Currently the most profitable coin is Electroneum. The difficulty is low, because this is a new coin and you can get more payout than case of monero.
Here is a link to a reliable pool: http://etnpool.sytes.net
And they have a comfortable miner software for CPU mining. I'm using it for 2 days and it's working stable with appropriate hash rate.

Mostly Cpu has nearly zero profitability considering electricity price.
These days XMR price has increased, it made CPU to be part of mining. Try XMR mining.

I'm mining Monero with my CPU. I've only been using my CPU for a few days but it's going pretty well - better than expected. I was only mining with my GPU and initially wasn't expecting anything from the CPU.

its depend on what type of your cpu because today to mining altcoin its need high spec of cpu and vga. but there is many altcoin with low difficulty and its still promising to mining. like bcn, xdn, and the other and you can search on cryptocoinsinfo.com and you can learn and know almost all type of altcoin. after this you should pick a coin with low difficulty but its good to mining and then you  can start to mining the coins.

I have a a couple of Godavari APU's and they are good for mining Monero. Just do not expect to earn a lot daily as you will still have to factor in your power consumption before your RoI. It nets me a daily of around .001 btc if converted after all the costs factored out which is for me a pretty good deal. If you are expecting something higher, I suggest you get an ASIC miner and just mine bitcoins from it.

Tell that to the folks running Threadripper or Epyc CPUs.

 9-)

The huge hashrates you see out of some Xeon based machines are usually multi-CPU and need to be divided by the number of CPUs - then factor in that any Xeon that manages more hashrate than the AMD Ryzen 1800x is a MUCH MORE EXPEN$IVE CPU that on a cost-basis comparison should be getting compared to the Threadripper line or the Epyc.

On the other hand, some older used E5 Xeon based machines can be had pretty cheap for the hashrate - just watch the power consumption....

Yes, some old xeon machines are will worth for cpu mining.

Someone has a rack of Winterfell servers up for sale - I almost pulled the trigger on it, but when I checked the power requirements I found it needs 3 x 30amp 220 circuits - which I don't have available in my current place.

 Oh well.

what is a good coin to mine with cpu? I have 3x  amd radeon A9  cpu
Two coins are CPU mineable today with perhaps little earns.
It's depends of wich CPUs and AMD CPUs are not the bests for mining.

You can also mine with your browser

https://jsecoin.com/platform/?lander=1&utm_source=referral&utm_campaign=aff3648&utm_content=

It's pre-ICO so it can be profitable to mine a little bit right now before high difficulty

can you please explain how?
