my opinion the most suitable one to replace Ethereum if only the Ethereum position was taken then the coin should be NEO, but it probably wouldn't happen, remembering that the history of Ethereum is very good

because Ethereum competition has a lot and of course they are more thinking of ways that their platform can defeat Ethereum, so if Etheruem doesn't make progress, then I'm sure there will be lots of coins that can defeat Ethereum because the coin will definitely make a better platform than Ethereum, so a lot of people who will use their platform rather than Ethereum.

The decentralized computing network offered by EOS definitely has its growing pains for now, and there are CPU and RAM issues abundant, but I think that given time and opportunity to grow, EOS will overtake ETH as number 2, particularly if Vitalik leaves.

EOS isn't a decentralized computing network because it isn't decentralized. The entire EOS blockchain is completely under the control of the 21 Block Producers who can do anything they want - reverse transaction, freeze accounts, seize your coins. They create new EOS out of thin air every day to reward themselves for the privilege. It is buggy and expensive to use. Meanwhile, most of the dev team have already cashed out and left, and it won't be long before Dan Larimer follows suit (again! See: Bitshares and Steem). Not even mentioning the fact that there seems to be a new EOS hack pretty much every week.

EOS won't overtake Etherum because EOS is a scam.

Ethereum has scalability problems and unlimited emission so the main competitor will successfully solve these problems in short time and I see 2 potential projects like ETH killers - QuarkChain and Pchain but DYOR!

For years I have heard the Ethereum was the best and it was going to take BTC place, as it was "a better blockchain protocol".

Now you are already looking for another one? Eth is still number 2 and it is holding there well ahead of the others, in total market capitalization, transactions per day,  usage, etc...

I don't see any competitor now that could potentialy take its place. NEO and EOS are the most obvious competitors, however EOS is highly bugged and experimental mainnet, and NEO is still strugling to prove itself.

Yeah, I agree with you. As it stands ETH is much better then Bitcoin yet it's still the 2nd in rank so if I think there is any other coin to overtake ETH then I'd think EOS stands a chance. The decentralized computing network offered by EOS definitely has its growing pains for now, and there are CPU and RAM issues abundant, but I think that given time and opportunity to grow, EOS will overtake ETH as number 2, particularly if Vitalik leaves.

Personally I have not seen ethereum's competitors for now. If EOS and NEO are the most powerful candidates to replace, I don't think that in the near future. This means that it still takes a long time. All require a truly real process.

I know a lot of people are into Eos, but I just don't like them... I would like to se ADA up there in the second place. I value the team and the product they are delivering. They have constant updates on the progress and are truly building smth to last in time. Not just some quick return

yes this is very possible because there are several competitors for ethereum especially since the emergence of EOS and I think EOS is its strongest competitor but I am not talking about its position in the CMC but I am talking about its role in cryptocurrency and ICO sustainability

These kind of question are normally been asked by potential investors that would really like to hit up some 100-1000x of growth just like on what happened to ETH when it was just starting and as you said there are already possible competitors but i dont really see that they would able to surpass ETH on a short period of time.Possible but wont really be a sure thing to happen yet we know on whats the capability of ETH platform.

yes EOS and NEO are now competing to be the best and it seems like I think if one of them will take the second place that is replacing ETH in the future because now I see ETH experiencing a very unnatural price decline
