Anyone could design it immediately, if they want to make keyboards with this symbol at least for desktop PCs, the important thing is that even if such a symbol does not appear on the hardware, people should have your initiative and start to think and demand I want a keyboard with the symbol BTC  Cool

Although for now: ₿ (Unicode: U + 20BF)

Adding the Bitcoin symbol to the keyboard will scream "ADOPTION". The question is where to put the key? I would suggest they replace the $ with the bitcoin symbol... just kidding. However, it gotta go somewhere, what do you think?
Depends and would vary if manufacturers would consider on putting it out not only with KB but also in the command itself on which it could print out that Bitcoin Logo.
We arent still into that certain state of adoption for such add up but who knows if we would able to see this stuff anytime soon.

For now lets not put up some hopes into it but it would be good if ever it would be applied.

It might take a while, but for now we just have to stick with ASCII codes and alt codes if ever it is implemented. Bitcoin is only starting to hit the mainstream, and I don't think keyboard manufacturers are ready to implement a dedicated BTC key just yet. It might take a few good years before this starts to be a trend. It will start on customized keyboards, until such time that it will branch out on main keyboards as well.

I do agre with you here. I don't know if there are manufacturers that are already thinking about this. Fo now, just use codes to insert the BTC symbol in your works. Maybe if btc is still here for the next 10 years, there's a possibility that we may see this symbol in our computers. But for phone apps, we may see it soon. Remember, up until now the currency that made it to the general keyboard layout is $. But some dedicated keyboards also have this £ or €.

Were in particular do you want this to take place is it in the phone's or laptops keyboards, the symbols of bitcoin can't represent the symbols of dollars besides bitcoin is fresher it did not stay awhile, we can quote the symbol or design it by ourselves the way usually use since 11 years now

Outside of some sort of specialist keyboard then it's probably going to be decades, if Bitcoin survives that time and possibly becomes an official currency in other places, before such a thing would happen. Outside of maybe El Salvador there simply is no need for it to be on a keyboard and the design is already rather optimized to make best use of limited space. One other major challenge and the first step to such a thing would require getting the Bitcoin symbol added to every single major font so it would be readily accessible whenever needed, I don't think it is integrated into many font sets at all - also, why just Bitcoin? There are many other upcoming coins that may deserve it too.

I hope that there's one for the phone too, it feels like it's a really good addition if you think about it, this is a good way to promote and inject the symbol of bitcoin in the minds of people without them knowing about it.

Not today but in the future, The bitcoin key can be added to the keyboard. I think the BTC key should be placed near the window Logo key.
AS the number of bitcoin users will increase in the world and legal issues will be solved. it will be possible that BTC key could be added to the keyboard. It is also possible that in the future Microsoft will adopt a Bitcoin affiliate, agree to work with the bitcoin team. Then there be a great change in its value and credibility.

I don't see it coming anytime soon. Even the euro(€) and the peso(₱) doesn't exist on your keyboard after decades and decades of existing and with high levels of adoption. Why do you think they would immediately add a bitcoin symbol as a standard on keyboards?

But yea, like jackg said, it's likely to indirectly get into keyboards through emojis.

I do agree with this logic and main reason for bitcoin symbol not coming soon is opposition of government along with centralized bodies. IMO government bodies will never allow this to happen, since they controlled the real world environment. There is no way to stop decentralized bitcoin though. Also standard keyboard is too short to fit all our desires ( I like to see ethereum symbol).

Why would anyone add Bitcoin symbol to keyboard if Bitcoin is not widely used? The dollar symbol is there because nearly every person in the world that uses computers also deals with dollars on some basis. Bitcoin doesn't have even a 0.0001% of dollar's adoption. The only way I see it happening is if someone makes a keyboard specifically for Bitcoin fans.
First we need to see it on virtual keyboards. It sounds funny but I am serious with it guys. Because we must start from something which has less pressure from government and legal issues.

Virtual keyboard is something like that. Free from legal issues and shows that we have increasing adoption. I think we will see it after next more 3 to 6 halvings. We will see Bitcoin becomes something really legendary in our society. A kind of most attractively safe-haven assets and people will mention about it more commonly. The adoption now is very small and we need to have much bigger one.

