Is it okay to leave your coins in exchanges during the fork OR to transfer it on your wallet?

i think its fine to leave our coins in exchanges as long as we can keep secure our account with 2fa and only us that can accessed. but i think if you can transfer it on your wallet then it will be safety because only you that will know the amount and only you that can manage your own coins. i leave my bitcoin in poloniex, bittrex and other exchanges until now and i am not too worried about the fork and i think it will be safe in that site.

What hardfork do you mean? ETH or bitcoin. Bitcoin hardfork will be in the near time. Many suggestions say that we should hold the coin in the wallet that we own the private key. If not we will lost our BTC. Some exchangers that are supporter of btc gold will decline withdrawal of bitcoin. I think you should withdraw the bitcoin from those exchangers and wallets.

its hard to say, one thing i can insure that all exchange distribute bch to users when bitcoin hardfork on August, but few exchanges give users GAS which is something relatied to NEO except Binance, so i think we shoud choose exchange carefully

Most exchanges will send you new tokens after hardfork. But there is a problem. When? Some of the in the few days after, some in the weeks. Do you want to wait so long? There can be pumps while you are waiting for your coins.

How does hard fork effect altcoins?? I don't think leaving ALt on exchanges changes anything, but leaving coins involved in fork(BTC/ETH) may be a little risky unless the exchange has assured that it will support the fork. Make sure to enquire your exchanges by mailing them if they support the fork ang provide you with the extra coin.

The hard fork only affect BTC, the only thing is that BTC deposit and withdrawal might stop during the fork.

There shouldn’t be any issues with altcoins.

I don't see nay threat against ALt because it does not affect them. The fork is about bitcoin and there are advantages of leaving it on theexchnage sites for those ones who will credit you according to their statement but make sure they are reputable ones. This will ensure that there is real time conversion to whatever currency you wish in a case you don't want to hold rather than keeping in an offline wallet that you have to start looking for procedures to convert and the right provider to use.

Technically you must not leave your cryptocurrency in exchanges not unless you are actively trade it. Even without fork it is not good to leave it there. If you don'control the key it is not yours.

If you have them on a trusted exchange there is no issue leaving the altcoins there. It is more advisable to have control of your btc private key however during the fork.

Check first your altcoin exchange if they have a strong implementation and security for the upcoming hard fork this November, stay tuned and keep updated for the announcements and instruction of the exchanges and other coinbase app and website i know they will do that before, during and after the fork specially for the bitcoin users, if you want to play safe move and secure your altcoins and bitcoin to a safest cold storage wallet or your preferred wallet before the fork.

Is it okay to leave your coins in exchanges during the fork OR to transfer it on your wallet?
based on the title you created, the altcoin willn't affect anything when bitcoin fork.
altcoin is not bitcoin, it is like you ask "if his car is being repaired what will happen to my car?"
No, it's like he is asking if his car is getting repaired then what's gonna happen with my bike.
There is no risk of keeping the altcoins on the exchange as long as the exchange is reputable and has a good support.
BTC will be undergoing the fork and it might be risky if your BTC is on the exchange. Also, if the exchange is supporting the fork and taking the security measures then there would be no risk in keeping the BTC on the exchange as what happened on the last BTC fork. All my coins were on bittrex as I knew it is supporting the fork. Everything went smooth at that time but there is no word from their end this time either.

As long as there is no relationship about my portfolio with the fork but that will be a good idea. You can see about the bitcoin hardfork and the exchange wallet gets maintenance during the time of the forked itself.

The upcoming fork will or might only affect bitcoins in exchanges. You can still keep your altcoins in the exchange you are using. But keep in mind to not keep your coins in any exchange for a long time as any exchange can still be hacked.

1.Exchangers may give you forked alt and they also may not.Up to exchanger (but probably yes).
2.Wallet is guaranteed gain of forked coin.

It depends...

which coin are you talking about leaving on exchanges?

if its bitcoin most exchanges are not out in the open about offering the forked coins to users storing bitcoin in the exchanges. iirc quite a few denied its users bitcoin cash during the last fork
so you have to take a guess here if any exchange will give you your forked bitcoin gold or whatever if you leave the coins on the exchange before the fork

if youre talking about altcoins they arent troubled in any way by the fork. except for the price ofcourse it may take a swing one way or another.

There is nothing wrong in keeping your alternative coins in the exchange during the bitcoin and Ethereum fork and you could trade as normal ,but when it comes to bitcoin and if you are looking to take advantage of the split in the network then you have to move your bitcoins to your own wallet, other than that the exchanges work as usual.

For now there is no clear statement of what will happen during the fork, but there some some suggestion that if you have fund in exchange much better to transfer it into your wallet specially for bitcoin, but for me there is a no problem on keeping your altcoin in exchange because dev of trusted exchange will launch the security of all fund of investors before and during the fork to continue their good services.
And for now do not make any panic selling for your coins, and if your coin already generate income at the current value must sell it and transfer to your trusted wallet.

Wait for an official press release by the exchange you use and see if you agree with their future terms/vision. If you do, just keep it there. And if you don't, withdraw your coins to a private wallet or transfer them another exchange that suits you better.
