Somebody needs to develop a legitimate, serious altcoin index and an associated index fund!

Couple of years ago, I started doing it.  I have some ideas about re-balancing (kind of a big deal, has to be done far more often than the re-balance S&P 500, for example) and cap-weighting versus price-weighting.  I just don't have the technical skillz to pull together the proper APIs and such.

It would be interesting to see how such an index would fare (mostly not well, I fear) and also I think there would be some demand for an index fund or an ETF-style basket of alts.
I like this idea. Can you Kickstart this?

I only have some stakes in LTC, BTC and DOGE... Those are the only ones i believe to have a really high chances of staying around...
These are the strongest ones in my opinion too. Bitcoin of course, Litecoin as the first alt coin, and Doge because it is just fun and friendly.

I hold Clam, ETH and BTC for sure. Have some clams invested at Just-dice. Trading with ETH at yobit and gambling with bitcoin. I wont buy other coins in the near future cause holding more than 3 crypto currency will make me crazy. Cant manage it frankly.

2014: DASH, MAID, XCP, NXT, DOGE
2016: LISK, WAVES
I actually buy and hold.
I only keep enough BTC on hand to invest in altcoins (I like to live on the edge). I also believe the bitcoin monopoly will be successfully challenged. I think in the future we'll have a Visa/AMEX/MasterCard kind of world.

Give a little Monero in your portfolio a try.    You can't go wrong by having a small but oh my little share.

Hey everyone, what do your investments look like right now?

Personally, I'm holding GameCredits long term, as well as a bit of NXT. I've got some deposit money tied up in the ICOs for Waves and Elastic. I'm also trading a few altcoins over at yobit: CREVA, POST, VIP, and 007. I have some Billary as well and I'm also mining it. Of course, the majority of my crypto portfolio is still in Bitcoin. What are you guys holding on to?

my main investment in crypto currency markets has always been majority on bitcoin and less on altcoins.
i have never invested in any ico, ipo until now but i am looking for a good one to invest in but could not yet find.
as for coins i had ETH which i sold and not looking back now, because i am happy with the profit.
for next looking at lisk

Honestly I've been thinking about small (like .001-.01 worth) amounts of every altcoin listed on Yobit. I'd imagine most would lose value and diminish to 0, but that's a small price to pay for the coin that shoots up 1000% or higher once every blue moon. Look at 007 right now, for example. Pumped from 550 satoshis to over .01 BTC in one night. Even if you miss the peak, and let's say you only were to sell your 007 at .001 (which is a lower price than the current buy orders) you are still looking at a payoff of over .18 BTC for every .001 initially invested.

As an experiment I did that yesterday after reading your post. I bought into 250 different coins that are in the middle volume-wise for a small amount (0.002) each. We'll see.

Back in 2013, when there were only about 13 alts, lots of investors did this. And I think all of the alts got pumped in the great pump of early 2014 (bitcoin had reached $1000 and every single alt rose as well).

What I don't know is if they took profits or held on thinking they would all go even higher.

I have a few thousand HYPER and GoldPieces, a tiny amount of SWIFT, DGB and Xcoin, and a few million HTML5coin.  Just holding atm, I've been too impatient in the past and lost more than I've gained by doing so!  (If anyone ever breaks through the HTML5coin sell wall I could be doing all right!)
