Electrum wallet in my opinion holds the top spot because of its popularity  though I will have to side with MultiBit wallet as I like the support utility for hardware wallets such as Keepkey and trezor wallet which offer extra security.

best is a wrong word to use. it all depends on the usage you want to get out of the wallet. for example you may want full verification and not rely on a third party so you go with a full node client.

but if you want light weight client and have trouble with the full node and can accept the relying on third party part, then you choose an SPV client.

then if you want maximum security you go with paper wallet or cold storage in general.

of if you want to use bitcoin on your phone, then there is a whole different story!

and for each of these there are multiple wallets to choose, and you can easily install each of them, work a little and see if you liked it.

bitcore orginal and official bitcoin dekstop wallet

there is no such thing as "original" or "official" bitcoin wallet.

A large number of people have advised to join electrum so I am going to download the electrum and will start to use it for my desktop for storing my bitcoins. In the future I may join some other after I know more about the desktop wallets.

It's nice that you decided already to use electrum I know you will not regret using this desktop wallet since I never face any issues about this wallet. Just make sure you are using strong anti-virus to protect your device from malwares.

I am also voting for to use electrum wallet, that is the best choice for you and as you are not that much expert in that wallets so you have to rely on bitcoin core but later if you feel the need then can try that one too.

Just like what answers have Electrum wallet is the best so far.
I setup a standard wallet with ver 2.7.18 and so far its running
smooth with just a few minor errors which is not Electrum fault
but by network connections. The UI is so simple and provides
you a lot of tools you can find on other wallets. I tried to download
Bitcore core but you need to sync the 100 GB blockchain so I stopped using it.

I am using electrum desktop wallet and find it quite easy as well as it is trusted by community. You can try them however if you can download whole blockchain, than bitcoin core will always be best choice.

Bitcoin Core is too heavy and i dont think anyone need to download the whole block chain on your system unless or until, you are developing something related to blockchain etc. I am using the Electrum wallet and its nice easy and dont consume any space on your system. The interface is simple and great and i will recommend it to be the number 1 wallet.

I have been using online wallets all long and would also like a desktop wallet. The only problem I have is that I am using Windows RT on surface and it does not allow installing of other programs. I will appreciate if someone familiar with this can suggest a better one.

I want to download a desktop wallet and want to know that which one is the best of all wallet so that I will not need to change or replace it and will continue to use it for lifetime. Please suggest me only one with best features
We usually have more choices. But the thing is if you are affordable to run 100 GB full blockchain means you can go with bitcoin core else light weight wallets like Electrum will be handy with features rich experiences. Secondly, what are your requirements if you list out (like mobility) , we may suggest accordingly.

Because only allowed to suggesting one wallet, so I will recommend multibit HD. Multibit HD is very easy to use and fast so I comfortable using this wallet. Besides the more important multibit HD possible to use Trezor (BTC wallet protects from viruses, in addition to any transaction must be confirmed with the help of your separate gadget) and Tor (provide additional anonymity).

Bitcointalk suggest Bitcoincore which they link it on the news above this forum. I don't use it though because it will take hours for it to sync. Waited for it the whole day and was disappointed. I'm not sure who's fault that is when I tried installing it. Maybe because I do have slow internet connection but then I'm not getting much problem when using electrum so its way better for me.  It syncs well which I use to bet in binary trading on secondstrade.

I have not tried most of the desktop wallets out there but I have used multibit which is a multi-langauge wallet, supports  major operating systems and does a good job with encryption of data on your pc.

A good wallet should give control over the private keys , as long as It does that then the other security measures should be taken by you such as not downloading anything you find on the internet , mostly cracked applications or anything you don't know the source of.
I will go and suggest using Electrum as a desktop wallet , It's open source and the development is very active , It works on multiple OS and should work for ever as long as there are servers running. If people ever stop running electrum servers which is unlikely , you could make your own and connect your client to it.

The best one I think is electrum wallet, with seed pass phrase for recover easily your addresses.
You don't need to download all blockchain, fee's size settled by yourself.. so I think there is not a big one than this.
Also you can use with a lot of platform... So definitely this is the best choice

Well for me is electrum desktop wallet as its very simple, fast and it is a lightweight wallet for your PC you don't need to download the whole blockchain just like core, and sometimes it took you forever to load the blocks. But all desktop wallet I guess is really secured, it will depend on how careless the user is if something wrong happen.
