New ideas will be criticized and then admired.
I think one specific feature that the forum is missing is to automate the banning of a user from posting twice in a row instead of making a single post, there should be a specific time to be able to comment again in cases where no other user has commented yet.

Another feature is that the creator of the post can pin a reply to appear as the first comment on the post as a possible highlight, solution or informative depending on the topic.

If you actually perused my post you would've understood that I meant using "likes" accumulated on posts to translate to merit. I don't see how that will be abused other than the merit system is. Let's not deceive ourselves. No system is without its errors or loopholes. Don't we've people caught in time past abusing the merit system? Has that made the whole merit thing worthless? But of course, it hasn't. Again, I don't propose there should be a limit to how many "likes" a post gets; just the same way there's no limit to how many merits a post gets.

I totally understood what you proposed/suggested, but it seems like you didn't understand what I asked/said. I didn't say anything about how many likes a post can get. I asked about how many posts a user can like, and if there is no limit, then a user can abuse this feature by liking all the posts of their alts or friends or people they are in contact with so that they can grow in ranks since you suggested that likes should then be converted to merits which will eventually affect a user's rank because earning merits is what stops the growth of undeserving members but this system will allow them to bypass that.

Then I said that if there will be a limit on how many posts a user can like, and they will need to earn their right to like posts since it will be directly related to merits, then we already do have a system that basically does the same thing which is the merit system.

So, even if a "Likes" system is implemented, it shouldn't serve as a metric that would affect a user's rank at all, but it can only serve as a complementary system for people to like the posts that they find helpful/constructive/amusing/funny, etc.

So, how do you propose it's implemented? Do users get to like unlimited posts, or will there be a limit just like smerits? If you propose a user can like posts without a limit and then those likes should convert to merits automatically, this will be abused to another level. And, if you propose that there should be a limit on how many posts one can like and they need to earn likes just like merits, I don't see how it will be any different than the merit system that is already present.

I would love to see a "like button" which members who are out of merit or those who don't intentionally want to merit such posts but agree with those comments can click on to show they vibe with such posts. It's like what we've on most SM platforms. Here, that can be gravitated to a certain number of likes a post could get and the likes automatically convert to a merit point for that user.

Even though I believe it's unnecessary because we shouldn't slowly convert this traditional and historical forum into a social media platform, if something like that is implemented, it shouldn't affect a user's rank or anything like that. The likes on your posts should only show how many people like your thoughts and ideas and nothing else.

4. Tag audit feature.

Hello mate!
Can you please explain your idea of "Tag audit feature". How will it work? I mean something relating to feedback system should be handled by humans and not codes
I am interested in this because overtime I have seen some group of DT members unjustly tag and damage account of users, especially lower ranked members. This system could bring justice to them. Please explain how you want this to be implemented.

I just think it would be nice if moderators at least notified us when deleting our threads or gave some sort of an explanation. I doubt we’ll be getting many new features with a new forum in development, but things like moderators at least explaining their decisions or notifying you of actions would be nice. No amount of features can outweigh poor moderation.

I like this, but first, kudos to the management of the forum, they've done well enough over the years. But the management is not perfect, they cannot think everything through always, we can make our suggestions and see if it's doable. However, I don't wish for more on the forum other than:

1. Ability to switch between Light and Dark modes.
2. Auto draft saving function (I mentioned this earlier).
3. Overhaul of the search feature.
4. Tag audit feature.

Maybe not a forum feature but a new rank, like Immortal Rank. If I’m not mistaken, since ranks were introduced here on bitcointalk no new ones have been added or changed. My suggestion to achieve the Immortal Rank, you need 10K merits and 10K activity if you didn't meet this two you can't be Immortal Rank. If you're Immortal Rank, you can use an avatar like the one yahoo62278 currently has, and your signature can be animated like moving text similar to a route runner. LOL
The immortal rank didn't catch my attention and also the 10k merits and 10k activity didn't also catch my attention. What really caught my attention is your suggestion of returning animated signature and avatar for the proposed immortal ranks. It's funny and no wonder you accompanied your suggestions with a laughter.

How will you feel if signatures are made of moving texts. It will be a riot of colours and here will look like the other forum. Theymos, please disregard that suggestion Grin

Not sure if it would be classed as a new feature and I’m not the first person to say it but I’d like to see a new higher rank. I think Legendary member as the highest rank is now outdated.

There are too many basic bitch accounts at Legendary and I think it would be cool to see a new, higher rank to differentiate the elite members from the riff raff.

10,000 Activity is too high, even theymos is 10 years away from that. 4000 Activity would be enough.

If such a rank is created, focus should be more on merits and not on activity.

