On this subject, mostly.

Is there a list somewhere of all/most coins, pools, etc.?

coinchoose.com looks like the best list of coins I have seen so far (been using it with bitcoin for some time).

I have selected litecoin as my 1st alternate, but my research was limited to recommendations in a couple IRC channels to this point.

Except Litecoin, Worldcoin seems really promising. It's very liked by the community, and well traded.

PowerCoin hands down. 30 seconds confirmation time. Asic mining  resistant. Supported by bigger community.

+1 PowerCoin FTW

Hm powercoin, ....okey where can I find a good pool?

Gifts if you want too support my struggle in starting with PWC Cheesy...thanks

I mine my coin of choice (Bitcoin) with my GPU's, and mine YAC with CPU's.

Bitcoin is the daddy coin (maybe not the most profitable for mining, but, mining supports a coin, and I support Bitcoin), and I also like to use up all available resources, so I mine YAC at the same time (YAC is the only CPU-only coin ATM)

Stick with LTC or mine according to:
http://dustcoin.com/mining
and
http://www.coinchoose.com/

(Currently it should be BitBar.)

After mining it for a day, convert your profits to BTC (or LTC if you are a believer).
