With a 1000 altcoins, I'm afraid FTC just lost out to newer, shinier alternatives with better names.

Crypto is becoming like a Warhol world of "15 minutes of fame". I think the days of any coin shining for a longish period are over.

BTC and LTC are the exceptions for the time being, at least in terms of they will be around for some time to come.

There is too much choice, and even with the imminent departure of scrypt (not including LTC), people will just clone the others. So no difference will be made, except that a small number may very well find niches. Given I have an opinion on everything, it will be coins that are largely under the radar, but with good developers who view their coin as a project to perfect.

This is the smartest thing I've read on here in a while!  I believe that the huge flood is also partly an intential attack on BTC.  Let's call it the dilution attack.

Back in the day (1-2 yrs ago Wink ) if a coin was released that didn't provide some sort of innovation, it was shunned and would die a quick death. Now, prevailing greed, along with the dilution attack make up almost the entire community.

The quote above mentiones "too much choice" but is this true?

Since most of you still use Windows, let's examine this from the perspective of Windows 7.

If we equate BTC with famous original Windows 7, what would [coin of the day]coin be???
Windows 7 Now with green icons!!!
Windows 7 Including support for courier fonts!!!
Windows 7 Now with TCP/IP support!!!
Windows 7 Includes new wallpaper!!!
Windows 7 ZOMG Version - Includes a link to the internet!!!!1!!!2.

The end result is, you'll buy one of those copy versions, just so you can potentially trade it in for famous original Windows 7, which includes the option to do all those things anyway?!

My point is..... Many of you who are jumping from non innovative coin to coin, are actually working toward the destruction of Bitcoin, and innovation in the community in general. Of course, as long as there is a buck to be made, you'll continue to do the same thing.

So, the  tl;dr version is, carry on folks Wink

Im not sure thats really true ... there are new people joining the forum maybe not as many as there are on here but its a steady stream.
There are easily enough people active to keep the coin going and progress on some great projects.

I think the new algo is really going to make a huge difference. Once we can come out from litecoins shadow we will be able to forge a better path.

Nothing really happened to it, that's largely the problem. One big plus FTC had was the active community/forums but that seems to have dwindled to next to nothing very fast. Maybe it'll have it's day again but I'm very sceptical.

They left here and started their own forum, that was the beginning of the end, no new blood on there.  That said FTC is still profitable to mine for about 5-10% of any given day.

FTC ist alive and has a busy community.

If you follow their forum, you will notice, that a lot of good things are on their way.

It seems people over there talk about their activities only, after a goal is archived, rather than making noise, before something is done.

It's kind of gotten to be the FTC way, we don't brag and boast about being the most awesome coin with the awesomest projects out there. Sometimes we make to little noise of ourselves, but at the same time I think  it kind of differentiates us from others in a good way when everybody else is having some kind of boasting war, trying to come up with the best and most attractive features for the moment in order to get 15 minutes of fame (so the people with invested money can dump at a good price, make a profit and then leave the coin to dry).

I'm deffo partial in this case tho being a clear FTC fanboy Wink

this happened https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-united-open-currency-solutions-unocs-feather-phenix-and-worldcoin-254406 a while ago caused a lot of issues

great community should just keep on improving

I think a lot of people lost interest with the whole phoenixcoin (I think), worldcoin, feathercoin initiative

is that what it was

cannot remember right but there was some sort of combined effort with feathercoin and two others and the whole thing turned into a farce

This UNOCS Hype came from a known "Scammer" Justabitoftime who just scammed the NXT community. Feathercoin had to experience it in first place so we had no clue he is that evil. But NXT should have known it better.

And yes it should have been Feathercoin Worldcoin and Phoenixcoin.

feathercoin has a strong dev community working through some very interesting projects, but as will all of these things a lack of people makes things take longer than intended.

But over recent weeks a number of new guys have joined and things are starting to pick up again, taking some of the more simple projects and moving them forwards.

And as always the guys get together on a monthly bases round and about the UK June they went up to Birmingham and July they are going back to their home town of Oxford for another get together. Further detail can be found here https://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?/topic/7375-oxford-meet-up-26th-july-2014/ The Oxford Blue is a great little pub that does fantastic food and beer, and allows you to spend both FTC and BTC to pay your bill Cheesy

FTC if far from dead. I guess that's only Litecoin fanboys talking...who hate Feathercoin, just because...
Lots of altcoins appeared in the meantime, and lots of them have disappeared already... FTC is still here, and it's here to stay. Current value is pretty much result of manupulation by whales and haters who dumped it on purpose. Let's not forget that few months ago whales bought more than 1000 BTC worth at price of 0.0004, let's wait and see what happens with that.

I don't understand the hate for this coin specifically. In my opinion, it's ok to bash on obvious scam coins, with weird IPO schemes, instantly dumped by own devs - and I want those coins to go away, because they hurt entire crypto community and trust in crypto in general. As for others - I see lots of space for them to coexist. BTC is the king (unless something really dramatic happens with it), you want Litecoin to be No.2? Ok, let it be, why not?

the only thing keeping it alive is btc-e.com

I think its pretty short sighted to rule this coin out. Development has never stopped even during the low as the price fell and many of the community left following shiny new coins of the week. But Feathercoin is still here and a lot of those coins of last week are this weeks chip wrappers. Feathercoin has been going for over a year and the team behind it is as strong as ever.

i know its been awhile but i wondered what ever happened to the feathercoin community? or the coin for that matter, does not seem like its taking off right now?

FTC is regaining strenght while working hard, with huge amount of good news and new algorithm behind the corner.
Currently FTC is heavily oversold which makes it one of the best investment opportunities at btc-e right now.
For more details please read carefully this post with all the news and do not miss my price chart analysis.

+FTC multipool is ready and working from yeasterday!

I thought it had been delisted from BTC-e. Obviously I was wrong.

But anyway, the name works against it.

And if the new algo is just a copy of another algo, then there is no value added.

I think it's dead, and no offence meant by that,

It's not Scrypt-N or X11, something much different.

It's true that FTC have stagnated since the last period of glory and high values. It's however by no means dead yet.
I believe that the biggest mistake we've done in the FTC community so far is (as many have pointed out before) to believe that FTC will just magically step out of the LTC and BTC shadow. Of course this hasn't happened, and the still active members in the community have realized this now.

There's a new algo around the corner and a couple of (imho) interesting projects being discussed. Will these be the factors that take FTC out from the shadows? It's hard to tell if it's enough. But I'm willing to bet that we'll at least see a rise in value when the new algo lands.

FTC is very much alive, we've however taken a lot of damage by not doing anything at all really, and lost a lot of community members in the process. That's a mistake we're not doing again Smiley

so...let the trolling and mockery of my beliefs begin Wink

it's dead dude face the facts

24 hour volume is $ 9,653

the coin should of died right when Chinacoin died I'm surprised people are still talking about it.

Feathercoin is still alive but there is a huge lack of interest atm.

So I would propose you to invest in a new coin.

I've decided (my personal decision) to invest some BTC in SIM - today was its official start and you can already trade SIM-coins on its own exchange like dgex for NXT was before.  Wink

And your hyperbole and exaggerations are funny. I don't think a crappy ATM and algo are going to do much for this coin at the moment, but I get it, say something that isn't pure puffery and the bagholders and fanboys will get upset.
