For long term investment both coins are good though it's still speculative and you need long patience.

The progress still moving, slight rise and fall same with how bitcoin and ETH does, it's always good to sort everything
when you are planning to invest, both long and short depends from how the team are working with their projects.

Yes I think new coins are beginning to perform lately and that is encouraging enough to hodl them. Example with cartesi. Cartesi since after first distribution to last distribution has been on the high. It has hit $0.1 and now done a little retracement. I do believe it can be good for a longtime.

I like both stellar and ripple as you have posted. But my major portfolio consists of btc and ethereum.
Among tokens i like power ledger, utrust, crypterium and change.
I am sure with next bull run all my holdings will moon.

XLM and Ripple are good options.
But the opinion varies from person to person.
If you ask me about my favourite crypto, then i will say none is my favourite.
The coin which gives me profit is my favourite at that particular point of time tbh.
But i choose the coin whose demand is more, as the price of that coin will be rising due to less supply of the coin.
And it's also good to take decisions and make favourites of our own.
It is important as if we somehow fall into loss, then we cannot blame others.
Nevertheless let's hope for the best.
Let's all make huge profits.
