a very unlikely scenario Smiley but in this case you have to think if the money worth the risk to get in jail for a long long time
if you try to move them or sell them , you are , most likely , getting traced and arrested eventually
in the best scenario case that you sell the coins and enjoy the ill gotten money , karma is going to get you sooner or later
I'd contact the hacked exchange and  arange the return of the coins , hoping for some sort of a reward , but if there is no reward , so be it
at least I'll have my conscience clean and sleep well at nights

Ok you are an old member of this forum and you have staked your address, so you can recover it in case your account was hacked.

and you also did a KYC from airdrops, bounty campaigns, and various exchanges.

And on all these activities, you'll only use one address

Then one day you woke up and found out you received 10000 Bitcoin

from a wallet coming from one hacker's wallet who just hacked one big exchange..

And so many people know who you are where you are located and your status in life
because you are using only one address...

So what do you think will happen to you now..

This might very fictional but the possibility is there.

What I'm trying to emphasize is to avoid KYC and using only one address.
Yeah pretty unrealistic but hey, who knows. It might happen to anyone. So here is the situation. You use only one address (idk why would you do that) and have gone through all KYC shits, staked your address and what not. So you probably are an honest guy. So, all you would do is return those coins to the proper people/exchange. You don't want to run away with those money since you will get caught anyways. Return it and they might reward you with something. Few coins vs risking jail time? Few coins please.

What I'm trying to emphasize is to avoid KYC and using only one address.

It depends who you are, and what your intentions are.

Scenario 1:
You would go to police asap and give them your private keys, because you are afraid hackers will kill you or you would go to prison for life.

Scenario 2:
If you are not greedy, you can talk to exchange and return them Bitcoins,
and maybe you even receive a percentage reward from that exchange ( but don't expect if it is Binance exchange Tongue)

Scenario 3:
If you are greedy, and want to risk it all, you can just say you lost your private keys...
and wait for years to move Bitcoins from there to mixer.

Scenario 4:
If you are super greedy you can change your identity, move Bitcoins to mixer, and live in N.Korea, Cuba or some other remote island country.

Scenario 5:
You can also be Crypto Robin Hood and donate all Bitcoin to all Bitcointalk members (excluding newbies and banned account)

To be serious now,
it is very important not to use only one Bitcoin address.
Any of described scenarios are just a fraction of what could happen...
and I am also not a fan of KYC, so avoid that if you can .... or look at Binance safu case...

but you can just tell the truth that you dont steal the money and you only recieved it unexpectedly  . you dont also know if the sender of those coins is a hacker or a good guy  .

if ever i found out that the funds came from hacking , i will help investigate and trace the address of the sender to see if i can found evidence  .  then i will turn over the btc to its original owner  , maybe i could be lucky and recieve some reward for doing a good deed  .

I don’t know what you mean by that but You want people to prevent from using single wallet and not engaging in KYC because?

Do you mean that we must be interested in that said amount ?just because someone sent 10000 bitcoin from a hackers wallet means if we did not use single wallet there is a chance that we can just have the bitcoin and Walk away?

Remember this is not our coins and since it came from hack meaning there are many victims suffering from the case,we must return them back and help victims take their investments

This is a problematic situation, honestly
Wealth is a problem; it might be right for the name
I decided to return the bitcoin amount because I did not want to deal with the authorities, the police, and the court. That's boring
I prefer the results of hard work and grateful for the blessings God gave me

You and your family's peace of mind, safety and security is PRICELESS.

What good is $100 million if it compromises you and your family's peace of mind, safety and security?

I'd send it back to the exchange that got hacked.
You know that some people do not think of the consequences of their actions before they act because they are no longer GOD fearing or maybe because they have probably sold their soul to the devil, a real man would actually return the money and then maybe he could be compensated for his kind gesture.

I have seen a situation where someone who is a very poor person in my country return such amount of money after seeing it at the back of his vehicle from a passenger that sat there, and after he returned it, he was given a post as the financial secretary of the organization after the boss head of what he did, and that changed his life forever. In everything that we do, we have to always have conscience, that was someone’s sweat and a mistake that could destroy the person, so best I actually to return the money.

if the wrong Bitcoin enters my wallet that much, then I will return some to its owner  Cheesy

I would contact the exchange and send the coins straight back. Job jobbed.

It's not as if you could do much with it anyway. The moment you yourself send it to an exchange you're getting nailed for it.
you will send back.. I think is impossible lol

in this age, I'm very pessimistic that someone will return everything in its entirety, returning just a few Bitcoins will most likely happen  Cheesy

You own the pen
This is the worst scenario of a Bounty Hunter especially those Hunters who use their real Identity just for the sake of KYC.
This is the risk they are facing right now of course if you received that money on your wallet you need to have a good reason to tell the authority or else you are doom and maybe received a life sentence in the prison.

