One thing that I always liked of Dogecoin is that is has faster confirmation times than Bitcoin. Another thing is that DOGE is extremely cheap which makes it a good coin for tipping.  Roll Eyes

No Doge hate here.  Just pointing out one of the reasons for its decline in price and popularity.  Last I heard any hype on Doge was the race car thing. Been quiet since. Devs and community cooled off I guess.

Besides, I appreciate the lack of doge-shilling so its all good.

Dogecoin is one of best crypto coins in the market. There are a lot of sites using it, and also people like it  Grin

Dogecoin devs did not do doge bagholders any favours when they decided not to cap the number of doge produced causing the price to crash and pissing off the community.

It's been downhill ever since.

Funny thing is, our inflation rate's lowest of any of the big coins at the moment.

And I don't see how that decision pissed off the miners...

Dogecoin is probably the best cryptocurrency out there, from a currency perspective.

1. Fast block times (~1 minute) = fast transactions (near instantaneous confirmation)
2. Worth less than 1 cent = no need for annoying decimal places
3. Already accepted by several vendors, sites & marketplaces
4. Creative, voluntary community willing to make things happen (Jamaican bobsled team, NASCAR car)

Its not dead, failed or a scam. Its just not very new anymore, hence its hard to get this board excited about it.

We also tend to be trying to pull in a different market; we're not out to convert the converted, we're after the 99.9+% of people who aren't in cryptocurrency yet. We're genuinely a lot more interested in making a functioning currency and payment network, rather than a get rich scheme.

I do in moments of frustration consider launching a "for money" coin, but bottom line if we believed in that model, we'd have been Bitcoin devs instead.

Excellent points.  The confirmation times with btc can be atrocious and I do like not having to deal with the decimal poop as well.

as others have said the doge community spread out into the newer coin pumps and are now promoting/pushing random "better" and "anonymous" coins.  their efforts are not on doge as even they realize that ship has sunk.

Many people have dumped Dogecoin for bitcoin and other alts. Nobody is hyping Dogecoin unless Dogecoin can reduce its supply.

Why no threads on Doge? I have liked the coin from the beginning. Any news?

We're posting news in the announcement thread as there's major stuff to announce. 1.10 beta 1 (based on Bitcoin Core 0.11, so includes block pruning etc.) is out a few weeks back, beta 2 is waiting on tracking down an issue with minimum fees. I've been working with bitcoinj's (the library Multibit HD and the Android wallet are based on) developers to add extension hooks for altcoin support, so dogecoinj (the previous forked library) can be replaced with a lightweight wrapper library (libdohj), which in turn means we can produce Android and Multidoge HD wallets much faster (and keep them up to date more easily).

Also generally getting dug into BIP 32/BIP 39 support in Bitcoin Core (I know, altcoin dev contributes to parent coin, shock horror!), so as HD wallets become widely available for Doge we'll also have good recovery tools. HD wallets are a huge improvement in usability because if you have the original wallet (which most software/hardware presents as a sequences of words, so you can write them down easily), the whole wallet can be restored from that seed rather than requiring constant backups.
