For long term holding - of course Ethereum, for short term and trading - Ripple. I think XRP will loose its cost in long term distance.

I would agree ETH is a good asset to invest in as it's recently been oversold and still hasn't recouped much of it's former value

XRP short perhaps not as the value is stable and has simply priced in the latest developments including the upcoming XRapid platform

Ripple just flipped Ethereum for the first time since December 2017.

Absolutely insane market. This didn't seem to last long as ETH quickly gained momentum back to the 2nd place on the coinmarketcap .

At the point any smart trader will place a reasonable bet on the prices of these two rivals (long or short).

And gong long or Short on these two rivals will be perfect on exchanges like www.bbod.io  idex.market , etherdelta.com
Coins are not rivals to each other and lead very different tactics and strategies. But briefly, the ether is only a hold, and a Ripple for day trading.

In regards to the question, it's not hard to see that XRP is overvalued and ETH is undervalued. I'm not trying to short XRP tho. Last time I tried to short it's bull phase I lost a ton of money.

So many people have been loosing a lot on ripple too. Ripple is focus to create such a automation system to be used by the bankers an ripple's oriented for money and no more. They are never giving any contribution to the crypto. Just a greedy company. Ethereum is still undervalued consider from its usefulness compared with ripple./

Currently ETH and XRP are fighting each other to compete for second place. I think this is normal because I know that the current value of some altcoins is quite low. It can increase to 200% at the right time it's needed to do it. They always keep a separate fund to pump the price of coin, that's what I know.

These are two rivals now for the second place for the whole crypto market cap.

2 billion dollar allowance isn't too big now for both of this but as long as ETH will lead then XRP won't have any way to replace it again. With the pump for XRP, I think another news would let it pump.

I will place a long bet on ethereum than ripple,  ethereum still has a long way to go there's more room for it to grow more than  its previous all time high,  as for ripple I don't see it growing up to $5 yet
That might be true, however, XRP (Ripple is the network) is centralised, so its growth is already a matter of when—not if—as banks are getting behind its network for their financial infrastructure. At the end of the day, ETH is still a cryptocurrency, it will grow if it stays practical and useful.

ETH is slowly falling but quite undeservedly so while ripple is enjoying a completely undeserved pump. In time people will realize ETH to be the far superior of the two and the best at offering what it does whereas they'll see XRP to be the centralized fraud that it is.

Both coins will sure stay in the Top Ten of crypto market. The price of ethereum will increase soon, but the price of Ripple too. So sometimes we will see Ripple on the second place, and sometimes Ethereum.

XRP is not decentralized and looks like pump&dump coins. ETH is really decentralized because POW and has good developers headed by Vitalik Buterin. I beleive Ethereum is cheap now because they are solving scalability problems and unlimited supply in Etherium 2.0.
Banks don't need XRP coin so price is manipulated but banks will use Ripple, Ripple don't need XRP so it's price is overvalued.

Which of the two tokens would you suggest has better future?

I agree. Ripple is not decentralized and will be a prime target for such pump and dumps. Having pumped near 200% in under a week it's due for a large correction unless the whole market can continue to move upwards. i suspect that won't be the case and it will slow and with that XRP will fall back to around 30 cents. Eth on the other hand is still at a relatively low price and even if it falls I don't see it bottoming out much lower than $150.

XRP came top  2 on coinmarket cap not for so long this time.. I'd probably investing more in ETH rather than XRP and we know that ETH reached 1300 USD as its ath

Sounds like a great idea.. but i think it's cooler to trade the pair ETH/XRP against each other... any suggestions on the best platform to go long or short on this. Tongue

Depends on what you mean by "better future". If you're talking about adoption, then Ripple could beat ETH in that regard sonner than we thought since Ripple's Xrapid platform could be adopted by the banks around the world for cross-border payments. But if you're talking about prices as in which one can give a better ROI in the short-term or long-term, I'd go with both, that way I won't miss out profits from either.

These two coins aren't rivals. They are entirely different projects, with entire different aims and entirely different markets. Literally the only thing they are competing for is the 2nd place in terms of market cap, which only matters to newbies that don't understand either A) the fact these are entirely different projects, or B) market cap is a very over-valued and over-hyped statistic.
