When a free-market is employed history has shown us that prosperity rises. It's the exchange of goods that leads to prosperity. It's an incentive to do less physical labor. Ultimately should a free-market exist without any kinds of interventions. I would argue that physical labor will become highly reduced.

If Bitcoin is like reverting back to digital gold, then perhaps the next thing will be a digital version of trading a fish for two apples.

I'll trade you some fish paste for a jar of your apple sauce, and we can use our 3D printers to print out fish sticks and apple slices.
I'll trade you some carbon and nitrogen for your sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen, and we can both print out whatever we want. Wink

I'll trade you unlimited rights to hydrogen, relatively nearby. I accept anything in return...

Energy is technically a commodity. It has a practical use outside of just as a medium of trade. We need it for stuff. Lots and lots of stuff. So although energy supply will increase, energy demand will also exponentially increase. Perhaps even outpacing supply. New technologies, ever multiplying population of humanity, etc. The only kink in that idea is if someone manages to find a way to harness the theoretical Zero Point energy. Then other means of exchange will rise in popularity.

The problem with energy is that it's plentiful, and we get better and better at creating it. A currency should be scarce afaik. Interesting thoughts anyway.

Note that the issue with energy is actually extracting it, and that the easier it gets, the more I guess "futuristic" our economy becomes. We pay way less energy to get food and high-tech gadgets now than we did 100 years ago. Once we have enormous amounts of plentiful energy compared to what we have now, we'll no doubt have some technologies and quality of life we can't even dream of right now, but we will still have energy scarcity to "pay" for those incredible things we'll have. (e.g. you're currently not paying for energy to transport stuff between planets, because it's stupid-expensive. In the future, despite millions of watts of energy being possibly cheap, you would still need to spend billions of it to transport stuff across space).

There is no need for scarcity. If there is plentiful amount of energy, there is sufficient amount of everything else.  And really energy will be scarce and have value for long time, quantities will just change.

Energy is something which you can gain anything with.

No, energy is pretty plentiful. And we do keep getting better at collecting it. But it's still a scarce resource, and one fairly ideally suited to use as a currency.

you're thinking of 'energy of today'.

Unless of course you have an insight into what types of energy will be used in the near/far future and with that insight you already know what planets and asteroid bodies will contain such energy, and that you know of the locations these planetoids and asteroids (and probably stars) and that they'll contain such energy sources in plentiful supply.

I'm going to guess that you don't actually know this stuff.

My thoughts is also with energy at the 'top of the food chain', but that a huge mixture of different currencies will exist underneath this.

What will come after fucking capitalism ?
Nothing. Because capitalism is human nature. It is the natural default, like sex, eating, breathing, and sleeping. If you want to eliminate capitalism, then you'll have to eliminate society altogether. Good luck with that.

Huh How much they pay you to say that?
I wish they'd pay me to say it. I'd capitalize on that so fast, you don't even know. Sad

I hereby give you one Al Gore created internets, use it wisely, for they are quite rare.
Thank you. I shall put a string through it and wear it proudly.

If you mean what we currently have, I for one hope that capitalism comes after that.
