Many altcoins now are going down in value Bitcoin wise, but some, even though they are depreciating in value against Bitcoin are still ahead when calculating by USD. So it all depends on what your end game is and what you entered the market in. If you entered the market in Bitcoin and you saw your stash go down, then of course you might be losing a lot. If you entered say the market with 10k USD but it's now worth 20k USD, then you are still ahead. I think with all this upsurge in BTC value and volatility, we all need to re establish our strategic end game better. Some people of course have become rich over the last few years, some of us are still aspiring to make a retirement nest egg.
Alts seem to fall if bitcoin rises fast and also if bitcoin falls fast. The only time they really seem to go up is when bitcoin rises slowly or has sideways movement, that's when people get into alts in hope of getting more btc since all the main trading pairs are btc to alt trading pairs.
Ask yourself is 10-20% daily increase in BTC sustainable? Does BTC have a superior technology compared to the various competitors in the market that could justify these gains? If you are not able to answer yes to these questions then perhaps this could be a trend that is coursed by FOMO. This is unsustainable both long-term and short-term.
Everytime you sell an altcoin in the XXX/BTC pairings then you are adding fuel to the fire.
Buying altcoins now however could end up in a long-term hold though so be prepared for that.

the main reason behind the fallen price of altcoin is because bitcoin price increases too high and people move from altcoin to bitcoin. but if bitcoin price makes a correction like now, the altcoin can start to rise again although not for a long time. in a few hours ago, bitcoin price gets down for a while and makes altcoin can breathe again but now the price seems to be down again. many of altcoin including coin based ERC20 is down although not all of the coin getting down. soon if bitcoin price is stable in one range, the altcoin will be back to increase.
I think it's gold rush fever. People holding alts are selling them to buy BTC, causing alt value to drop and BTC to rise. Which could mean an even worse crash in the future. I'm going to try and increase my alts holding because when BTC starts to drop, they will try to trade into alts as an escape. Causing the price of Alts to rise.

Yes there's a lot of ERC20 tokens that the prices fall after listed on exchange, and was not able to recover yet. But what I do is I wait or hold those coins for a couple of months or sometimes it does pump after exactly a month and go back down so you just have to put on your notes or your calendar to check if it does pump up after a month or more.
It's because the powers of dumpers

Shifting from cryptocurrency into another is the main reason why pumping Bitcoin and dumping Altcoins and causes network into heavy congested. That's why Bitcoin confirmations these days are days apart.
They are turning with bitcoin because of the sudden increase of price and there are rumors going on that it could reach 20000$ so they are aiming for the profit. Do not worry alts it will recover soon
Indeed, Bitcoin will give more profit than holding thousands of Altcoins. A single Bitcoin can give you hundreds of dollars a day than thousands of Altcoins that couldn't even give you tens of dollars.

the reason why the altcoin price gets low because of dumpers, they sell their tokens and not hold. Once the supply is very low the price will become low. The pump of bitcoin also affects the price of the altcoins.
That's what Ethereum is struggling heavy congestion this week due to huge queue of transactions dumping Altcoins -> buying Ethereum -> dumping Ethereum -> buying Bitcoin -> happy face.
That's what I did this past week.

Actually yes, that's what I did becau we're doing the math.
2 Bitcoins will give us more profit than holding a thousand Altcoins, within a single month we'll get more profit than Altcoins.
In my own opinion, due to insane Bitcoin price surge this month, it causes people dump their Altcoins and shift into Bitcoin.
There's a lot of reasons but as what I did this past week, I sell all my Altcoins and buy Bitcoin and that's what makes me happy as I did because Bitcoin offers big profit difference than holding Altcoins.

Its because of the current bitcoin bullrun,as at december 10 and december 18 bitcoin will be listed on chicago market and somewhere else(forgot where ).Its same thing that happend during the bitcoin forks,people where selling their altcoin positions(even with loss)so they could fuel bitcoin price.People think that wall street crew will pump bitcoin even higher(over 20k$)but dont realise that they have way more money then current crypto is worth and if they choose to push bitcoin price down to 2k they can since they have the money for it and still it is worth it for them when they can buyback it at lower prices.A lot of money came in to crypto from people that aint really good with trading and when fear kicks in they will be the first ones to sell

Absolutely it is due to the reason of the increase in the price of the bitcoin . This is a usual thing we can see in the cryptocurrency market that when any big coin pump high then the price of the another coins get down , specially the case of the bitcoin is really unique that when it's market small increase then the value of the altcoins get down .Maybe because of Bitcoin price. It may carry on in future if bitcoin price with increasing same rate.
Here the reason to get down is because people sell thier altcoins for the bitcoin , increase in the price of the bitcoin clearly shows that the demand is increasing and to complete the demand of the bitcoin people sell thier altcoins and make money .
Well currently price is increasing of the bitcoin , and we are facing big loss in the altcoins , so we should hold those coins otherwise we will loss everything due to panic sell , here already I made 0.06 btc loss in 3 days , hope the market of the bitcoin will get stable and I will recover my loss .

First reason yes because the bitcoin price increase so high make altcoin have no power anymore.
But special for altcoin that have been exist for any longer and stay in top ten on coinmarketcap, the price following increase the bitcoin price.
