bluetooth range is limited to a couple of meters at best, in order to reach a single blockchain all the people around the world need to have access to the blockchain which is impossible to do with bluetooth!!

If the Internet is gone we have bigger issues than bitcoin. While the code exists to broadcast transactions over radio, it would be very limited. I suppose you would need to have a ham radio connected to a laptop running a wallet. With few nodes it may be impractical. It mat be that in such a world the blue chip stocks would be bottled water, can goods, and ammunition; not bitcoin.

There's no need for a contingency, bitcoin doesn't even make sense without Internet, but if the Internet stops working that means something really bad happened, bad as in we are all dead because of the giant meteor! Cheesy

We would have much, much bigger problems. The value of BTC if the internet ceased to exist would essentially be nothing, as it is the main means of spending / receiving BTC.

If internet is down, obviously Bitcoin will be in chaos, but am sure developer will surely go for alternative, like intranet but i wonder if it is possible, so more probably they will seek a transmissible frequency to re-establish bitcoin network. Or maybe thru infrared, bluetooth. Somehow I read an article about someone developing a way to trarnsmit bitcoin transaction thru bluetooth. So maybe it is possible to re-establish network using these methods.

It will be a great destruction for bitcoin if internet went wrong, as almost all of the bitcoin processes are dependent on internet, and if it not remained and still after that someone wanted to establish that network then they will have to take the support of banks and and will provide a system like ATM card.

Funny question....if internet goes down, the only contingency you can have is your fiat currency. Bitcoin is completely online based currency. It would evaporate if there is not internet available.

You have to use your fiat currency once the internet is down I guess!!

Should the internet go down, people would simply keep their private keys in a secure place for the time being.

Don't worry about hackers accessing your coins, they also do not have the internet facilities to do that.

I don't think the internet can crash for more than a week... unless of course there is an alien invasion or something of that nature.

If internet will have problems then bitcoin will have problems. Since bitcoin operate online without it the transfer if transaction is a failure. But when internet will go back the bitcoins is still there. But there is only a one in a million chance that it will happen. So there's nothing really to worry about, internet providers cannot afford to lose trillions of dollars due to internet failure.

I think this will not happen and if there is then it is because of natural conditions. I think that if this is the case then bitcoin can never be used and all of the people who use the bitcoin will lose a lot of money they invested in the bitcoin

There is a project about getting the Blockchain up in space with the help of a network of satellites that will act as relays of transactions if the ground Internet gets damaged somehow and some regions are to be out of Internet connection. However Bitcoin is heavily dependent on the Internet so if something unpleasant happens with the global network I think Bitcoin will be pretty much finished.

If "the Internet went wrong" Bitcoin is something u would have to care about last.

Modern infrastructure is dependent on the Internet.

Totally agree with you that not only bitcoin but in todays life their are so many works are their which are mostly depended on internet , why even bank will also come to halt if internet is not their as now 99% of work is done via internet, that is why when ever in some area if internet service is break down then you can see that in that area ATM Machine or bank wont work and their will be a talk hanging that server down, which is due to internet service break down.

Ok, stupid question because the Internet is not going to break. But suppose a global EMP were to take out all of the electricity and electronics in the world, and thus the Internet breaks. My guess is that many Bitcoin will be lost (web wallets, even computer based wallets that are not backed up), however the code of the blockchain would not be lost, and Casascius coins and Titan coins and other physical bitcoins could be bartered (even at a high price) with the understanding that when the Internet does get fixed the first thing that coders would do is restore the blockchain.

I think simple solution could be broadcasting bitcoin transaction via radio signals seems impossible but i have heard some project trying to broadcast like this to make bitcoin transaction from space. Don't have link to that news/article, but i have read it somewhere.

Bitcoin will be way, way down the list of priorities if the internet went tits up. You could write your private keys down and wait for it to come back to life but you'll probably be starving and the personal bitch of a bodybuilder wearing antlers who lives in the desert by then.