In this case, we need to be careful on what site we will give our Identity to. this scenario will happen possibly like the Lotto odds before it happens to us we need to be careful now because it's too late to be careful when you are already in the prison.

Erase such thinking from your mind first and forget about the market or every one that know you for the wallet , who care who they think about me , that fact rain I didn't steal any more or hack any exchange and seeing such amount in my wallet is a jombo to me and got to roll with the flex in life to enjoy myself , at least the exchange loss it all which no one care about and for the hacker will never do such mistake.

Once a man, twice a child!
First off: This is a mere wishful thinking. It's even difficult to mistakenly send someone 1btc let alone the humongous amount you mentioned. Besides, if that scenario you painted happens it will only point to the fact that the hacker has a relationship with the owner of the staked address here. It can't be a mere coincidence. And if that be the case that means the hacker is, after all, not smart. To cap it all up - A good name is better than illegal riches. Peace of mind is prime to good health.

I will totally reject a surprise amount of bitcoin from a source I dont know about because I can't expose myself with threats around. There's something more to this life than money. I don't want to be rich and popular without rest of mind.
You can't reject any Bitcoins that's sent to your address but you can return them to the sender or to the exchange. If I suddenly receive an amount that huge i'd talk to the owner of the exchange that got hacked and give them back.

Then give it back to the same address that gives to you, simple solution. It means that you really don't own that BTC and make sure that you're not capable of hacking an exchange.
You meant to say the exchange right ? because sending the amount back would mean you'll give it to the hacker since it came from his wallet and not the exchange.

That might be really scary and exciting in the same time. Because well, it's such a big amount of money, and if i were tempted, then i might be quickly exchange them all to cash and be rich lol.
But then my private information is known already, so i won't bother to risk my life, and i will feel bad for those whose bitcoin got stolen so i prefer to give those btc back really soon. I think if i kept it in my wallet then the hackers will try to hack into my wallet and get their btc and i don't want my wallet to be hacked.
Anyway the suggestion to use more than one wallet is fine but i don't really feel like needing it but maybe i will reconsider it for safety reasons.

Even if you are tempted the risk is too high to retain that tainted Bitcoin, this very risky you must establish that you are not part of  the team that hack the exchange and also establish that hacker just want to deceive authorities, but if you do not have a bad reputation or bad cases of hacking, they will eventually find you innocent.

Really don't understand what you are trying to say. Why would a hacker send you some Bitcoins and then that hacker would hack your bitcoin wallet on your computer to steal them back to himself. Why even send you the stolen coins in the first place.

And exchanging them to cash and being rich is not that easy since those coins are tained and you can't just send them to your Coinbase account and wonder why they cancelled your withdraw to your bank account.

You'll be unaware that you're now suddenly popular in the internet one day if you didn't manage to give a remedy to the situation you're currently in. It would still be manageable if the funds were from a certain exchange that you would usually read in the news daily. You can just have connection or contact to that exchange and show proof that you're clean from this hack and the hacker thankfully sent it to the wrong address.

Since I was the one that started this thread, I am thinking of the right defense for this, you will still be a suspect and they will think you are just trying to escape prosecution, so you have to prove your innocence in court, it's like this you are caught with a guy that just died from a stab and you happen to own the knife, of course, you are innocent, but the killer use your knife to stab the victim, so you are still a suspect.

If you received that 10,000 bitcoin accidentally, then send it to different wallet addresses to untrace the path, or yeah like the user above me suggested, a bitcoin mixer will be helpful in case of like this. But in reality, since if ever you knew that the 10,000 btc was from the hacker. Aren't you feel nervous, fear, guilty?

A reality scenario i have encountered last month, I have known someone in some site who received 0.4 btc and he never withdraw it since he has felt that it came from a hacker. And it's true, the admin said it was from a hacker and they get back the 0.4 btc that was sent to his account. (It was a gambling site) at least, he felt unguilty about it.

since they know where you are and can track the transaction to you. all you can do is give it back and provide proof that you don't have the capability
to hack a major exchange site. also they can't prove that you are the one who hacked the exchange site. you can just give the o'l "Didn't do it" if they
ever decided to involve the police. also the court will just drop the case because the opponent lacks evidence to pin you that you are the one who hacked
the site.
Yes if that ever happens then the best thing that you could do is return the money from the exchange to clear your name.
Besides who would risk their life for a short fun and excitement surely when something like that happens there would be some people who would gain interest on you and it would put your life at stake.