Bitcoin symbol is already added to some iOS and Android digital keyboards, but you can create your own version for desktop keyboards using shortcuts.
I know some software programs that can reprogram or remap your keyboard keys on base level and replace it with anything you want including bitcoin symbol shortcut.
To make it even better you can print your own Bitcoin transparent sticker, or order custom keycap with bitcoin symbol and I would replace it with key that I don't use often, maybe ESC.
I didn't saw anyone making this DIY project, but it would be interesting to make one if I found some free time.

Ae man whats this. It does not work for the mac. May be it does not support in the forum layout. Thats the gibberish thing that got typed after using your shortcuts.
Well, I don't think we really need any key on the board to type the bitcoin symbol because its known to everyone by its work, nature, and the way it is screaming out over the trading market.
The dominance is crazy one and I really do not think a simple shortcut would make lot of difference. Adoption is when peeps will by themselves start using it from phone to phone payment, merchandise processing, online shopping etc. Thats the adoption. Not just a little button. Lolz.
I still cant type it using those shortcut:
™∫ƒº

 Huh

The idea is really good, our physical keyboard has a "$" sign or "€" sign, so why not "₿" sign?
Those short-cut code is not working in windows OS too. I've tried multiple times on various websites but nothing happened.
When I input those keywords to Microsoft word documents the final output was: ʿʿʿ
I can't figure out this symbol,  Cheesy
Most probably those Unicode shortcuts will work for a specific keyboard.

I don't think it would take just 1-2 years, I do think it would still take a lot of time for the Bitcoin symbol to be added to the keyboard, since this is something which is governed by highly centralized companies and them having such open thoughts might be a delusion.

You can't even find bitcoins in emojis tho. But another thing I got to know from google apparently :
Quote
The Bitcoin sign is part of Unicode 10.0 (released June 2017) with code point U+20BF (₿). As of June 2017, font support for the Bitcoin sign is in macOS Sierra, iOS, Android O beta, Windows 10 Creators Update and several Linux releases

/Taken from google/
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin_symbol#:~:text=The%20Bitcoin%20sign%20is%20part,Update%20and%20several%20Linux%20releases.

Other than that I tried finding how to get it on your keyboard as well and apparently if you are using Microsoft word then you can very easily do that :

Quote
Hold the alt key and type 8383 using numeric keypad to type Bitcoin sign ₿. Remember to enable number lock key when using numeric pad. Type 20BF and press alt + x keys to convert the code into ₿ sign. This method works in Microsoft Word and you can use regular keyboard keys

/Taken from google/

That means that just few updates and it should be out in the market against dollars but the companies doesn't seem like they wanna do it. But we still have other ways to use it therefore not a big deal.

Does it matter as a product form of certain brands that are already affiliated with adopting Bitcoin? Microsoft can't come to terms with Bitcoin, it doesn't really matter. Because what we want is not adoption that is only of symbolic value, let unimportant symbols fill your computer keyboard or mobile screen. Because the existence of a symbol does not mean that it is an adoption that has a good impact. We prefer to draw BTC in the room in large sizes.

I don't request loans~
It doesn't need to be added to the keyboard exactly? Even local currencies don't have its own symbol on the keyboard. Maybe when it has the same level of authority as the $? Though honestly with it being decentralized, I highly doubt it would only take that, it'd probably need a lot more. Undisputed at that level I supppose?

Adding the Bitcoin symbol to the keyboard will scream "ADOPTION".
Wouldn't you think that at that point it's screaming that it's already been adopted instead? Being on the Keyboard as its own logo would mean that it has a very solid reputation overall on the global level. Much so that there's no need to introduce it to most people, they'd already know it.

It is not hard to build it. We have Bitcoin symbol on our forum BTC, on Twitter and I believe we will see its apperance on more platforms.

Keyboards, it will when Bitcoin becomes legal tender globally. For now, companies have to follow regulations and if Bitcoin is not legal tender, it is not smart to build up keyboard with Bitcoin symbol. It will be struggled by laws and companies don't want to produce such products that they can not sell massively.