I see there are recomendations for mobile app for bitcointalk, but I feel that it'll be just unnecessary forum expenditure for creating and managing the mobile app. It may be better if website is coded to be adapted to mobile device (yeah, those userscripts, ain't it), than something like standalone mobile app that'll require constant maintenance (one being constant need to be updated to stay along with new versions of Androids and ios.).

Maybe not a forum feature but a new rank, like Immortal Rank. If I’m not mistaken, since ranks were introduced here on bitcointalk no new ones have been added or changed. I like this idea. With amount of activity and merit required to achieve this rank, it signifies that user has devoted significant amount of time of his life to the forum and deserves the rank.

..and there should be section where immortals of the forum are listed throughout the life of forum.

2025 is just 4 days away from here. What new feature would you like to see on bitcointalk in 2025 ?
Does the forum bitcointalk do rebrand the forum features on every single year?
Rebranding won't be possible in the forum. Everyone has widely accepted the name Bitcointalk. Changing the name might make people lose interest or not see the forum as it was before. Redesigning the UI of the forum is also not going to be possible. This is the best UI that will be easy to navigate, as the forum contains lots of boards, a links system, and a tab system. If you noticed, it hasn't had a mobile version since it was created. However, one or more members have successfully coded some script that has made the mobile version of the forum more friendly and interactive.

Maybe not a forum feature but a new rank, like Immortal Rank. If I’m not mistaken, since ranks were introduced here on bitcointalk no new ones have been added or changed. Haha.. There is actually some sense in what you said. A new rank might be awesome. In the sense that we now see a lot of Legendaries members in the forum. The legendary rank currently looks too casual in the eyes, but introducing a new rank will change the mindset of many, and the top OG's will feel exceptional again.

The forum needs to promote more technical aspects of bitcoin and blockchain given every other board is either a signature campaign, gambling, or gambling-related scams. There should be more guided tutorials and discussions around privacy, private keys, and wallets, and how to secure yourself on the surface web. These aren't features on the forum but rather a change in the community towards a bigger goal.

I should start writing more about privacy and decentralization & tools one could use to make them more private on the internet.

I'd like to see a "Claim Airdrop" feature where theymos decided to be charitable and split up 500 BTC among the forum's most active users, with the airdrop share proportionately related to activity count.

Next year I hope satoshi comes back and just starts sending out BTC like mad to all forum member addresses. Those are my plans for the next two years.
Is this a wish or a want? I don't know why I found this funny; maybe because it's an impossible expectation, or it could also possibly happen this year. Who knows? Theymos can surprise the real old active posters here for real and use it as this year. April forum surprise package

What about having a Contest sub-forum? It could spice things up around here.
I think the service board is what they use for such a thing, although that depends on the contest and what it relates to.

In as much as I know that the likelihood of this happening is to the bare minimum, I think I would like to see this fantasy of yours come true 😁. It would definitely be nice seeing some free Bitcoin here and there in the community but we all know Satoshi ain't coming back anytime soon and theymos for one will certainly not gift out free Bitcoin to users.

Hi man!
The forum is fine, I don't need any more features for now. If I would want to see anything, it will be for theymos to bring back mixers now that Trump is about to become the president.
You are absolutely right because looking at the Bitcointalk forum, I don't really think if there is anything wrong with the way it is right now. However, I think the forum is just okay, but just like as you have said I would also be happy if they bring back mixers in this forum because I would also like to have experience, that is the new features I would love to see in this Bitcointalk forum this 2025.

I don't have expectations for big changes. It's not that new things isn't good. But we didn't had any major changes on Bitcointalk for long time already - probably this forum is one of the most stable things in my life Cheesy.
Mobile friendly forum version would be nice, but in all these years I got used to current version that I'm not sure that I need mobile version that much. But it's not just about me - others need it.
And look, now we  don't see many questions about new forum software. People probably already lost hope that they will see it released any time soon.

I would like to see a total overhaul of the trust system, at least let's start from there, the forum trust system needs an update.
 Expected update in 2025
Trust rating:
. positive trust= permanent.
. Neutral trust= expiration time' set say 90 days or 120 days expiration time.
. Negative trust= permanent .
Can you eleborate how you see it going to work and why it would be better than current system? I understand reasons behind why negative trust may be permanent (though, don't think that would be good idea),bu permanent positive trust, why?

Adding the ability to loop through tasks can be helpful if the feature is added. Like instead of hard coding a table or a list, one can write the code once then using loop the populate the data into the table or list.

This will mean data structure can as well be introduced to make posting lengthy articles easy and less time consuming.

