From what I read when browsing the word "hodl" on the internet, it says that hodl came from a drunk user here in this forum that posted a topic saying that we should "hold" but because of being drunk, he mistakenly typed the term "hodl" and it became so popular that it is often used the same as hold but it is like a jargon to bitcoin community.

Дa, я тoжe cлышaл этy иcтopию и пpocтo пoдyмaл, чтo этo oшибкa oт cлoвa HOLD. пepвый paз вижy pacшифpoвкy cлoвa HODL

To Hodl literally means to keep your tokens in your wallet wisely.
Hodl and sell once there is a considerable rise in price of your token, don't wait for the biggest pump, thats greediness.

So Hodl in crypto means, keeping your tokens in your wallet without greediness,

Finally that word Hodl has a meaning, out of curiousity about Hodl thingy I research it in the dictionary but I can not find a meaning, and based on what I read when someone said Hodl so I get it that Hodl means Hold. Mellianial nowadays creating their own language even if that words has not written in the dictionary.

HODL is a term which is usually used to encourage people and tell them not to sell their coins. It actually means Hang on to dear life, meaning hold your coins and not sell them, despite certain challenges that they might be facing in the market. It also means holding your coin for a long term, and see them grow to a higher value.

Hodl is the divine word coined by a fellow member from this forum and is now being written in dictionaries. This could be called a drunken serendipity but has become a valuable contribution of this forum to english (and every) language.
Here's the original post of origin https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/i-am-hodling-375643

LOL...thanks for this.  I knew the rough origins as an honest misspell that the community ran with, but never was pointed back to the genesis post...that's stuff of legends.  HODL those coins strong, people.

HODL or HOLD, I think they are just the same  Grin For me, it just means to hold your coins for a long term even if the condition of the market is not good.

A lot of newcomers to altcoin think that HODL is another way of saying “hold.” Actually not, the truth is a little more entertaining.
It actually means “Hang On for Dear Life,” an old British expression that means if you give up or let go you will die. This usually refers to extreme situations such as sudden price fluctuations or collapses.

For your information 😊😊
Well that makes sense, but seriously??? I thought it was a slang or term that appeared for the very first time in this forum, if you google this term then many websites mentioned that this slang was originally a typo or misspelling of "hold" anyway I'm surprised this slang is very popular and the community has made a coin for it, take a look https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/hodlcoin/

It seems to me that everything has its time, I thought that the holders are always winning and held many tokens from last winter, but as it turned out it is not enough to be a holder, you also had to think with your brains, I'm sorry that I did not sell all my crypto when it was the right time.

Hodl means waiting, then waiting for the opportunity to sell when there is an increase in value. Basically that means buying low, selling high and you will hear it more than the traders and for us it is actually a law that cannot be violated.

This second interpretation sounds very interesting . once I hear the word hodl I always know is a bit more than hold. Just love the word.

Yes that's true.
As people above told, it is just kinf of memes, which came from ate mistake on the forum.
And now almost everyone , who involved in crypto uses HODL, but not HOLD Cheesy

And now it's not just limited to crypto but has spread to other economic markets like the stock market.
Even Investopedia has a detailed information about the word https://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/hodl.asp
And it's even listed as a word in the urban dictionary https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hodl

HODL means hold on for dear life. It is one of those sayings that is used in cryptocurrencies just like every other market has their own acronyms and abbreviations that are used with it. There are a lot more like FOMO which means fear of missing out and is used to describe when people rush to invest in the market when they see the prices going up.

Well, I like this more, hodl becomes the terminology of Bitcoin. This is an interesting thing. It makes me think that Bitcoin has its own culture. I like it. Hodl, interesting

H.O.D.L simply means hold on to dear life. It is a term used to tell people to hold their coins for a long term, even when it seems like prices are down and unfavorable. Hodlers are people who actually hold their coins, despite the market situations, and they might be regarded as coin faithfuls, if there is anything like that.

A simple pattern of hodl strategy
But you need to maintain your patience and never panic
Ensure to be slick and fast too when it’s profit time

Not at all. This comes from an old post, dated in 2013 I think, in which someone wrote about why he "hodled" because he was a very bad trader I seem to recall.
