BTC coin is fine. Improvements can be passive because the hardware gets better.
Hardware will change over time. Speeds increase. Maybe there will be new types of devices. Harddrives are already getting bigger. 2TB harddrives are not expensive at all.
Too much tinkering will ruin BTC. LN is not good at all. BTC has the unique status as the granddaddy, gold-standard coin. It gets the most media coverage, and it has 9 years of volunteer troubleshooting already.

Bitcoin needs to innovate drastically to stay up to date with the current market otherwise it risks the challenge of getting dethroned from the number one position, as there hasn't been much development happening on the bitcoin network apart from the lightning network. It needs to fix its high transaction fees problem at utmost priority.

it is true bitcoin when the most important of all things, be it from price, investment and transaction is very easy to do. nowadays a lot of new altcoins are very promising and make a lot of people interested, but many new altcoins have no potential, and lots of scams. so in my opinion bitcoin will not lose.
