I am really expecting that bitcoin will soon announce that they have received confirmation by several states and countries in the world accepting them as a formal currency. I have always had this feeling that the rate at which the bitcoin is gaining popularity will have to force very many countries to accept it since it has begun having a great effect on the economy of the countries taking part in the whole process of bitcoin trading. Wait for a great surprise coming on your way soon than expected.

I'm looking for something to look forward to.  What do you feel will be the next big announcement for Bitcoin in the next month?

Next month I don't know, I think nothing. the biggest big impact is halving time, and there are will be more drama coming.

Your country may be your worst enemy
An announcement? There are no BTC announcements. Those come from centralized organizations.

I wish the community will make the news by finding a solution to the scalability problem which will get more and more acute.
I also wish more and more brick and mortar stores will accept BTC.
The only sure thing is the halving, but there won't be any announcement.

I feel, the next announcement in the bitcoin market would be more countries encouraging it and making it legal.Which will give rise to bitcoin start ups and we will have a wave of new bitcoin based products/services in the market.

Maybe that Satoshi Nakomoto is dead? Who knows? It looks like we've gotten over this Craig Wright :3

I honestly think that maybe the next one would be the big bitcoin fork we've been waiting for. Faster tx times, please! Cheesy Anyone else looking towards a change to a new BIP?

Or maybe a country decides it should make bitcoin its official currency. Or at least recognises it officially, and even encourages it.

I won't happen next month, but I am definitely waiting for the moment Wall Street is making it possible to trade Bitcoin like you can do with stocks. That would be an insane announcement. It will most likely take some years before it's possible. I have patience. Smiley
You mean like buying and selling it on an exchange?  We already have that.  Buying bitcoin is better than buying something that represents bitcoin and I don't think Wall Street is going to think up something better.

most public exchanges(coinbase, bitfinex, bitstamp) are consumer level exchanges.. where any deposits over $10,000 get flagged, delayed and questioned. and most regular users of those exchanges are holders of sub 100 bitcoins. most of the time sub 5btc..

but the winklevi ETF would be on much a bigger scale..
firstly brokers will be buying bitcoins in bundles of 2000 coins. (far bigger than consumer exchanges allow). and with wall street regulations and insurance. we will see investors throwing millions of dollars at the ETF, not thousands at consumer level exchanges.

It's exactly how franky1 is saying it. I was not talking about the current incompetent Bitcoin exchanges. There has to be a professional exchange or at least a way for real investors to step into Bitcoin with their millions in a secure manner. Current exchanges will shit in their pants when some one deposits +$1 million. That's why we need Wall Street level exchanges, where they can safely step into Bitcoin with large numbers of fiat.

I support this movement.  The issue is that no one owns BTC and there would be no reason to trade it like that on wall street.  You would need some company that wants to pay the fees to get BTC traded as a stock.  You can not get it traded as a currency because there are no governments that are treating it as a currency.  The US government sees Bitcoin as an asset and not a currency.  I would like to see the wall street move, but I do not see that happening in the near future.

I don't know what the big one will be, but these ones we will see again:

  • Banks think blockchain technology is future, not bitcoin
  • Chinese government bans bitcoin for the 500th time, bitcoin price rises
  • Interview with some guy

haha, love this response

The Winklevii ETF seems to have become very peaceful. I guess there's not much point in hyping it unless there's some actual forward progress.

My main prediction for 2016 is - Bitcoin On Ice.

Once it goes over $500, it s gonna hit the news again. 500 mark is a pretty big psychological barrier.

the bitcoin price has already been on $500 and has also been on several news channels. i don't think it will happen again when we reach $500. i think the $600 level will be more interesting coverage as it is a new high.

Yes even if bitcoin reaches $500 may be next year it won't be the talk of the town because already it has been already predicted that BTC will reach $500 but yes as you said if it's value goes much higher than the prediction then surely it will be in news and all again

the increase of the block limit maybe? with whatever way they choose to do it, i don't care much about that, the important thing is that they find a way to increase it, which would suit everyone needs
Core is not planning to increase the blocksize anytime soon, therefore I think that an industry or user led fork will be the next big announcement we should all be looking for. I do not accept waiting for Core and accepting whatever they choose, the market wants the blocksize to be increased, so the blocksize will be increased. Bitcoin is not ruled by a small centralized group of technocrats, it is ruled by the market and the economic majority. The original vision of Satoshi will prevail even if Core is presently active in attempting to undermine it, for anyone that thinks that Bitcoin is not ruled by the market I suspect they will soon be facing a rude awakening.

then i dunno what they are waiting for, 2MB is not overkill they can do it right now, it's the best and simple solution, to extend the breath of the network a bit, until a better solution will kick in

Just speculating, but a killer app that allowed users to earn some BTC and buy from their phone will be a great announcement.

Something like you view some ads or test some apps and your balance increases (which can be balance incorporated directly on an in-app wallet). Then the app also has a shop for apps or other things in BTC that are spendable directly from the same app.

Will be huge for adoption, and think it is doable.

I think the next big bitcoin news announcement will be the increase of block chain size. Either 2MB or 4MB will increase the price a lot.
