They *could* verify a forged block allowing various addresses to double-spend coins.

Once the block is verified by their own pool (more than 50% verified it, so it MUST be legit, right?) then they have just "printed money".

They can repeat that as often as they'd like and there's very little anyone can do, other than drop out of their pool so they drop below 50% of the hashing power of the network, and can no longer forge blocks.

This is the major weakness in Bitcoin creation.

The hell...there's like only 4 pools left on the pie chart other than Deepbit. Is everyone dying or something?

No, lack of a slice on the pie chart doesn't mean the pool is down. Usually it's just the front end.

The fees have not been lowered.  He raised them back up on 6-4.  IT was due to the outage that he had.  Hes back to his normal fees at deepbit.

Ah, didn't notice, ty

I really do not get why he lowered the fees to 0/7%.  I run a backup phoenix at a lower priority because BTCGuild is under load and i don't like the stress on my card.  But i am even debating finding another backup pool than deepbit because he lowered the rates..

He lowered the rates because deepbit went out to a ddos...and that was just for a few days. The fees are back up now, and yet more people join.

Where's BTCmine Huh

The website is down, but I think you can still mine on it (I am), however there are issues with the server, just like btcguild. Better than pointing it back to deepbit...There's no where else to runnnn....

why won't someone ddos deepbit ? if it's so scary

What a terrible and unoriginal idea.
Unfortunately, for the sake of the network, we'll have to do this if [Tycho] continues to do nothing. Personally, I suggest that he double the pool's fee. It'd be a win-win for all of us.

I simply don't understand how someone who is making so much money from Bitcoin would ever let the network grow so unhealthy. You don't bite the hand that feeds.
