I see airports (where I live in Europe at least) will offer 15 or 30 mins of free wifi. After that you have to pay for more time. It's only a euro or two, but you have enter your credit card details. I would much rather pay for these kind of (micro-) services using bitcoin - it should be an option.

You just lost
I think airplane ticket already accept bitcoin, check out cheapair.com
ATM is important too , I ever see person who have bitcoin project to install bitcoin ATM in few country, he's offer for free for install and shipping.

I believe there are a couple of places you can buy flights with bitcoin.

Expedia accept them for hotel bookings, but a shame I don't think they take them for flights yet http://techcrunch.com/2014/06/11/expedia-now-accepts-bitcoin-for-your-crypto-vacations/

Touchdown
When I leave a country after holidays, I need to get rid of the local currency. Nice to have a service to buy bitcoin with the change.
^ Yes, this.

Or if heading to a country where I know I might be able to spend some BTC, it would be nice to top up before leaving.

I thought to myself that this would be the best place to engage in currency trading seeing as though so many people will be flying to another country where they probably have to change their currencies. I don't know how something like this would work on a large scale, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts!

I can't see why existing bureau de change kiosks or currency exchange shops at airports cannot accept or deal with bitcoins. I think it might only be a  matter of time before they do to be honest. It would be really exciting to see BTC alongside $ £ € and being to exchange them directly for fiat. I think we'll know we've made it if/when that happens.

Your country may be your worst enemy
A multi-currency exchange office of course, with BTC just another currency. It should work with cash or cards to give users a wide choice of possibles.

I think we will see ATM or rather BTM (Bitcoin Teller Machines) in the future in all key places. Airports will be I suppose one of the first spot for BTM to appear for a larger scale (at least 1 BTM at every major airport).
I already read article about BTM being placec successfully in high urban areas and key positions like near casinos in Las Vegas. And I know that there are couple of great ideas already implemented in those BTMs:

  • Users do not need a bank or ATM card to access their bitcoin at a bitcoin ATM.
  • Traditional ATMs charge fees for withdrawals; bitcoin ATMs only charge fees when users convert bitcoin to U.S. dollars (and vice versa).
  • Multi-factor authentication all but eliminates the risk of fraud.

It would be nice to convert your spare fiat, {Some people take some local fiat, when they travel to a foreign country} to Bitcoin when you leave.

So while you wait at the airport, you dump it into a Bitcoin vending machine, and it adds it to your Bitcoin address. {scanned QR code}

It's always a problem, when you have drawers of spare foreign fiat coins laying around the house.

I can imagine that when bitcoin has gone fully mainstream and is accepted at every store at every country, you don't even need to declare the amount of cash currency that you are bringing in/out from the country's airport. It will be pointless to do that!

BTC ATM will be implemented in some airports in 5-10 years. Yeah, it's convenient for us, bank is low efficient, we need more efficient money - btc.  Cheesy

+1 for the currency exchange idea.  Right now fees are pretty high to exchange one currency for another, bitcoin could help with that.

Airports/Airlines should be accepting bitcoin to pay for excess weight on the luggage.

All in all an airport would make big bucks if they accepted BTC directly because all their passengers would need to use services like currency exchange. So the question is why would an airport accept BTC instead of just keeping the status quo which is making them quite a large amount of money already.

Beyond Imagination
A bitcoin ATM will be convenient, so that you only need your smartphone loaded with bitcoins when you traveling around. But due to the confirmation time, the withdraw might take 10 minutes, should be located where you used to wait for fetching your luggage  (If the ATM gives you cash without confirmation, then you immediately send your coins to another address to do a double spending, you have 50% chance to get it back and reject the ATM transaction) Cheesy

Of course the best thing will be airport accepting bitcoin payment, then you don't need to do any currency conversion
