I have been a member of the forum for a long time but learned something new today. Remember, if you have a question do not hesitate to ask otherwise how are you supposed to know the asnwer (though it might be prudent to research to see if the question has already been answered).

Thank you all that have taken the time to post there, I appreciate the replies. Now that everything has become clear, I am locking the thread.

Goodnight, ohh Leo!!! 🦅
What is the specific difference between "Staff" and "Moderator"?

I am fairly certain I understand the tasks carried out by moderators (and global moderators) but I do not know what staff do and what their functions with the forum actually are. If you know, let us all know.
I think every user accounts that are assigned a designated job in here are collectively Called "staff members". Something brings in the differential -- which is the what job and board they're assigned for.

Administrators are predominantly the head; they could addup, develop or remove whatever function that seems disturbing.
The global moderators are just the same as MODERATORS themselves, except they've got vast control over different boards.
The moderators are designated just for specific boards as well as the staffs. (basically the local boards)

Besides staff and global moderators, there are terms called Cryptios and Mod-privileged
That's also a good point. I almost forgot about them since I barely see the term cryptios

Global moderators on the other hand, will show as "Global moderators" everywhere, and have permission to manage multiple boards.
If I'm not wrong then global moderators have the privilege and permissions to delete posts of any board while other moderators are not allowed to delete threads from multiple boards, but they could delete the threads from their own local boards, or from the boards that they moderate.

It's not going to be an easy task to reach global moderation rank as for that one has to be active on the forum for long term and that member has to report posts/threads from various boards. I don't know if I'm right or wrong but the ones who are good at doing that might get chance to be part of the global moderation team.

Besides staff and global moderators, there are terms called Cryptios and Mod-privileged. You can see the whole list on this thread Forum's admins/ global moderators/ staffs. There is another term mentioned there which is Ex-staffs. I hope you already know the meaning of Ex means, there are no longer staff now but before they were.

Here is what I think.
Staff: These are people hired by the admin, and the admin might be paying them also. Once I read a post on this forum that was very old, and on that thread, the admin was sharing the expenditure list of the forum, and staff's salary was also mentioned there but in total.
Moderator: or World moderator, is a person who can perform actions assigned to them, I don't know if they are being payed or not, but there duty is to manage the forum post and spam wise, like if a person spreading spamy post then we have to report it to mods, and they will deal with it, while the staff might be responsible for various purposes, like some might be managing the UI, backend, or whatever.
Cryptios: These people are the ones who will help you to recover your account. In the list I gave above, there are two person and they can help you to recover your account if lost.

I have my forum. I don't have a staff function for any of my members; I only have global moderators. They depend on the function delegated by the Administrator. Here is a glimpse of my global moderators and what I have assigned to them.

Note: this is the default SMF since Bitcointalk is coded they have different function but the idea still the same the Administrator controls everything and he can create member groups and assign specific task on this forum.

The function of the staffs are numerous and also varies with the position. Generally, all staffs are moderators and by this they handle issues that violate the forum rules and to ensure there is orderliness in the forum. When a post or a user is reported to the moderators, it goes to the staffs who handle them. I think some some staff also have the ability to ban accounts violating the forum rules.

For those assigned to moderate specific boards, they have power to delete substandard posts, move topics to archive or off-topics or outrightly lock them when the need arises.

I see one user can be displayed as Staff and can be displayed as Moderator.
Seems you are mixing things up here. Like many people already commented,  moderator = staff. All moderators' names are displayed as staff except those displayed as Global moderators that have permission across boards.

I guess Staffs have less rights to moderate in boards they are not Moderators. Correct me if I am wrong.
You are right, the only exception are the Global moderators that have no limits to board they can moderate.

I notice that they are only displayed as Moderators in boards they are moderators. In boards they are not moderators, they will be displayed as Staffs. I see they are the same, forum staffs, but difference is visually in different boards only.

It's as mentioned above.

Staff = Moderator.

You will see me as "Staff" here but as "moderator" in the Arabic localboard (or whatever board I'm assigned to).

Global moderators on the other hand, will show as "Global moderators" everywhere, and have permission to manage multiple boards.

My conclusion is that staff are moderators. Although theymos will be the one that can give good answer to this. I think all moderators are seen as staff but some other people may not be a moderator but have works that they are doing that theymos employed them for but I do not think so. I think theymos later call moderators that he chooses later as staff, example is OmegaStarScream. Moderators elected during OmegaStarScream are called staff on their profile but moderator on each of their post. Recently theymos called the new moderators as staff both on their profile and while posting you will see it as staff now.

As far i know the only difference from showing on Accounts " Moderator " and " Staff " are the boards.

Local Boards show for that Moderator the " Moderator Role " and for other Moderators here only the " Staff Role "
You will get  Staff Role when you posting outside your Local Board.

Correct me if im wrong , but thats what i understand and have seen.