I think it would be interesting to read your opinions about features to add for 2025 rather than you having created the thread and not have posted your own feature wish list. I would like to see no new feature in Bitcointalk as it's working pretty fine at its current state. The only feature that would be helpful for me and for everyone else would be add some kind of ultimate fix for the forum's built in search function. Although, Google search works fine but it would be great to see forum's own search function in a better way.

I personally do not want to see any major changes in bitcointalk. Small changes can be made as per the requirements but on the whole the forum is a great place to read and post. Most of the other forums are crowded with ads or other stuff but when you are on bitcointalk you just stay on what you are interested and never get distracted. That is indeed a success for bitcointalk.

Yes, we share the same opinion and observation. Although the forum is using an old but original version of the software, nevertheless, the interface is clean and very appealing to read and join the discussion because there's no annoyance. I hope it will stay this way; maybe we could add a chat feature for a fun and friendly chat with forum members.

Maybe addition of new merit sources to boost more activity on different boards. Well in my opinion technical changes might not needed as more users like the same format, at least for me.

The design and forum navigation is nice and not necesaary to change to something like a 3D theme newly improved platform.

Giving a roadmap of upcoming changes would be a good thing, I can't remember the last time we saw a real change or new feature added.
bitcointalk treasury address show that the forum has expenses of a few thousand dollars.
The treasury is in millions (about $100M+), and expense is in thousands of dollar.
There's currently about 1250 BTC(+BCH) in reserve.

If you need a reference with details.
Code:
2017
Income: $996,494 + $6257 donations
Expenses - Forum software project: $246,138
Expenses - Mods and others: $261,433
Expenses - Hosting etc: $49,726

2018
Income: $473,247 + $479 donations
Expenses - Forum software project: $272,250
Expenses - Mods and others: $204,547
Expenses - Hosting etc: $43,907

Tax is not included for 2017. Because bitcointalk.org is tax-wise a disregarded entity, it's difficult for me to calculate the tax costs attributable to forum activities. I'll do it some other day.

Themes on profile page or anything that will give customization to our profile since there’s a lot of info out there that is already outdated and useless to the current time like ICQ, AIM, MSN, and YIM.

Maybe adding the link to confirm the wallet address that is Stake in the past to prove ownership in our profile next to wallet address is a good idea to easily determine how to prove ownership of the account.

Lastly, adding mp3 playlist like the one on friendster or any live radio broadcasts available for crypto in general is a cool addition.

I was actually not suggesting major changes. Sometimes small changes can also bring major difference in user experience. Like powerglove has done lot of changes under guidance of theymos and I do not think that it costed a lot to the forum.

The only changes I would like to see on this old software probably next year is mobile interface so someone browsing the forum doesn't have to flip from left to right to read full text on mobile.

I'm not a developer but what does it take to make a website both mobile and desktop friendly?

I agree this is a much needed feature. Using this site on mobile is a headache. And since most of the traffic to any site on the internet is mobile only, the user experience of lot of users is affected here because of this. It should be very convenient to use this forum on mobile and no need to make it horizontal to see complete text.

I agree with this statement. I would spend more time on this forum if it were convenient to do so on a smartphone, but at the moment, reading or writing posts on the bitcointalk using a mobile device only irritates me. It seems to me that in the era of mobile devices (when almost everyone has a smartphone), in which we live, our forum simply must be adapted to these devices. This would be more convenient for both old users and could attract new ones (since not everyone will want / be able to use a laptop or PC).
Although I also agree that the mobile version isn't that convenient, I believe it has already been discussed and I don't recall it being on the to-do list. I don't find it 100% necessary, but the truth is that most people nowadays are using their smartphones a lot more frequently than their computers. Thus, I believe it's something that needs to be implemented sooner or later, nothing fancy is required, just a more smartphone friendly view of the forum. Apart from that, I don't think there's something else missing, I like its simplicity so far, can't think of any other features. The most important ones, such as 2FA has already been implemented a few years ago.

2025 is just 4 days away from here. What new feature would you like to see on bitcointalk in 2025 ?

Does the forum bitcointalk do rebrand the forum features on every single year? Thought it's only when a learned and creative users foresees a formidable cheaters or quality features, make it a proposal and then the forum board of trustees like Theymos and who's is in equivalent position would give it a thoughtful review before it's being implemented.
Or is there usually a new year resolution in conjunction with the forum features yearly?
I'm only being curious because I don't know if I'm missing out some yearly quests on the forum.
Moreover, there had been plenty of fellow users who had made points of some features to be attached and detached in the forum long now and up til now it hadn't been reviewed talk more of being implemented.
Maybe we still have to lean on the wall and watch how it all goes.
No need to rebrand the forum. Adding one or two features for better user experience is not rebranding.
